Which is better, a Samsung M3 Portable 2 TB external hard drive or a Transcend StoreJet 25M3 2.5-inch 2 TB external hard disk?
Transcend only manufactures the enclosures. The hard drive inside may be Western Digital or Seagate. Samsung on the other hand manufactures its own hard drives. They have been doing it for atleast 20 years to my knowledge. So its only a matter of choice if you want Samsung or choose to go with Seagate Slim Backup or Western Digital Element. I would personally recommend Western Digital. Their internal drives have served me well for years without any problem. I have also used several WD drives at work and never faced any issues with them.

The 850 Evo vs the Kingston v300 doesn't create much of a user noticeable difference for most users. You're looking at a read / write speed difference of 550 MB/s and 450 MB/s.... so while the Evo 850 is about 20% faster, you really only notice that speed if you're working with fairly large files or large volumes of data. For most users, most of the time you wouldn't really perceive a difference and if you did (say you were comparing side by side) the difference would be negligible enough that the extra expense doesn't justify it. SSD vs HDD, the difference is significant. SATA vs M.2 PCI-e x4, the difference is significant. But between a V300 and an Evo 850... I'd save your money and spend elsewhere.

I doubt there's an internal reset button on this model - but do look for it (it will look like a small hole, stated RESET, and you'll need a pen or a paperclip to press it). Back up all information on it (as a portable drive) - and yes, format it as a last resort (you should probebly do it as FAT32).

As far as my observation is concerned, Transcend is more rugged, has better performance, good life, so you need not worry about dropping it, Seagate has best life, but a bit low on performance, WD has less life but much better in terms of performance.Again you should consider other factors like the availability of service center in your locality.
