How long has Madagascar been a part of Africa?

I don’t know why people always say that Madagascar is part of India but we are as Malagasy we never heard that information that our country come from the part of India. You can ask anyone in Madagascar but all of them didn’t know about that. Since long time ago our ancestors teach us that our country was part of Africa not India. Sorry it’s not offensive to tell that but there is some people in here always insist that Madagascar is part of India/Africa which is not true.Madagascar was long time ago part of Africa but it split from Africa and located down in the bottom of Africa due of landslides struck happened with Madagascar and 2 others countries. The other 2 countries was disappeared and only Madagascar was left. That’s how our ancestors teach us since then till now.

What mountain ranges are found in Madagascar?

The tallest one (and largest by area) is Tsaratanàna, near the northern end of the country (tallest peak: Maromokotro, 2876 meters [9436 f]). It’s a rather isolated region of rugged peaks surrounded with tropical rainforests. Large parts of the range are in protected areas. Its size and ruggedness almost completely isolates the country’s northern tip from the rest of the island. The second tallest is Andringitra, near the south-eastern coast (tallest peak: Pic Boby, 2658 meters [8720 ft]). It generally appears as a collection of massive granite peaks peeking out of high altitude grasslands, with tropical forests covering their eastern flanks. Most of the range is a protected area. The third tallest is Ankaratra, in the central highlands, within sight of the capital city (tallest peak: Tsiafajavona, 2644 meters [8668 ft]). It’s made of extinct and dormant volcanoes, covered with high grasslands and a few forests. It’s the most accessible of the three major ranges.Other notable ranges:Ivakoany (Sahanasy, 1778 meters [5833 ft]) and Anosy (Trafonaomby, 1959 meters [6427 ft]) near the south-eastern tip of the island, the latter separating the tropical humid south-east from the arid desert south.Isalo (1304 meters [4278 ft]) in the south-west, a famous tourist destination due to its gorgeous landscapes of rocky ruins standing above the grasslands, and the animals and plants that live in the range’s canyons.Montagne d’Ambre (1474 meters [4836 ft]), near the northern tip of the island, is a small extinct volcanic massif. It’s covered with jungles and is a protected area, though easily accessible from the northern port of Antsiranana.Note that none of Madagascar’s mountains is high enough to have an ice cap (or even just some snow) on its peak.

What is it like living in Madagascar?

Living in Madagascar is amazing. People are very welcoming here, houses are not the same as in a developed country but we don't live in the "jungle". (Here is the photo of the capital, Antananarivo.)Roads could be better, because spending 6 hours for 360kms and sometimes even 1 day for 190kms because there is no freeway, there is also a lot of transports such as the "pousse-pousse" or the "tuck-tuck" like in Bangkok. The problem with the traffic here is that there is only one road for everybody. Let's talk about economy, well, the economy is starting to be more prosperous. The economy should be good, but Madagascar was unstable politically and exchanges with others countries stopped. Internet, Internet... It is sure that for people living in countries such as France, or in the US, Internet is very slow here, and sometimes when there is a power cut there is no internet during 1-2 days. Some areas are considered more modern and "connected" than others, big cities have better access to Internet, and there are some cities in the bush where the Internet don't even exists. Madagascar is a beautiful country, life is pretty chill and you don't overstressed here. People are welcoming and the culture is very special and nice ! Everyone should visit this country once in their life. (Sorry for my English, there are many mistakes I think). Cheers,Karel Kwong.

What are Madagascar neighboring countries?

Madagascar is an island so it has no land boarders. On the African mainland its neighbours are Mozambique and Tanzania. In the Indian Ocean its neighbours are: The Comoros, Mauritius, French Indian Ocean Territory including Reunion and to the North Seychelles which has a large ocean territory.
