Which Instagram Filter Do You Like Best For This Picture

Technically, what is it about Instagram's picture filters that can make photos look so much better?

A question that takes us into  photographic composition and image complexity. First off, it's not just Instagram, but many filter effects from Hipstamatic, through Photoshop and other image manipulation applications. If you look at the filters chosen by Instagram and Hipstamatic you'll see there's a trend in the choice, out of the millions of filter effects available. First they retain overall image content - no big rendering effects that disguise the subject or distort its shape or place other shapes e.g. fractals or pyramids onto the image pixels. Identity is retained.Secondly, all the filters distort colours and tones, shifting them more or less from the norm, but by not too much: this adds interest to the image because it removes the image from the obvious, requiring the viewer to work to interpret it. This is one reason black-and-white images seem more satisfying than colour ones. Thirdly, these filters add what I call optical texture through vignetting, shadowing, framing and partial blur: this added texture again increases complexity - it turns a picture of not much into something richer simply because there's more to look at. And the edge effects or framing fills or makes active in what is usually lacking in unskilled compositions - large quiet spaces not doing much work for the image. Finally, we mustn't forget the importance of the square format. In part because it removes one dimension of choice (landscape or portrait), the square format is easier to work with. It's not a filter effect of course, but the format works more easily with vignetting and framing effects than any rectangular format.

How do you add white borders to Instagram pictures?

If you are adding white borders to your Instagram images I am assuming you are doing so because it will allow you to have a good looking theme. There are tons of ways to do this from photoshop to Instagram’s apps alone. However creating the white borders is extremely simple. My personal favorite app that allows you to do this is called Preview. This is how you achieve the borders once you have downloaded the app.Go to your photo editor section of the app and upload the photo you want to add the border to.Now select the photo you want to edit and tap the “Circle” icon.Click on the “Settings” (top left middle button) once you are inside the photo editing software.Select the “Frames” option. (There are tons of options to choose from)Then select either Aura (For a simple white border), Vela (For a vertical border) or Sole (For a horizontal border) or you could try Vela + Sole for a cool looking Instagram feed.Hope this helped and feel free to checkout my profile.

What is the best Instagram filter?

You can find a breakdown of filters used on the most recent 1.6 million photos from Popular via Webstagram here: http://web.stagram.com/hot/It looks like the most popular filter is Earlybird followed by X-Pro II, but filter-less photos make up 47% of the 1.6 million most recent popular photos.Personally, I look for a filter that can provide even exposure, a complimentary tone (if the photo has a lot of cool colors like blue, I want to balance it with a warmer filter, like the tan-tinted Rise) and one that either reduces contrast (like Sierra, Rise or Valencia) or enhances contrast (Like Hudson, Hefe, or Lo-fi) depending on the contrast of my original image.

Can you change an Instagram filter on a pic that has been posted already?

Instagram does not allow you to edit an already posted/published picture. At best you can comment or reply to comments on the picture. So you will not be able to change the filter. If you still have the picture on your phone however, you can upload again and then apply the filter you desire.Instagram will take you through the stage of applying any suitable filter for your picture in the process of posting a picture.

How do I know which filter to apply to which photo on Instagram?

Thanks for A2A!I would say that any picture works the best when it has absolutely NO filter at all. However, let’s not deny it completely that some pictures do look the best with a little tweaking here and there.Don’t go overboard with it though because that would do more harm than good and make your picture look less-appealing.Coming to filters specifically on Instagram, there’s a plethora of them for you to experiment with. It also depends on which picture, in particular, you want to apply the filter on.Some filters work the best on photographs of landscapes while others work the best on portraits, photos of pets, things, etc.Juno is one filter, which works the best on pictures of mere objects. Amaro on the other hand specifically brightens a part of the image while the other part remains dark in comparison. So, it would always depend. From picture to picture, subject to subject, and human to human (since the filter you may like, I may not, and vice-versa) that what filter would look the best on what photo. The only thing to remember is, no filter should take away the original natural essence of an image. It shouldn’t mess up the lighting or exposure of the picture. As long as these aspects are taken care of, go ahead and try whatever filters you want!Hope that helped. :)

Do you have an Instagram worthy photo that has no filter on it?

Downtown San FranciscoTook this one as I was walking across a small bridge to catch a bus. The colors really caught my eye and this is one of my favorite pics I’ve taken with my phone (The only one in this list taken with a phone) just because it’s such a normal setting yet it’s still quite interesting.2. Iwo Jima Memorial in D.C.I really like the silhouette of the soldiers in this pic since it’s a more abstract shot of the memorial and the pose is just iconic.3. Lincoln Memorial in D.C.4. “Green Tunnel” in Kaohsiung, TaiwanI visited Taiwan in the summer of 2017 and took this on a boat ride in the city of Kaohsiung. Throughout the ride it was just a tunnel of green and nature, and sometimes you had to duck to dodge some low branches.5. Times Square in New York CityI went to New York City for a week this past summer (2018) and spent about an hour every night in Times Square, trying to get a unique shot. I eventually decided to try doing a long exposure shot, which is tough considering how bright Times Square is, but I got one of a New York taxi cab going by which I was satisfied with.6. Forth of July fireworks show in San FranciscoI hadn’t tried taking pictures of fireworks before so I decided to give it a go this past Fourth of July. I went down to Gharadelli Square in Fisherman’s Wharf, set up a tripod and snapped away. I didn’t know what to expect but was blown away with the results. (The first picture was taken before the show started)7. Air Show in San FranciscoI’ve previously posted pictures of edited pictures I took at this same show, but this one I left alone since I was satisfied with the contrast of the colors. If you’re interested in more of my photography:Michael Cheng's answer to Can you show some of your photography before and after edits?Michael Cheng's answer to What is the best picture you took from a mobile camera?

Which Instagram filter so you believe makes your photos look the best?

Because every photo you take looks a bit different it would be tough to try and use the same filter on every image. Some filters look great on images with bright highlights or vibrant colors while others are better suited for moodier pictures. With filters, there’s really no one size fits all approach that works for every image and it’s a good idea to try several filters to find the one you like best for each photo. Don’t be afraid to make more advanced changes too; you can always make slight changes to the brightness, contrast, vibrance, etc… and these modifications can really make your images pop.Personally, I like to really customize how an image looks beyond what an Instagram filter allows — I use Adobe Lightroom to edit my images and have several presets that I’ve created. Lightroom resets are a handy way to save time making basic image edits, but just like Instagram filters, there’s no preset which will look perfect for every image — you’ll always need to make some changes to make sure the image looks as good as possible.
