Underwater breathing (through a straw)?
The pressure due to the air is the pressure you experience every time you take a breath. The few inches more due to the length of the straw makes no difference, it is 1 atmosphere of pressure. If you can breath through a straw sitting in your room, you can do that submerged in a few feet of water. Note that you would need a thick straw and would have to breath slowly and carefully. However, as you get deeper the pressure of the water will make it more and more difficult to breath. At 1 meter, the water pressure is about 10 kPa. 1 atm is about 100 kPa, so the water pressure is small. But at 10 meters, the water pressure is about 100 kPa, same as atmospheric pressure, which means your lungs have to exhort twice the force to expand.

Why do Snipers hold there breath?
it generally just has to do with decreasing the movement in your body which adrenaline could be a factor in that. If your breathing then obviously the gun is going to be moving because you are moving. Snipers are generally trained to hold their breath, exhale and shoot or hold their breath, exhale, then take half a breath and shoot. These techniques make the shot more accurate if you don't have a place to rest the rifle properly.
Don't you hate fake movie fights?
i agree somewhat. movies used to work to make fights look a little more realistic. as a result, the fights had more of an emotional impact. you could almost feel the punch land. look at the fist fight in They Live or the fight between sinatra and the korean in the original Manchurian Candidate. they're out of breath, they hit and they pull and they gouge. there's nothing fancy about them. and, they're not pretty fights, but you get exhausted just watching them because they feel real. nowadays, directors apparently don't know what a real fight feels like so they confuse over-the-top with better. but, the result is that the fights don't really mean anything. now, that being said, fights have never been 100% realistic. even Bruce Lee said his movie fights had nothing to do with reality. but, they weren't as ridiculous as now with people doing things that defy the basics principles of physics. also, sometimes ridiculous fight scenes can be fun if they're done tongue in cheek. for example, Kill Bill doesn't even attempt realism in most of its scenes, but it's aware of how ridiculous the action is. so, that's the fun of it.
