Which Hypothesis Is Better

What is hypothesis? And how can I identify hypothesis in a psychology research article?

Great question that gets into deep complex issues very quickly. Unfortunately, there’s no simple, step by step identification process. Contrary to commonly held belief, Duhem and Quine showed there are an unlimited number of hypotheses involved with any scientific concept.Which of these is most important, or “counts” is generally taken to be the one stated by the PI or author of the article. In articles written for the general public, this must often be inferred, whereas more formal research reports and papers tend to state “the” hypotheses explicitly. In some cases, Duhem/Quine auxilliary hypotheses are of greater concern, as was my priority last night, 2017–03–09.The situation was a National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Report Release Webinar of “Preparing for Future Products of Biotechnology”. My interest is in the risk that results from restrictions to preventing certain kinds of research.Information and scientific best practice prioritize accuracy, precision, and reliability differently depending on context - especially based on our risk tolerance. Biotech has incredible potential with equally incredible risk. Not very long ago, creating life was a defining characteristic of gods.Lobbying, legislative action, and lawsuits that seek to limit research into relevant facts is generally held to be distinctive of pseudosciences and antiscience. In what appears to be a radical move, the National Academies and some other science groups ignore massive investment to enforce such restrictions in biotech. While minor battles continue, the final consensus on safety and human-caused climate change seems pretty much inevitable, although clearly it is not as decided as safety debates with think of as mostly in the past: tobacco, seat belts, lead, etc.Creationism and astrology are examples which demonstrate when egregious analytical violations are widely acknowledged, resulting hypotheses are held to be invalid. When they confirm vested interests, “invalid” may translate anywhere from mere low reliability from ignorance and mismanagement, to deliberate fraud and/or propaganda.Depending on our goals in identifying their hypothesis, the PI’s intended one may be what we want to focus on. The biotech issue is an example where the auxiliary ones NOT being examined seem much more important. If your position is that the article is wrong, auxiliary hypothesis are very likely where you should focus.

What is the hypothesis on which dissolves better in water-salt or baking soda?

You have to better define your question. Dissolves faster or more goes into solution? Rate would most likely depend on particle size (large crystals of salt vs finely powdered baking soda). Total amount going into solution would depend on the solubility of NaCl and NaHCO3. NaHCO3's solubility is also pH dependent (dissolving baking soda in water versus in vinegar) which too affects its dissolution rate.

What is the difference between Hypothesis and Theory?

What is the difference between theory and hypotheses? In scientific terms;A hypothesis is either a suggested explanation for an observable phenomenon, or a reasoned prediction of a possible causal correlation among multiple phenomena. In science, a theory is a tested, well-substantiated, unifying explanation for a set of verified, proven factors. A theory is always backed by evidence; a hypothesis is only a suggested possible outcome, and is testable and falsifiable. This is quite different from how the term "theory" is used in common parlance, which is closer to the scientific term "hypothesis" or "educated guess".Some people get confused about theories in science and believe they "grow up" to become laws.A law, by contrast;A scientific law generalizes a body of observations. At the time it is made, no exceptions have been found to a law. Scientific laws explain things, but they do not describe them. One way to tell a law and a theory apart is to ask if the description gives you a means to explain 'why'. The word "law" is used less and less in science, as many laws are only true under limited circumstances.Theorynouna supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained.Hypothesisnouna supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation."professional astronomers attacked him for popularizing an unconfirmed hypothesis"Lawnoun(1) An established principle thought to be universal and invariable.(2) A scientific generalization based on empirical observations of physical behavior.Sources:Hypothesis vs Theory - Difference and Comparison What Is a Scientific Law? Hypothesis test for statistics???

Carter Motor Company claims that its new sedan, the Libra, will average better than 21 miles per gallon in the city. Assuming that a hypothesis test of the claim has been conducted and that the conclusion is to reject the null hypothesis, state the conclusion in nontechnical terms.

a. There is sufficient evidence to support the claim that the mean is less than 21 miles per gallon.

b. There is not sufficient evidence to support the claim that the mean is greater than 21 miles per gallon.

c. There is sufficient evidence to support the claim that the mean is greater than 21 miles per gallon.

d. There is not sufficient evidence to support the claim that the mean is less than 21 miles per gallon.
