Well Ĩ one is to American and the other (D.R.) is just beautiful. If you are from the USA don't go to P. Rico if you want to go to a different country.
Puerto Rico vs. the Dominican Republic?
Well, I suppose you are american, so if you go to Puerto Rico, it's like staying at home not? So, I would suggest to go to the Dominican Republic, it's totally different (also the language) and this is the purpose to travel, to discover... And don' t go to Punta Cana, because this is not the real Dominican Republic, this is a huge hotel strip nothing more. Instead go to Puerto Plata, there you will find anything outside the resorts beside beaches at a few minutes traveling...

Well Dominican Republic is poor if we compare it to the United States of course. Now, Dominican Republic is the richest country in the Caribbean. They have awesome beaches and are very hospitable. Dominican Republic is known for being one of the best vacation destinations for US citizens. Having Haiti next door hasnt affected Dominican Republic in any way. Now, Mexico is cool too. If you want my opinion; when I think about vacations I think about the Caribbean sun.

The Dominican Republic is a rich country, in the 80’s and 90’s while most of latin america was suffering from extremely severe convulsions the Dominican Republic had peace and tranquility. While I moonlighted at the Fontainebleau hotel and was learning about hospitality in 2008, the DR was voted the best destination in the caribbean. With it’s central location and it’s mostly stable judicial system cum government it’s a very good place to park your investments, Cuba WAS a great place prior to the Castro brother’s taking over. However now it’ll take Cuba a good solid ten years to realistically catch up to DR.DR calculated nearly 5 million tourists arrivals in 2015. The goal is to reach 10 million tourists per year.Colombian entrepreneurs come to DR to learn on how we are doing so well with regards to tourism.Allegedly Mexico and other caribbean islands are so envious of DR’s tourism performance that they carry out smear campaigns to discredit the country.Thousands of Venezuelans who for XYZ reason don’t want to go to Miami or Europe have made the country home.Haitians know DR to be a place where they can find opportunity.So 3rd world country, I can’t really use that term. I find it inapplicable to DR.With all that said.There are still places without running water and where electrical services are faulty if not non-existent.Crime and corruption are having quite a heyday and many good people have lost their lives in petty incidents which is quite sad.The PLD government rules unchecked and with near total power.Changes do need to take place to properly define the DR.
Jamaica, Dominican Republic, or Puerto Rico ? Vacation for young couple.?
Jamaica for the price (Negril, nicest beach; Ocho Rios, most things to do) but the Dominican Republic has prettier beaches. Puerto Rico is awesome for the casinos and the most comfortable for a US citizen if you are one. The prettiest beach (Flamingo) in Puerto Rico is on Culebra island off the main land so may have to decide between all the action or the beautiful romantic beach. Lots of neat day trip if you stay in Puerto Rico also. I'd choose it if you're planning a longer vacation but one of the others if you're planning a short one -5 days or less.
