Where Could I Start To Get Into Building Bikes

How to start learning how to build a dirtbike/vespa/moped. Where do I start?

I don't want a boring job when I am 16. So i am thinking about working at an auto mechanic and just as a hobby building/repairing bikes. Well my relatives know nothing about mechanics with building or repairing bikes so where do I start? How can I learn? What should I do? I think this will be really fun. if i go buy a broken moped, how much will that cost? what should I look for at (where ever) I find my frame or whatever?

I'm going to build a fixie. Where do I start?

At my co-op, Toledo Bikes, we have build-a-bike classes. It took me about two weeks of steady work to build my first bike, an older model GT 21- speed from the frame up. We had all the used parts and new cables, so I had all I needed to put the bike together in-house. My teachers and buddies Shuan and Erik were there to help me when I got stuck and had in-depth knowledge of all the parts and why they did what they did. That is where I would start: a place that had a knowledgeable staff that you could deal with on a daily basis to get that bike built the right way.  If you live in a major city it should not be hard to find a place like this. If not, hit every bike shop within riding or driving distance and find a bike guy who will put up with all your questions and has the time and patience to take you through the steps of getting this project done. You should not have to build the bike on your own.

Where do i start building my own motorcycle?

How long will it take for me to build stamina?

Much of your challenge is mental, and exercise bikes, treadmills and other indoor fitness gear are part of the problem.Take the exercise bike…you hop on with good intentions and start pedaling. Even if you have something like the TV to distract you, you quickly elevate your heart rate, start breathing hard, and sense “discomfort" from the work you're doing. With nothing interesting to distract you from this mild discomfort, you use the excuse of exhaustion to stop before you're really tired. In fact, you're bored and uncomfortable. Now imagine being on a real bike outside in the world. You pedal along, and maybe encounter a hill. You're working really hard but are determined to get to the top, and you do. Then there's a pretty view, or maybe you see an interesting building, or maybe you get curious and turn down a road to see where it goes. Before long, you realize that it's been an hour and you need to head home, and that takes you an additional half hour. Wow, you rode for 1 1/2 hours. Sure at times (like the hill) you were uncomfortable, but you were able to overcome it because you were mentally entertained enough to put up with it.I've ridden over 100miles in a day more times than I can remember, but can't do more than 30 minutes on an indoor bike before I want to murder someone. My typical outdoor run lasts almost an hour, but I'm lucky to survive past 20 minutes on a treadmill. I can spend all day hiking, but I've never seen the point of walking on a treadmill, so I don't know how long I'd last doing that.Humans were designed to do physical things out in the world. Kids in 3rd world countries hike miles to school each day. The trick to obtaining physical stamina is to integrate your workout into life. Ride your bike to the store or work rather than driving once in a while. Take a long walk to a destination a few miles away (and walk back afterward). Go run someplace more inspiring and beautiful than a crowded gym. Yes you might get wet, dirty, or cold outside sometimes. Who cares?

I want to build a Kawasaki Ninja 500r but I don't know where to start. How do I build it from scratch?

The first thing would be to start a special fund and have a last will and testament drafted because you'll need someone to carry on the work once you die of old age. Then buckle down and get started because it will take you about 75 to 100 years to complete. You might do some research so you can build it to run on whatever type of fuel is going to be being used in 100 years from now so it will actually be usable when completed in the year 2112.

What is the scope of custom bike building in India?

Scope is bright if you are good enough. The Indian economy is booming and people especially in metros and tier 2 and now even tier 3 are ready to splurge money on set of hot wheels beneath their butts.I am from the not so big city of Agra and we have a small Harley group there. Now typically when you mention custom bike people have a chopper cruiser in their mind but do not have the money to spend it on a cruiser like say a Davidson. Right now there is a Royal Enfield craze in our country and the "bullet" is the Indian version of Harley Davidson or I think let us not insult it and only call it "The Bullet".These days people are buying bullets and as they can't afford Harleys are getting them modified even at a steep price and some Indian custom bike makers are doing a pretty good job at it. Bikers also get their legendary RD-350's modified and the more experienced ones do it themselves.Take for example the Rajputana Custom motorcycles. I just bumped into their website and they are really good at what they do so sharing their custom bike pics. Like I said they are also modifying existing Enfields.Image Courtesy: Rajputana Custom Motorcycles Image Courtesy: Rajputana Custom Motorcycles Image Courtesy: Rajputana Custom Motorcycles So there is scope and it is only increasing day by day. I would say if you are going for it then you do not restrict yourself only to make choppers or cruisers but also give a performance upgrade to Indian sports bikes like Pulsar NS, R-15, Apache etc. as there are again ample number of people who have to satisfy their need for speed but simply can't afford a Yamaha R1/R6 or a Honda CB600R or a Kawasaki Ninja 600 and higher CC sports bikes.

I want to start a custom bike business, what should I do first?

Buy one bike , build it as per your own choice flaunt it and sell it,Keep doing this exercise for a while till you get traction for.customers.As other way round is , set up a workshop at your expense( estimated cost would be around 10 lacs) , , look out a space , hire some technicians, pay all monthly expenses , market your skills and get orders. To cover for the salaries and other expenses you would still have to buy a few bikes and get them build at your own, since you can't make them sit idle
