Which Career Would This Be

If you could choose any career, what would it be? Why?

I am an IT professional but if i had to select any other, then i would have selected medical field. I would have been a doctor. Whatever you say, scope of this profession can’t limit or die.Not only because it’s highest earning job but for me, it’s humanitarian. I would have made my own private clinic where i could have served poor people for free. No happiness can be matched to the one which comes after helping a poor and needy. It’s really most respectable profession.Prime ministers, presidents and other wealthiest people of the world ask help from these doctors. But doctors consider them as a subject and they don’t understand rich and poor status. Thanks

What career would make you groan if your child chose it?

I’m sitting in my living room drinking some tea.Imaginary son: “Mom… I have to tell you something.” *looks worried*Me: “What happened??”Imaginary son: “…………”Me: “Did you fail another Algebra test ??”Imaginary son: “No I-”Me: “What??”Imaginary son: “I know you wanted me to be a lawyer just like you but - “Me: “ - Oh! It’s ok if you want to be a doctor instead!” *sips some more tea happily*Imaginary son: “No, I want to be a K-pop Star”Me: *spits out tea* WAIT. WHAT??Imaginary son: “Yeah you learned to speak Korean, So I wanted to take an even bigger step and become a K-Pop Idol. AND people say I have the dance moves.”Me: “But son… You’re Pakistani.”

If you were given another chance to choose your career field, what would you choose?

Hmmm. Be a physician? An astronomer? A politician? A four-star general? An automobile salesman? An over-the-road trucker? An actor? A world traveler? A journalist?Nah. None of these. Oh, at different times I have toyed with these ideas and a good many others. Sure, each would be fun and challenging and demanding in its own way, and I have a good deal of respect for people engaged in each those vocations. Each of them is making a contribution to the world.I was interested in mathematics and science for as far back as I can remember. Somewhere around the eighth or ninth grade I decided I wanted to become an engineer, so that is what I pursued through college and beyond. While in college, I developed a further interest in journalism and writing, so I stuck around to get an additional major in that field.Down the line a ways, a number of very good friends encouraged me to go to Harvard and earn an MBA. Upon detailed examination, that seemed to be a very promising and appealing way to expand on my engineering base. Happily, HBS accepted me and as the saying goes, I did right well there.Turned out that my knowledge and credentials in engineering, writing, and business opened up a huge array of fascinating and challenging and very fulfilling activities. In more than 50 years since then, I have never been bored. And I have enjoyed many and quite varied satisfactions. So, more or better in doing something else? Possibly, but not likely. I rather think I could have had a fulfilling life doing a variety of other things, but you can’t have it all. In my case I am entirely satisfied with the choices I made when I was young, and with the way things worked out overall. Yes, things could have been better, and undoubtedly I have not fulfilled all my potential nor gone as far in my professional areas as I might have. But I’m not moaning; what I have had, and what I have done, have given me a lifetime’s happy memories. Can’t think of any career path I would have enjoyed more greatly.

Which careers would you be encouraging a 9 year old to aim for?

At 9 years old their idea of what they want changes from day to day. Encourage them to go for it every single time they change their mind. They want to be a lawyer? Tell them about the job they would do, where they would work, the amount of time, and even the amount of money they earn.Same with all other jobs. Don’t try to push your opinion on the child though.
