Which one is better PSU or IES?

Both PSU and IES are high paying and respected jobs. But according to me there are some advantages of IES over PSU job or any other engineering job:IES is purely government services. But PSU is semi-govt where govt ownership is more than 51%. (Nowadays govt is giving more share to private shareholders as many of the PSU are in loss. So they are moving towards privatisation). In IES you will be provided with facilities like house, car, servants etc. But you are not be getting any such facilities in Psu's (at most they can provide you a staff quarter for that house rent will be deducted from your salary). This is misconception that PSU'S salaries are more as compared to IES,they are almost same. (There are only one or two PSU like powergrid which offer CTC around 14 lakh )Since IES is a govt service, pay commission will applicable to it, so regular increment. But in case of PSU,it depends upon them.IES is a GROUP A service and you will be a gazetted officer. Where as in PSU they are not gazetted officer.Prestige and respect in society. ( There is certainly a difference in reaction of person when you tell him that you are IES and when you tell him that you are engineer in PSU).Through IES you can contribute directly to the development of our country through your innovative ideas. But in PSU it is possible that you might remain confined to the project of that company only.IES is a difficult exam because government wants the best talent who can contribute in a significant way to the development of a country through his new and innovative ideas. (So good filtering of candidate is necessary for this)IES is a job which is pretty much comparable to IAS with only difference being that IES is a SPECIALIST job whereas IAS is a GENERALIST job. And all other things remain same.According to me, IES is more challenging job as compared to PSU. You will get to learn new things everyday.Let you are selected as IES then if you want to join PSU then you will be in upper grade then other PSU selected . Example:- A join PSU, B selected as IES and after some year A is 2+ grade then before and if B wants to join PSU( yes you can move to PSU after IES) then you will end up with 4+ or more garde then AAt last, it depends upon individual interest. Job in PSU is also good as it also requires good amount of hard work to achieve it,but if you want to work only in your engineering discipline service with huge prestige and respect associated, then IES is a best option.Best of luck!!!!

Can a B.Tech degree holder apply for a post for JE (junior engineer) in various government/central government jobs like at UPPCL?

No, B.tech holders are not eligible in UPPCL for Junior Engineer post. One of my friend having B.tech degree in Electrical engineering applied for Junior engineer post, cleared the written exam (computer based) and called for interview, But at the time of document verification, they found that he was not having Diploma (which is essential), they did not allowed him for interview, clearly mentioning B.tech holders not eligible.

Which is better SSC JE or PSU?

I appeared for Gate 17 and secured AIR 162. I got selected even im PSUs(although not maharatnas). I even got selected in West Bengal for AE class 1 post through Gate.Simultaneously I cracked SSC JE 2016 exam and finally got selected for CPWD.I joined CPWD instead of any PSU reason being PSUs have now become unstable(especially during this govt tenure) whereas CPWD is a core civil dept where you really get to utilize what you have studied. Even though I am getting less salary and perks are approx nil, still I find this job interesting.I have some powers here. I have to deal with the clients( really powerful ones also like Army Brig. and lt. General) and also take up the issues of general public residing in quarters under my section. Along with this I have to keep myself up to date with the ongoing works. So govt job may be relaxing bt mine is surely not a relaxing one I still enjoy this hectic job cz when some work gets completed I get a sense of satisfaction that work was done under my supervision. Now coming to which job is better, it depends on perspective of the person willing to do the job. And clearly my vote goes CPWD.(if u r able to crack UPSC that would be best!!)

What does it mean by various grade level like E1, E2.. E7 in PSUs in India?

These Grades are positioned according to departmental promotional policy. Say , you are recruited in E-2 grade and after 4 years your promotion is due. Then, if you are promoted , you will be known into E-3 grade . Designation  will  also change accordingly like Sr. engineer to Deputy manager etc. Salary, perks and benefits also increase but you can't guarantee  the  increment in level of responsibility. Here is an example of GAIL INDIA LTD. Below Board Level ExecutivesGradePay scalew.e.f (1.1.2007)DesignationE-962000 – 80000Executive DirectorE-851300 – 73000General ManagerE-751300 – 73000Dy.
