Where Can I Learn How To Direct Music Video

How can you direct a music video for a famous artist?

It really depends on the size of the artist. Are they on a label -- is it a major label artist or a big indie label?

If they are on a label the steps to get to them is harder for sure. Traditionally, the labels have a "Music Video Commissioner" who is in charge of production for the artist. So if they are on a label you will want to find out who the A&R Rep, Publicist or the Music Video Comm. is. and make sure to have a treatment and some sort of demo reel ready to go. -- I suggest writing treatments to songs of your favorite artist or just ones you hear on the radio it will really help. Make sure to include copyright info on the treatment too.

If they are not on a major or big indie label it will be much easier. You can typically reach out through social media and tell them what you want to do and explain that you have a great treatment and would love to talk -- send the message privately if you can. If no response, most touring bands will have a publicity or management contact that you can contact too.

I would really suggest working with a local band, learning the ropes and building a small music video demo-reel. Shooting music videos is very different then shooting commercials or films and you have to know what your doing especially to convey a story in that short time.

To learn more I wrote an article a few years back. The technology may be outdated but the concepts and techniques are still the same. You can find the article here: http://electricheadonline.com/blog/music-video-production-for-the-indie-artist/

Hope this helps and good luck!

How can I learn to direct like a band director?

Like people have already said, ask your director and many other directors that are in your school district (middle school, ect.). Also, there's a TON of stuff on YouTube. There's nothing wrong with getting a head start but I would start with learning other instruments, clefs, theory, and things like that before jumping into conducting; get the harder stuff out of the way first. Conducting is something that's perfected over the years so get the main things done first. Good Luck! =]

What does the apple mean in the music video of Mr. Brightside by The Killers?

I take it as everything having to do with sin. I despise religion but I think it's a reference to the forbidden fruit in the garden of eden. But not a direct reference just a symbol of all things bad.
