What are some meaningful ways to memorialize a beloved deceased pet?
I have my favorite photos on the wall. Of my living and past dogs. I keep some of the meaningful objects (collar, blanket) for prosterity. And, most importantly, I write about them often. I try to write about the meaningful aspects of their lives: how we found them at the shelter, how they made our lives better, an odd experience that happened when one of my pets passed, what it meant after they passed, why adopting older unattractive dogs is a nice thing to do. That kind of thing. Passing on their legacy in a way that may touch another human is a great way to memorialize a pet. It sort of "pays it forward" in a way.Update: I forgot about something that happened, that relates to this thread. A rare, deadly disease took the life of my dog a couple years ago. When fighting it, I spoke with an acquaintance whose dog also fought that same disease. The dogs name is Tigger, so I kept telling my dog Mikey about how Tigger fought the disease and won. Mikey dog lost his battle. Less than a week later, my inbox held a notification about a dog who needed a home. I saw this shy, nervous looking dog with the same look in her eye as the dog I just lost. She touched my heart by her picture and description. Then I looked at her name. Tigger.We emailed about her, set up a meeting with her foster, and she popped into our lives permanently a couple days later.So in a way, adopting Tigger was a way of memorializing Mikey. My head said her timing was wrong (too early), my heart (and Mikey) said the timing was perfect. They were both shy dogs who needed an extra hand in becoming comfortable in life. And I think the name sort of sealed it.Yeah, and here I am sharing the legacy and memorializing Mikey. This is one way to do it! :)
