Where Can You Buy Affordable But Good Quality/durable Furniture

How durable is ikea furniture vs Walmart or other adorable furniture?

I m looking to get a dresser (long one - 6 drawers) for my bedroom.
I m buying an ikea bed but I want to know if their dressers are durable or crap. I want to put my tv on it as well as put clothes in it so I need it to be sturdy, but I also need it at an affordable price. I m not looking to spend over 250-300 on a dresser. I realize that quality furniture store (i.e. Ashley, Rooms to Go, etc) furniture is meant to be durable, but I just don t have that kind of money. Please let me know what you think and your personal experiences with buying these types of furniture. Thanks!

Why is IKEA furniture so affordable? Is it good quality?

I sold furniture from 1988–1998 and am back in the field selling high end furniture since 2016. I love Ikea! Mostly it’s their style and affordability. I’m sitting on their sofa now. All things are price relative to the quality and therefore their longevity. My sofa cost $600 and I’ve had it 3 years it’s doing well. The one I want at work will retail for $6100 and we would sell it for $3600… I will pay triple the IKEA price, but it will last me 25–30 years, at which point I will need a smaller one for the retirement home! Ha! I worked in that industry too!!Ikea is great for people on a budget like I was at the time. Now I’m back in the furniture and design field and can afford better-especially with the employee discount. I do love my job and company; it’s great to see people’s vision come together for their home while I renovate mine.I’m buying my bathroom sink vanity there next month; it’s the Godmorgon/Odenvisk in walnut-I can’t find anything that looks like that for the price. It’s guaranteed for ten years. I think that’s great for a $400 vanity. I’m getting a mirror and lighting too. Plus some fun decorating stuff that looks great and is cheap. You don’t have to buy all IKEA, pick and choose what suits your needs and budget. Some things are trending and you may want to switch them out sooner so go cheap if you like. It’s all about what you want your place to look like and how long you want it to last.

Is IKEA furniture made up of fibreboard of good quality?

fiberboard is pretty dense. combined with the platform design of many of their beds it's durable enough for normal use (meaning an adult sleeping on it and not kids jumping on it). their metal beds have a slat roll for support which is also pretty strong. they do say they put their products through durability tests but I am not sure what the warranties are. as others said it's not a lifetime piece, you won't be able to hand it down to your kids (LOL) but it's great looking and good quality for the money.

Is ikea furniture cheap in quality?

Yes and no. I think for the price you get a very high quality piece of furniture... it's like shopping at H&M, you don't expect it to last for more than a couple of years, but it's in style and looks cute!

If you take care of your stuff you can keep it for up to 5 years for most things and be in good shape. If you're looking to make a more long-term investment, then see it just as that - an investment, and spend a little extra cash on something nice.

Otherwise, just be prepared for a loooooooooong day when you go to IKEA. It's fun but very exhausting.

What kind of quality is IKEA furniture?

Ikea is an awesome store. People are able to purchase trendy and contemporary pieces for an inexpensive cost. The downfall? The pieces won't last forever. They are perfect for a dorm room, a young adult, or a married couple just starting out. However, if you want furniture that will last for years, I don't suggest Ikea. They are a perfect place if you want to redecorate your home on a really tight budget but aren't expecting it to last forever. I purchased a corner desk from them a few years back. I had it in storage for a year or two, but have been using it now for about two years. It still stands up; however, the "wood" veneer is peeling and lifting, and even curling. It is cheaper furniture and great for temporary. I wouldn't necessarily purchase a sofa from them, and yes, their furniture is assembly required. It isn't the best quality. However, you should get a few years out of it. Good luck and hope this helps!

Why is rubberwood furniture considered good quality?

Actually, rubberwood is not considered “good quality” in the Western markets - ironically so, because , in fact, it really is!Let me explain. If you plan using rubberwood - or better say, Hevea - in Europe, you wouldn’t sell anything. This happens because of its name and its perceived qualities. “Rubber” suggests flexibility. And this is not something that people associate with furniture, which must be felt as durable. So, the big buying groups of Central Europe - like Germany - have always shunned the buying of rubberwood furniture, preferring instead other wood essences. This has represented a huge problem, especially in South East Asia, which furniture exports towards the Western world have suffered greatly from this fact. One of the things they have done has been to rebrand Rubberwood into Hevea. The other is to use veneer - thin sheets of other more noble wood species applied on the visible parts of furniture, while using a rubberwood core.As others have pointed out, it is strong and nice, and grows rapidly, but is also a bit “dull”. It has no personality. So, it is not very suitable for high-end products which are made to show the patterns of the wood.As you see on the image on top, one of the ways to make it more interesting is like this - by combining several pieces so to form a patterned - and more interesting - panel: this is called “blockwood”, and it is one of the four main “man-made” woods used in the industry. If you are interested in wood use for furniture making, I am giving a deeper explanation here: What are the types of wood used in furniture? That said, rubberwood is a wonderful and inexpensive material which is well suited to production of sturdy and cheap furniture. Its only fault, if it has one, is its name.EDIT: Thank you all for your views!
