Which Filter Should I Use

Should I use a water filter?

Testing your water quality is the first step to purchasing a water filter. Municipal water supplies will generally meet EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) water quality standards, but the EPA doesn’t necessarily have the strictest standards. There are many contaminants in drinking water that we would be better off without--some of which are added by the water utility company itself.A drinking water test may seem like a waste of time, especially if you have already decided you want to to get a water filtration system that removes everything it possibly can. However, by knowing the concentrations of varying toxins and other substances, you will be able to estimate the expected life of the filter components and know better when to replace them.read full info Which Drinking Water Test Should You Choose?

What kind of filter should I use for a sand aquarium?

I have a thirty gallon tank with about one inch of aragonite sand. I have no clue if you have to cycle the tank or how to cycle it. I'm not even sure what kind of filter to use. So if I can have an expert to tell me what top do then I would appreciate it. Any other info I should know is appreciated. About sand base aquariums.

What filtration system should I use?

you dont need a UGF,

a regular hob is fine, i personally like aquaclears, while you can use a canister and it would probably be better.

What you need to focus more on is a curent. If your going reef you need to create mini currents so powerheads are needed. about 2-3 are fine. I personal like aquaclear powerheads, but i also seen some that twist, called powersweep.

The protein skimmer is usually for larger tanks... 55 + IMO.

You really cant overfilter the tank, but you should have enough.

Can I use cigarette filters for a joint?

You can not only use a cigarette filter as a substitute of a roach/tip, you can also use the tip of the cigarette itself as a filter. Like literally the tobacco itself with paper round around it is a good enough filter to put in a jay. The thing about making joints, is that you can use anything as a filter really. You can even use older used roaches, but thats disgusting, but you can. Even fusili pasta.Heres the difference between different filters, and what they affect.A cigarette filter as a filter in a jay will give you a smooth feel when you toke, but not a lot of smoke, since an actual filter exists which holds back a significant amount of smoke. Its holds back the most because its made from cotton. Hence, you will be less higher, but its healthier.A roach or tip as a filter in a joint will give you the typical joint. Not so much smooth as it is harsh, you get a lot of smoke, and you get much higher. But due to the fact that technically nothing exists between the filter and mix, staining your teeth becomes a real worry. But you get much higher. The nice thing about normal tips are the different shapes you can do.Thats pretty much it.Some look amateurish made tho.And ofcourse Filter Rick.

Is it necessary to use lens filter?

Yes and no. Some lens filters are essential and some can be easily replicated in software.Polarising filters are extremely useful. They can make cloudy skies look so much better and they can all but eliminate glare from water and surfaces such as foliage. These effects just cannot be replicated in software.Neutral Density filters. Useful for slowing exposure, to make moving water silky smooth, for example. Not possible in software.Graduated Neutral Density filters. Useful for getting correct exposure of sky and landscape. Can be replicated in software by shooting two separate shots.Light pollution filters. Very handy for astrophotographers. Impossible to replicate in software.Coloured filters. These used to be useful. But their effects can easily be replicated in software.Special effects filters, like star filters. Can be replicated in software if you're ever deranged enough to want to do so.UV/’protective’ filters. Totally useless. Can be replicated in software using the ‘lens flare’ and ‘blur’ tools in Photoshop.

Oil filter slightly dented. Is it still ok to use?

I haven't been changing my own oil for very long at all, but the filter I've liked using is always out of stock at Walmart, so I just ordered it off amazon. Unfortunately it arrived slightly dented in two places around the top edge. Should it still be ok to use?

Can I use a regular oil filter with synthetic oil?

I was talking to a buddy at work the other day, and he states he has mechanics in his family going back generations. Anyways, I told him I was running Pennzoil Ultra in my vehicle and he asked me what type of filter I was using, I told him it was an AC Delco Oil Filter. He scoffed, told me I should have used a Mobil 1 or Purolator synthetic oil filter, and since I didn't I have to change my oil at 3-5k miles or the engine won't stay clean. Somewhere in the conversation he told me if I didn't dog the engine at least once a week and circulate oil at high RPM's it would develop sludge.... with synthetic oil? I don't really understand his logic or where he is coming from with all of these statements but can someone on here please give me the facts on the matter so I can blow his BS out of the water?
