What foods are high in iron?

Seafood: Fish (cod, sardines, tuna, clams, oysters, shrimp)
Poultry: Chicken, eggs, yolk
Lean Red Meats: Beef, lamb, veal, pork, liver
Nuts and Beans Soybeans: dried beans, hazelnuts, almonds, lentils, peanuts
Vegetables: Broccoli, chard, spinach, greens, asparagus, turnips, parsley, kale, watercress, brussel sprouts
Beans: Green, lima, peas, chick peas, garbanzo
Fruits/Sweets: Dates, prunes, figs, apricots, apples, raisins, chocolate, coconut
Fruits/Vegetables (if eaten at the same meal as iron source): Citrus fruits, tomatoes, oranges, cabbage, lemons, green peppers, limes, grapefruits, tangerines, cantaloupes, tangelos
Bread and Cereals: Enriched, fortfied and whole grain breads and cereals are often high in iron (check label)
Grains: Wild rice, corn meal, oats, soybean, wheat, bran, rye, buckwheat, popcorn, barley, wheat germ, millet
Cereals: Farina, cream of wheat, shredded wheat
Milk and Dairy: Poor sources of iron: milk, cheeses (all types, cottage cheese, ice cream, yogurt). These hinder the absorption of iron. Do not use these foods one hour before or one hour after the ingestion of the high iron foods and iron supplements.

What foods contain iron?

I am anemic as well, and those vitamins suck! That's why I just altered my diet to contain more of these foods and increase my iron intake:

-Pork Liver
-Oysters
-Chicken Liver
-Beef Liver
-Breakfast Cereals
-Lentils/Cooked Beans
-Pumpkin Seeds
GOOD SOURCES:
-Beef
-Shrimp
-Sardines
-Turkey
-Canned Beans
-Baked Potato with Skin
-Enriched Pastas
-Canned Asparagus

Also, I take Flinstone vitamins every day, and they contain 100% Iron, and since I started taking them, my iron levels have increased to normal levels...so that could be an option to consider. Those vitamins don't really mess with your stools or urine, and they taste super good!

What vegan foods have iron?

Your highest iron food (vegan or otherwise) is going to be pumpkin and squash seeds (delicious roasted with a little olive oil and sea salt), below that go for peanuts and tree nuts (cashews and almonds).
