Which Audition Website Is The Best To Use And What Are Some Legit Commercial Agencies In Nyc

Is audition agency a scam or is it legit?

Legitimate agencies don't have you sign up online. You can find legitimate agents by looking on the SAG website http://www.sag.org/content/find-agent. Most of those auditions websites are scams that charge you money for out of date auditions.
However, as other posters say, you are not going to find a legitimate agent before you have a few years of acting experience. School plays are a great place to start but that's not enough. You need to get involved with community theater and show an agent that you are talented enough to keep getting cast in amateur productions before anyone will even consider representing you and sending you out on a professional audition. Also speak to your school drama teacher to find out about reputable acting schools or workshops near you. Look for youth theater companies in your area like the New Jersey Youth Theater, Essex Youth Theater, Saddle River Youth Theater, etc and sign up for one of their classes. If you like it, then you can start auditioning for their productions.

What would be the best websites for finding acting auditions for new actors in London?

Backstage.com just expanded into the UK, currently they ~150 roles available in London, more than half of which are paid, and more are being added daily. They have the most robust and polished interface of any acting platform on the market, and they generally have the most roles available as well, depending on the region. In addition, the price is all-inclusive, meaning you can apply to any casting call listed, and you don’t have to pay extra for adding media (headshots, videos, audio, etc), which is how some casting platforms do it.If you decide to go that route, your best bet is to subscribe, put together your best talent profile that you can (get some decent headshots for instance, and have a good demo reel) and apply to the roles to gain experience and build up your resume so that you can get a quality agent. Just to clarify: I work at Backstage.

How do you find legit movie auditions?

If you want to get auditions for major film/tv roles, you NEED an agent. ONLY agents have access to such auditions. NO ONE ELSE!

To get an agent, you need to get GREAT headshots, a good resume, and TRAINING from the best. These are enough to get you a commercial agent at least. Getting a GOOD theatrical agent (Film/tv) takes longer. Most good theatrical agents won't see you unless you're SAG, have a polished resume, and a demo reel. Commercial agents are more lenient about that. What the best Commercial agents want to see on your resume are good commercial classes, improv, and cold reading.

You can get an agent multiple ways. Here are a few common ways:
-Mail in an unsealed manilla envelope with a CONCISE coverletter and headshot with the resume stapled on the back. If you have a demoreel include that too.
-Attend a showcase and impress them. By showcase I do not mean scammy conventions like IMTA, IPOP, Proscout, or Best New Talent. I mean legit ones like at Actor Connection, Reel pros, Network Studios, etc.
-Get a referral from a friend who is with the agency that you're interested in

DON'T
-Email them unless they tell you to. IT'S UNPROFESSIONAL!
-Call unless they tell you to. ALSO UNPROFESSIONAL!
-Walk in and ask for a meeting. UNPROFESSIONAL THREE!
-Sign with them if they ask for upfront money, make you take new photos with THEIR photographer, or take THEIR classes. Agent's ONLY make money when you do. Agents usually make 10% on film/tv and commercials and 20% on commercial print.

Is backstage a legit audition site?

There are a handful of trustworthy casting websites online. Backstage is one of the good ones. But there are lots of scams in show biz, so you should always Google reviews before signing on to any service. (Full disclosure: I work at Backstage currently, but will also mention a few other helpful resources.) Backstage has been around since 1960 and is one of the most trusted resources for actors in the world. In addition to publishing a weekly magazine for actors, our casting platform includes a messaging service, a digital profile, an auditions calendar, entertainment-industry resources, and access to over 6,000 roles for projects actively casting across the U.S.—with new roles being added 24/7. The talent database is searched by filmmakers and casting departments over 2 million times a month. Here’s a list of popular actors who have used Backstage: www.backstage.com/testimonialsWe’re also 100x better than sites like Craigslist because the casting details are personally checked by a team of Backstage's editors. Mistakes are fixed, updates are made constantly, and scams are quickly banned. If you see something fishy, you can always message our costumer service department via Facebook.   Other trusted websites for actors include Actors Access, Casting Networks, Casting Workbook, Cast It Systems, Reality Wanted, and Audition Update. And there are also casting companies such as Central Casting and Grant Wilfley Casting, which are a different type of business—they're not websites that actors sign up to view and apply to casting calls. Instead, they're actual actual casting offices that cast background actors for major films and TV shows (and the casting directors at these companies post their casting calls on sites like Backstage.com).If you're interested in acting work, you should definitely look into reputable casting companies like Backstage and the companies above. They're legit, and (actually) monitor their casting notices.

Do you know of any legit acting agencies in the new jersey/new york area?

Well, you're in luck. That's one of the best places to look for an agent because there are tons of legit ones out there. Go to www.Sag.org , use the dropdown menu on the right labeled 'resources' and choose 'agent information'. On the next screen, on the left choose 'Find a SAG franchised agent' and follow the directions.

Then you can send them your headshot, resume, and a cover letter stating that you are seeking representation and wait to see if they call you in for an interview.

Once you have an agent, they will get you the auditions, but until then you can check out actorsaccess.com. For theatre, you can go to backstage.com or http://www.actorsequity.org/castingcall/... If you find the audition on the Equity site, you still may be able to go, as long as their not taking appointments from equity actor's only :-) On backstage.com you have to pay to get all of the info, but the initial search is free and you may be able to see enough info to find out the rest on your own without paying.

In NY, doing theatre may be a big harder if you're not Equity. I would take NewYorkGal's word on this one... It's her city :-)

Good luck!

Does Anyone Know Good Acting Agencies in NYC?

I really want to get in the acting business. I am a young actress and have been in plays, but i would like to take a step further. My parents say that if they are going to put me in an agency it has to be affordable and not a cheapskate. Please answer if you know any agencies or auditions.

What are good talent agencies in New York city?

You only need an agent if you're going to try to work professionally and professional acting is a business. That you don't know how to find an agent indicates you should need to do more research about how the industry works. If you're a minor, your parents HAVE to be very actively involved. There are legal restrictions/requirements for minors in the industry.

The best way to get an agent is through networking. Talk to people and let them know you're looking for representation. Maybe you've impressed an acting teacher/coach, director or other actor enough that they would be willing to refer you to an agent. Often well-respected acting schools attract talent agents to their showcases to see students perform. Blind submissions (sending in a head shot and resume unsolicited to agents) is one thing to try. It's more effective for minors and becomes less effective for adults.

You can get a list of legitimate agents from the SAG-AFTRA website and industry websites like backstage.com:

http://www.sagaftra.org/agency-relations...
http://www.sagaftra.org/agency-relations...
http://www.backstage.com/resources/searc...

But again - research the industry before you go looking for "an" agent. You want to get an agent that can help you with your career goals. Understand that actors are not "discovered". It's more like starting a company and you are the product that has to be marketed and sold. So you need a good product (talent, training and experience), but you also have to understand the business as well.
