Which Hobbit Movie To Watch

What should I watch after The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit?

You might well like Game of Thrones, though the spirit is different. Also The Last Kingdom, set in actual Anglo-Saxon history.Don’t bother with pre-Jackson films, except Bakshi as a curio to see what Jackson borrowed. His visions of the characters is terrible and it stops half-way though.Willow is passable.I was also impressed by Japanese fantasy-animations like Spirited Away.If you like SF and have Netflix, try The Expanse.Though it is not a film, The Lord of the Rings (1981 radio series) is excellent and shows a different approach to adapting the book. Nothing comparable for The Hobbit, sadly. There have been film versions of Le Guin’s Earthsea, but not all that good. Poor scriptwriting.

Which movie should I watch first, The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings?

The Hobbit is a trilogy, not a single movie and this is also the case with the LotR. The latter was made first but the former takes places earlier chronologically. However, watching the Hobbit trilogy is not “required” to enjoy or understand the LotR trilogy.Hence, the short answer is it doesn't matter. However, the Hobbit trilogy is worse than the LotR trilogy for several reasons. When making the Hobbit trilogy Peter Jackson (the film maker who made both) significantly modified and expanded on the original story written in the children's book, “The Hobbit”. Unfortunately his changes didn't improve the narrative and weren't particularly praiseworthy. He also dragged out the story (told in a single children's novel) into a trilogy of films by incorporating a lot of extra action scenes and battles. In contrast, the LotR film trilogy is based on a trilogy of adult books with a rich story, large cast of characters and fully realised fantasy setting. When adapting these books, Peter Jackson had to selectively choose from all this detailed content, to decide what to include in his films, which allowed him to remain more faithful to the original novels. Basically, he had to decide what to omit/include rather than trying to make stuff up to “fill out” the films, as he did with the Hobbit trilogy.Additionally, Jackson had significantly more time to write the screenplay for the LotR films before filming them. In contrast, he had to write the script for the last Hobbit film as they were filming it. They even had to stop filming at one point to allow him to finish writing because the story was incomplete! Jackson has admitted that this film in particular was rushed and, as a consequence, narratively weak.Hence, the LotR films benefitted from having better source material to draw on, a richer story to adapt into a trilogy of films and more time available to write the screenplay. For the above reasons I'd recommend watching the LotR trilogy FIRST (because it's better). In some ways the situation is similar to the Star Wars films with Episodes 4, 5 and 6 being made first but taking place chronologically after Episodes 1, 2 and 3, which is why some people recommend watching them in chronological order. However, the original trilogy is better than the prequels which followed it and familiarity with this later prequel trilogy is not “required” to enjoy or understand the earlier films, so it's arguably better to watch them in the order they were released.

In what order should I watch The Hobbit and LotR movies in?

The correct order chronologically would be to watch The Hobbit trilogy before watching the LOTR trilogy. The danger of watching it this way would be that the Hobbit trilogy is simply not engaging enough on its own and may turn you off even before you get to the masterpiece that is the LOTR trilogy.I do however recommend that you watch the complete extended editions of the LOTR trilogy as they flesh out the story much more for those who have not read the books.Watch LOTR first in my opinion. It will make The Hobbit much more bearable for you as you will already be a Middle Earth fanboy.

What order to watch Lord of the rings and the hobbit?

The whole 3 Hobbit movies they are making come before the first LOTR movie. Bilbo, (The Hobbit) is in his middle age during the Hobbit, and is a very old Hobbit at LOTR.

Why some of the dwarfs in the new "Hobbit" movie don't look like dwarfs?

Peter Jackson and his crew did flawless jobs in the lord of the rings movies. In the new movie The Hobbit, some of my favorite characters like many are the dwarfs, so far of what they look like is almost the way perfect, recently pictures of the dwarfs came on the web. Almost all of the look perfect, like the dwarfs Oin, Gloin, Bombur, Bifur, Balin and Dwalin. The Dwarfs Nori, Ori and Dori are fine but have minor problems, Nori (he of course has a perfect beard) has a weird looking hair style or hat that he has on him that looks doesn't look right for a dwarf, and then Ori and Dori just don't have long beards. Then the Dwarfs with major problems are Fili, Kili, Bofur, and Thorin. Fili and Kili don't look like dwarfs at all, they look like either Elves or Humans, their size is to huge, their faces look nothing dwarvish, and of course no beard, they got to to change. Bofur, he's so so, just three things wrong, needs be a bit more fat, face isn't dwarvish, and no beard (great moustache though). Thorin is a big debate, what he looks like right now is no doubt unbelievable, but has problems. He has a goatie, which is not right, he is supposed to have a huge beard so big that he could tuck it in his belt. Another thing is his size, his size makes him look like a human, and really it doesn't, compare sizes and even the looks with Gimli, the main Dwarf in the lord of the rings series. And like I said, the looks, i've been lokking at what people said about him and they say he looks like a "Klingon" from Star Trek, which in a way I agree. My question is will more and more people see these minor problems and tell Peter Jackson, and hopefully he will fix them? because really, even though they are such little things to pick about, but still they haft to change, if you know what i'm talking about here, somehow please try to get in touch with Peter Jackson and see if he could fix these small things.

Lord of the rings and the hobbit movies order?

Ok, so heres the thing. im about to watch lord of the rings and the hobbit movies and i need to know the order in which to watch them. I know the hobbit movies come first in the story. also, does the new hobbit movie (coming out in december) happen (in the story line) after the other hobbit movies and before the lord of the rings movie?

Do I need to watch LOTR to understand The Hobbit?

As the others said, The Hobbit was written before Lord of the Rings. Tolkien (the author) really didn't intend on writing Lord of the Rings when he wrote The Hobbit and published it in 1937. His publisher had approached him about making more stories pertaining to The Hobbit. Then seventeen years later, in 1954 Tolkien publishes his first installment of Lord of the Rings--The Fellowship of the Ring. I would say it's the other way around: The Hobbit will make it easier to understand the Lord of the Rings.
SPOILER ALERT! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.
And I don't know where you heard about the cast but only certain characters are in The Hobbit AND The Lord of the Rings. The only ones that were in both books were Gandalf, Biblo, Elrond and Gollum. This book takes place 60 years before the events of Lord of the Rings. Most of the cast isn't even BORN yet.
