Where Would Be An Ideal Base To Stay With My Family When Visiting Legoland Windsor

Is it worth visiting Windsor, Stonehenge and Bath if I only have a day to go there from London?

As someone who has lived in Bath, lived near Windsor and visited Stonehenge on multiple occasions, including a private tour, I will say with absolute certainty that you cannot do all three in a day. If I were to choose which to do, Bath would be my first choice, Stonehenge, my second choice and Windsor quite a distant third choice. Or, if I could, I’d choose to do all three in separate day trips. You could combine Stonehenge with a visit to Salisbury, which has a very beautiful and interesting cathedral. The best way to get to Bath from London is by train from Paddington Station. Bath Spa Station has an unusual city centre location and everything worth seeing is within walking distance or a short bus journey. If you do choose to drive, from central London, take the A4 to Chiswick and take the A316 to the M3. Take the M3 to junction 8 and fork left onto the A303. Take the A303 to Stonehenge, which you’ll see on your right. If Bath is your objective, just settle for seeing Stonehenge from the car. Turn right onto the A360 and follow to Shrewton. Just as the village ends, take the left turn onto the B390 towards Chitterne. Stay on the B390 until it ends at a T-junction and turn right onto the A36 towards Warminster and Bath. Follow the road into Bath city centre. While your satnav may suggest using the M4 to Bath, the route I suggest is really pretty, while the M4 is quite dull.In Bath, I recommend the Roman Baths Museum, Homepage. In my opinion, it is the most interesting single subject museum I’ve visited anywhere in the world. I also recommend the museum at No.1 Royal Crescent. There are many other museums and I’ve only visited a few. I really think that a day trip will only give you a taster and that two or three days would be better and you could then also visit Bradford-on-Avon and have tea at thebridgetearooms. If visiting, Stonehenge, follow my road directions or take a train to Salisbury. Then there’s quite a long bus journey. While in the Salisbury area, visit the cathedral as well. The main attraction of Windsor is the castle. I cannot really think of much else other than Windsor Great Park. Windsor is easy to get to either by car on the M4 or by train to Windsor and Eton Central. Apart from the castle, Windsor is just another commuter town, albeit a very rich commuter town with some attractive old buildings.

Why did Germany not bomb Windsor Castle during WW2?

The Luftwaffe [German airforce] bombed both the Buckingham Palace [where King George VI lived] and 10 Downing street. In both cases, the targets survived. Buckingham Palace alone withstood 9 bombing hits. How the Luftwaffe bombed the palace, in the Queen Mother's own words10 Downing StreetThe King and Queen primarily lived in the Buckingham palace, and not Windsor Castle. In fact, Churchill asked the King to be safe in that castle [much more away from Germany and the castle was good enough to withstand bombs of that era], but the King refused. He wanted to be with his people and visited his subjects during the raids in their shelters. Only Princess Elizabeth and her sister Margaret were sent to the Windsor for safety. http://www.annefrankguide.net/en... Again, the bombing focused a lot on London as they wanted to cripple both the industrial power as well as the civilian morale. Going far west to Windsor Castle just to try hitting the monarch was not useful [even if he was there], especially when it is not going to do much damage to a castle & its residents. Has anyone ever Sexed-up a Guard at the Buckingham Palace?

to be fair most people just stand near by and just stare, then one of the group will run over, the cameras flash then they run off, once the rest have seen it is safe to come over then your have a que of people come over have a photo then walk off, the vast majority of people are fine they just want to stand next to you and have there moment with you

however some of the things people do has to be seen to be believed!!!

certainly there have been times were your kissed, cuddled and generally mauled by members of the public, this is mainly when you on guard in a quiet area, you get an idea something is going to happen because your hear whispering and giggling near by,

people have flashed, booty grind up against you, wrapped their legs around you, tried to kiss you, steal bits of your uniform, (the bearskin being the favourite or medals)

men will come up and pretend they are going to punch you, or stand next to you for a photo and try and lean into you and push you over,

sometimes things can get a bit out of hand, drunks are a problem, you also have people with mental heartily issues who can be a bit unpredictable, guards have been spat on and people have tried to assaulted them before.
one time someone even attacked a horse guard with a 18in machete and tried to slash the horse, the guard had to protect the horse with his foot, and deliberately took the blows onto his leg, (he wasn't badly hurt as he had his thigh high leather riding boots on) this was on horse guards parade, in central london in front of hundreds of people, the man was quickly subdued by guardsmen and police. the horse had a few shallow cuts and the trooper needed hospital treatment

i was a guard for a long time, it is fine for people to touch us, we can not stop you, if your too silly about what your trying to do we either march away or the police (who are all around) will come and arrest you, we will not threaten you or attack you for doing so, we won't speak to you or touch you back, if we don't like it we simply march away, that said, no guardsman will be upset at getting a kiss from a pretty girl!!!
