Teenage girl trying to dress modestly?
I'm a fifteen year old girl, maybe that qualifies as a young woman, I guess. I've been starting to go to youth group with my best friend who invited me and I really enjoy it. I love worshiping God, following Jesus, etc. I'm a Christian, have been since I was baptized as a baby, went to Sunday School when I was little, etc. I've been reading the Bible and I came across a few lines in Corinthians about women covering their heads during prayer, and in other chapters about modesty. My mom calls herself a Catholic, but when I told her about my desire to follow God's will and dress modestly, etc. she completely mocked me for it. Said I'd look like a Muslim if I covered my head, asked me why I need to dress modest anyway, I'd be dressing like a guy if I covered myself, I don't need to follow the Bible since it's 2000 years old etc. My mom bought me a white scarf/veil to wear when I pray at home or say the rosary, but won't let me wear it in public or even at Church. I haven't even told my dad yet of my want to dress modestly and so on because I'm worried he'll have the same reaction. Should I tell him? Should I cover my head in public and dress modestly? If I were then what should I wear? I'm wearing a t-shirt with long sleeves underneath and a pair of plain jeans right now. Are jeans immodest or sinful for a woman to wear? If any Christian women would share their thoughts on my predicament, or Christian men, please do. (Or any other religion really) Thank you and God bless.
How can I get my teenage daughter to dress more modest?
Hmm.. that's tough. I remember when I was that age. Have you tried explaining to her that, although it may not seem fair, and while you don't condone judging people by the way they look or what they wear, most of society does. And that by wearing clothing that is more mature than her age, she is giving off a certain impression, one that could possibly get her into trouble. ??? Good luck! Teenagers are hard!
Stores that sell modest clothes for teens? (in stores; not online)?
I'm a teen girl a majority of teen clothing stores sell clothes that bare too much skin for me to be comfortable showing. I do like looking styling, but I also like looking modest too. I mean shirts that don't show cleavage, shoulders (during hot days it's okay), back, and upper arms. If a shirt DOES show something bare, then it's with class; the shirt only shows the chest, or maybe only the shoulders. Most shirts I find like to flash it all. I also don't like tight shirts. With the skirts, I want to find ones that aren't mini skirts or maxi skirts (they seem to be the only ones stores sell). I prefer skirts around the knee area; either over the knee or under. Also, if there's a store that sells modest and casual dresses that would be very helpful too! Dresses that reach the knee area please. I know this is very detailed, but I want to be specific so that I can help for suggestions. If you can't get anything out of the above, then what stores sell clothing in the style like Quinn's from Glee? We basically share the same style.

American teen girls: What kind of clothes do you wear?

Well, here you go: I'm 16 & most girls wear clothes from Body Central, Charlotte Russe, Forever21, Delia's, Hollister, Abercrombie, JcPenney's, Old Navy, Pacsun, A'Gaci, and Rue21. When it's incredibly cold outside, like snowing, you can find lots of girls with pea coats on. In all types of patterns. Plaid, black, grey, or in bright colors. I have a grey one, a black one, a blue one, and a hot pink one! Skinny jeans are the most common kind of jeans, some wear straight legs as well. But mostly skinny. Colored jeans, yoga pants (especially from Victoria's Secret Pink as well as hoodies, sequin backpacks from there & shirts from there) and high-waisted pants. Don't forget patterned leggings! Things like tribal print and snowprint patterned leggings. There are also printed jeans, like floral print & such. Right now it's warm & tribal print as well as animal print is in. Also lots of clothes featuring crosses, moustaches, & animals like cats & alligators for some reason, lol. There's also clothes revolved around celebrities like shirts with Marilyn Monroe on them & the members of One Direction. High-waisted shorts, chiffon shirts, muscle tees, lots of bold colors & prints. As well as graphic shirts. Its all about your personal style, really. Popular shoes are Sperry's, Van's, Ugg's, Bear Paws, combat boots, and sandals. Like gladiators & flip-flops. Bustiers along with high-waisted shorts or bold colored pencil skirts. And lots of studs, spikes. Blue jean vests are big right now as well. But trends can be worn as long as you'd like, it's not all about season. High-Low dresses & skirts are in as well too right now.
Why teenagers usually prefer such trendy clothes?
I'm a teenager, and i think most of us like to wear trendy clothes is because, A. they make us feel really good about ourselves. Seeing yourself looking good in a trendy outfit is a great confidence booster or B. Lot's of teenagers wear trendy stuff because they want to be considered stylish, or have a similar style to a movie star. Teenagers are pretty much the same as adults. Why should I allow my daughter to wear revealing clothes like shorts? I am an old school guy and I want to bring my daughter up traditionally. Are these thought processes wrong?
Since they were little, I never let my 2 girls wear spaghetti strap tops or very short shorts. Yes, they wear modest shorts. The rule is that they can sit criss-cross without showing their underwear. They don’t feel comfortable wearing them now that they are teens. They are not sports kids, but do wear that style most often. Maybe they will change someday when they are in their 20s and that will be their decision. The middle school rule was that the shorts have to be as long as their thumb (or middle finger) with their arm at their side. The high school rule is that they cannot show their buttocks, including if they bend down (my high school exchange student found this out).If your kids are little, don’t buy them clothes that you won’t want them to wear now or later on. Discuss this with your spouse, depending on who takes them to buy clothes. When they want to buy it, say ‘no - maybe when you are older.’ Even if they say all the other kids are doing it. You are entitled to spend your money as you wish, and you are the adult. Do not rely on children’s thinking. Learn to be assertive with them, but not critical. Only give them choices that you approve. Maybe this means you have to be the one to take them shopping. IF they have their own money for clothes and want this, then you might have to threaten to take away other privileges (paying for iPhone) if they buy it on their own.Depending on where you live, and what is your culture/country, most girls do need to wear some type of summer clothes including shorts. But they can be a style both you and they approve.
Do teen girls still wear clothes from Gap?
I'm 19 and I've bought some cute clothes from Gap, just last week I got a really cute boyfriend cardigan from there. I think you can shop just about anywhere and find cute clothes. I know the "I only wear A&F, AE, and Hollister" crowd,will say no teenagers shop at Gap, but If you see things there that you like go for it and shop at Gap. Don't limit yourself to one type of clothing, or only one brand. Plus you won't look every other Hollister, AE A&F clone, so once again, it you like what you see at Gap, and it looks good on you then who the F&^K cares if anyone else shops there. Just dress the way you want to. :)
