Which Cardinal Direction Would You Go From Utah To Arizona

How long does it take a bird of prey to kill its prey after catching it?

The technique and the time it takes to kill prey varies greatly depending on the type of raptor and the size of the prey.Hawks and other members of the Accipitridae  family,     (eagles, harriers, kites), use their talons to catch and subdue struggling prey, rather than to kill it quickly.  They'll sometimes squeeze the animal to the point of suffocation if it's small enough; but with bigger prey (like your rabbit) they land on top of it and stay on top of it until they've got it under control to avoid injuries or escape.  They use their beaks to pluck fur or feathers from the animal, causing further trauma.  Once they've done this,  they'll begin to eat it while it's, however briefly, still alive.  The hawk in your yard was probably just starting the process of subduing the rabbit when you startled it.   Hawks have huge talons on their first and second toes.   They use them to tear prey open while it holds on with the other shorter talons. Falcons hunt and kill prey using a different method. They employ a sort of cruise missile technique, slamming full force into their prey, knocking the animal out or breaking it's neck on impact.   They can do this in mid-air or on the ground. Falcons have shorter, curved talons on the first and second toe used to grip and sometimes carry prey.  They use a sharp 'tooth' on the tip of their beak to pluck off fur or feathers and to open up the animal.   Here's what looks to be a sharp shinned hawk demonstrating the process.    This isn't particularly gory, but it might be troublesome to sensitive people.

What is one natural beauty in America that everyone should see?

As a literal statement, I’m uncomfortable with the “everyone should see” phrase. Plenty of people live their entire lives within a hundred mile radius of where they were born and have useful, meaningful, productive, and fulfilling lives. They don’t see many of the sights that mean so much to many others, but their quality of life is no less. In identifying any place as a “must see,” I don’t mean to be denigrating their lives in any way.Having said that, I’ll give an answer for those who are like me and have a tremendous drive to see the great natural beauties of the United States.I would probably rank Bryce Canyon N.P. as the top “must see” destination for those who love visiting the great natural beauties of America. The colors, textures, and shapes of the canyon are amazing. They are great when viewed from the rim and great when viewed from the trails within the canyon. Different parts of the canyon have slightly different scenery from the main amphitheater, and people will find beauty in these places as well. The best part is visiting on a day with great visibility. On the far horizons are other shapes, colors, and textures of the surrounding desert. These add to the beauty, and without them, maybe another natural beauty could surpass Bryce Canyon.Question as asked at the time of my answer:What is one natural beauty in America that everyone should see?

Should I use capital letters for terms of direction? North, South East & West have caps, what about southwest?

When you mention a specific "region"
* up in the North
* the South shall rise again
* in the East
* in the West
Then these are capitalized.

When you talk about general directions
* go north on First Street
* located south of the river
* head east on the highway
* go west or southeast
* the southwest side of the city
These are not capitalized.

If the USA was divided into 3 regions (East, Central, and West), what states would each region contain?

The 3 regions would probably better be organzied likewise:NORTH: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wisconsin. Includes the District of Columbia.SOUTH: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. Includes Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.WEST: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. Includes American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Which mountains are nearest to Louisiana?

The Ozarks would be closest then it would be the Appalachian Mountains.

What is considered the south in the United States?

The Deep South with various definitions, usually including:

Alabama
Arkansas
Georgia
Louisiana
Mississippi
North Carolina
South Carolina
Tennessee

Occasionally, parts of adjoining states are included such as sections of East Texas and parts of Florida such as the panhandle and north central part of the state. See the map in the first link below.

Additionally, the term "Dixie" is used as a definite geographic location within the United States. "Dixie" is usually defined as the 11 Southern states that seceded to form the Confederate States of America. They are in order of secession:

South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

This definition is strongly correlated with history and, in the minds of many Southerners, remains the traditional and emotional South.
