Where Do I Start Reading Deadpool

I would like to start reading Deadpool comics. . .where do I start?

I've seen several pictures online about the superhero named Deadpool. The posts piqued my interest, and I decided to give his comics a try (I am COMPLETELY new to the comic book world). After doing some research, I've decided that I have no idea where / how / or with who to begin (Joe Kelly? Daniel Way). Advice would be appreciated!

I wanna start reading Deadpool comics, should I start reading from the very beginning or what do you recommend?

Deadpool being the character he is, I feel that you can just start from wherever because in Deadpool comics, the plot takes a backseat to the execution, i.e. all the humor and antics that Deadpool comics are known for. So basically, just read what everyone says is good? :)

I'm a fan of Deadpool and would like to read more of his story. Where do I start?

First, understand that Deadpool is actually…Bizarro Deathstroke.Yes, this is true. DC and Marvel have unofficially confirmed it with a laugh. How in the sam hell he got to the Marvel universe is anyone’s guess, but it does involve breaking the 4th wall.Deadpool started off as a joke making fun of Deathstroke, Grendel, Spawn and the edgy 90’s antiheroes. He first shows up New Mutants #98.This guy, who is pretty much just a one-shot middle finger to Spawn and DC from Marvel ends up getting more popular than they planned. And they let people know hes a joke/pun on characters, Deathstroke especially. Marvel confirms this by taking Deathstroke’s name, Slade Wilson, and naming Deadpool WADE WILSON.So, DC loves it, and says: “Okay, well if he’s a doof version of Deathstroke, then let’s just make it canon that he’s Bizarro Deathstroke!” And so it happened in Superman/Batman Annual #1.Deathstroke makes a cameo in Deadpool Kills Deadpool #4.So, he is officially just Bizarro Deathstroke who escaped DC Universe and is now running rampant across Marvel. This is awesome! Then, DC liked it and made him Deathstroke’s Bizarro clone who escaped the DC Universe and somehow got trapped in Marvel’s universe. And there it is, Marvel lets this fly because Deadpool will sometimes admit he’s Deathstroke bizarro. He may hint he’s from Bizarro world too. But it’s so random that you have find it, and whether he’s blunt or clever with it. He’s also like the Joker, you never know which of his memories is fake and which is real.To REALLY enjoy Deadpool and get into him, I’d first start with Deathstroke. Also known as Slade Wilson. Begin with New Teen Titans #2.Then, to understand how the whole Bizarro thing works, and that Bizarros may break the 4th wall, check out Action Comics, Vol 1, 856 and 857If you REALLY like the whole Bizarro craziness, then read the Emperor Joker story line, where Joker and Mxylptlk play havoc with the universes in a chess game, and they even invade the Marvel Universe (unofficially). This whole mess may explain how Deadpool got into the MU.Emperor Joker (Storyline)From there, move on to Superman/Batman Annual 1. To finally see Deadpool. And from here, start with Deadpool’s first appearance in New Mutants #98. Then go on to Deadpool Vol 1, #14.After that, you can read the Weapon X series or just pick up on Deadpool anywhere.

How do I start reading comics?

start with 'Marvel Now', their reboot. Best from Marvel comics are the Daredevil, Spiderman and Avengers issues. Captain America's are pretty average, so is Iron man's. Your question just proves how these awesome marvel movies are bringing audiences to read the comics. Another tip: I read both Marvel and DC and don't get me started on which is better (they're equal) though right now, I'm loving DC's issues. More grounded and well...better. Cheaper as well. You want DC? Start with issue 1 of New 52 Batman, Batman and Robin and Aquaman. Best issues. You really should read the first issues. Like a watching halfway through a movie.

Ultimately, Marvel and DC reboot their universes so they don't get so convoluted every so decade so for Marvel, start with Marvel Now and for DC start with the NEW 52. I don't think you should read any comics that were published before the 2000

What is a good place to start reading Thunderbolts?

Issue 100 was garbage, and Warren Ellis had no part in it. The real place to start would be issue 110, where Warren Ellis begins writing and Mike Deodato Jr. takes over on art. This is where the stories featuring that team of supposedly reformed villains begins in the Thunderbolts series, but they actually first showed up in the pages of Civil War.

As far as the one-shots go, I'd stick with ones written by Christos Gage and illustrated by Ben Oliver, they've been the best so far.

There are eleven issues so far, and the twelfth (and final issue by writer Ellis and artist Deodato) comes out this coming wednesday. The first trade paperback, Faith in Monsters, is already available at most comic shops and book stores, and the second, Caged Angels, should be released reasonably soon.

Where do I start in reading Spawn comics?

Having run for a long time, jumping onto Spawn can be a difficult endeavor. While you can pick up and start reading, it's not uncommon for some threads to go unanswered for 30-50 issues! That's an incredibly long time, but can also be incredible rewarding for those sitting along for the journey.Spawn #1The best place to start to get the full experience, read how Al starts his Journey!.Spawn #185The easiest place to jump on in the middle of the run was when Jim Downing mysteriously woke up after an event. Find out how he takes over the Spawn mantel for several years..Spawn Resurrection #1New team and new direction. The return of Al Simmons, and the start of a brand new era for Spawn.

Both Marvel official Website and Comixology offer online comic books. You can enter either website and check out the submission fees.

As for where to start-

I don't know much about the Hulk or Iron Man, but as far as Spider-Man goes I reccomend you start with Ultimate Spider-Man. I don't like the Ultimate Universe or Spider-Man but Ultimate Spider-Man just won me over. It's the best Ultimate title, period.

Oh... if you don't know what Ultimate titles mean, it's a entire universe of Marvel that started in the year 2000. Basically, it takes the heroes and updates their stories to modern times. Instead of Spidey growing up in the sixties, he grows up in the 2000's. Captain America wakes up in the 2000's and the Avengers and X-Men are formed in the 2000's, etc. It's specifically for new readers... but I personally think most characters come off as jerks in the Ultimate Universe. Except for Spidey. And since it tells you everything from the beginning, you don't need to know anything to understand it.

Deadpool you can read from Cable & Deadpool. It's a 50 issue series that is made of pure awesome. You don't really need any previous knowledge for it. The characters pretty much introduce themselves.

Another hero I can recommend is Thor. Read from his 2007 series written by J. Michael Straczynski. It's so amazing. You don't need any previous knowledge for that, either. The story begins right off with reviving Thor and introducing all of his world's characters. It has a fantasy overtone, though, so if you don't like fantasy, it might not be for you. I do think it's brilliant, though.

How do I start reading Hellboy comics?

If you like hard copies, like I do, go to your shop or book store and get any of the Trade Paperbacks. The last page of each of them (I have Rasputin right here, right now.) has a checklist/reading order with a phone number to order directly from Dark House. They keep the TPB’s in print and your shop can get them for you, as well. The TPB’s collect the mini-series, the Library Editions look like they collect two of those, and the Omnibuses have two of those. I can’t speak for the big boys, but I get the TPB’s and they’re numbered on the spine for easy access. (Thanks, Mike!)
