Where can I sell my used DVDs and tv shows?

Have you tried classifieds? There are plenty of free sites out there that do not require you to entire in any type of financial information to try and sell something. Free classifieds are a great way to get the word out there that you have something to offer. Here are a few and they're pro/cons:

www.atster.com
great free site, no registration needed, simple design and easy to navigate. What I found is that when you post on atster, it gets indexed by the search engines pretty quickly, so someone doing a search online might be able to find your ad without actually going to atster.

www.LiveSimon.com
Pretty much the same, free to list, no info is taken besides your email address (so that you can get responses to your ads), and also gets indexed fairly quickly.

There are others out there as well. Don't just rely on one ad either, do a search online for "free classifieds" and post your ads on a few site. The more people who see it, the better chances of it selling.

Have you used online auctions other than Ebay, for selling or buying?

Yes there are good free and good less-expensive auction sites that do offer the buyer or seller or trader or giver a good quick easy place to buy sell trade or give away items.
Check Yahoo auctions as well as these other sites.

Can one legally turn a profit by selling his DVDs?

Assuming by "his DVDs" you mean DVDs that were legally bought, but are works created by other people. If so, in the United States you would have no problem with that. There is a thriving, legal trade in selling physical copies of used books, records and DVDs.All of this falls under the First Sale Doctrine in the US (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fir...). Think about it. Without a law that enables the transfer of physical copies from one hand to another, the copyright owner would have to directly sell and buy every copy (or give permission for each sale; nearly as bad). Even stores could not sell the product without this permission. The First Sale Doctrine allows physical copies that were legal sold (to a distributer, most likely) to be resold, as long as these are legitimate copies made under license by the copyright holder. Now then, to address "turning a profit"; I agree that you can sell the DVDs. Whether you are able to do so for more than you bought them for is up to you, but unlikely given the current market.

Which website is the most recommended for selling used music CDs?

For collectible or rare items, Ebay is still the best bet.   If you've never sold there before take some time to learn the ropes before you list valuable stuff.  For everything else this is basically a choice between equally bad options.  Ebay again, Ebay's half.com, and Amazon Marketpace are all usable, well-respected portals for peer-to-peer selling of such items.  However the value of common CDs is so low right now as to make this seldom worth the effort.   Many CDs on Ebay commonly sell for default shipping cost only.   By the time you inventory, list, track, package, and mail your CDs you have invested more time than you can possibly recover in value.  If you file taxes in the US and itemize deductions, you can do better by donating them en masse to your local charitable thrift store; the resulting tax deduction will likely net you more than direct selling by mail.   See also  JG McLean's answer to What should I do with my CDs?
