Where In The World Should I Not Go To The Dentist

Do they weigh you at the dentist?

not in my experience, I have never been weighed at the dentist nor have may children. You might get weighed at the oral surgeon, but from what I can remember I wasn't weighed there either, just my blood pressure taken.

Have you ever gone to a dentist that you liked?

Yes, I normally only go to dentists I like. Perhaps it is a bit easier for me, since I know so many colleagues. So it might be simpler for me to choose a dentist I know does a good job, and whom it is a pleasure to see every now and then.I once was referred to a dentist who was a well known specialist, who was supposed to do what she was expected to be good at. After two appointments I had enough - I did not make a new appointment, and said I was going to have the rest done at my own clinic (or do it myself). So I have had bad encounters with colleagues, too. Once.Actually you don’t really have to like your dentist - but you should not go to a dentist you dislike. And you should never go to a dentist whom you don’t trust.

Do dentists earn more than other doctors? Why?

Dentists do not make more than all doctors. They average $166,000 a year in the US. The average physician in the US makes $189,000. So on average dentists make less. Of course there are areas of overlap where a rural family practitioner will make less than the average dentist. There are high end dentists who may make more than 75% of physicians. Orthopedic Surgeons make $512,000 in the US. So half of orthopedic surgeons make more (I know it is not a median, but an average) and half less. One reason that most dentists do well is that they virtually always get paid unless they do charity work. Yes there is dental insurance but it doesn’t lower the pay to the dentist drastically. One cannot just walk into the dentist’s office needing a crown costing $850 and expect to get the treatment without pre-paying him (minus what the insurance is supposed to pay if you have it).Meanwhile, you come to the ER after a traffic accident with a broken femur the orthopedic surgeon will operate on you even if he knows he won’t get paid. You will get a bill from the ER, hospital, surgeon, anesthesiologist etc, but you will get the treatment. If you have no money, you will eventually be sent to collections.See the difference? You received emergency treatment at the ER and from multiple medical staff and the facility while the dentist had no obligation to treat you. You could lose your tooth without that cap….he still gets paid before he will do it.So first your premise is incorrect but I can see why you may make than assumption.

Do dentists ever get bored of teeth?

Some dentists can’t leave the mouth at work. They are dentists 24/7/365. “Hey! How ‘bout that second molar?” They can’t leave it!I found dentistry something I could leave at the office and could pursue other things in the off hours. I really never got bored by the work and teeth are part of the work. The problem was never boredom, it was irritation. Irritation caused by insurance companies or third party payers trying to not pay what they should for patients. One company, whom we were contacted with for service, underpaid us by $10,000.00 (in 1990 dollar value). The state intervened and we got paid. Irritation because rural dentists, who had the same experiences as metropolitan dentists, were paid less for service.Irritation was also from government rules and regulations. I understood the need for the regulations for the protection of patients, staff and dentists. But, many requirements were more for job protection rather than patient protection. For example, having complied with OSHA regulations for ten years, the state decided we needed 8 hours of OSHA training from teams of government assigned employees. Having exceeded all requirements for infection control, the state decided we need continuing education in infection control.

How often do you visit the dentist?

ALSO, IF ANY UK PEOPLE OVER THERE ARE STILL AWAKE , I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY TIMES THE TYPICAL UK RESIDENT VISITS THE DENTIST?

IS THIS SOMETHING THE MEDICAL INDUSTRY IN THE US IS ONLY PUSHING OR IS THAT ALSO IN THE UK?

How can I go about getting free dental work?

I don't know any details about you so I'll tell you how some other people get free care in the US.States offer medicaid to low income people. Medicaid covers some basic dental procedures and the patient does not have to pay anything at all. It depends on the procedures that you need done, but sometimes you can get free care if you have an issue that you need taken care of that can be done to teach other dentists the procedure. For example, my mom got a free dental implant before I became a dentist. You can also talk to dentists personally and try to trade something for dental care.Children can get free dental care from dentists many times. No one wants to see a kid suffer

Does anyone ever take there shoes off when they go to the dentist?

I have never done this myself, but I have seen other people do it. I have been in the dental field for 6 years and every so often someone will kick off there shoes before getting into the chair. I try to make my patients as comfortable as possible, and if that helps them I am all for it!

Does anyone ever take there shoes off when they go to the dentist?

I never wear any shoes anywhere.

I went for a preliminary visit to one dentist before the one I currently have who did have a problem with bare feet, one of the *very* few times I've been asked to wear shoes here in the Netherlands, but she was extremely unfriendly and uptight so I didn't become a patient there... long before she said anything about my feet & I told her I didn't have any shoes with me she literally scolded me about not taking better care of my feet in the kind of voice people use to a small child, she told me that if I didn't follow her instructions to the letter she'd not bother to take me as a patient, well I told her she wouldn't have to bother because I wasn't going to have her as a dentist. No way I was going to let someone with such a lot of anger poke around in my mouth with sharp instruments! The next dentist I went to was very nice, never had a problem with my bare feet and said anything that made me more relaxed was a good thing. He also had a skylight in the ceiling and had put stuffed animals up there for the kids (and older patients :)) to look at during the procedures; quite customer-friendly and being able to relax indeed makes the whole thing a lot easier for both patient and dentist.
