One of the issues with our school system is that it does not cater to the unique, but teaches to a "norm." Students have allot of reasons why they don't perform well in school. For the ones that educators can deal with, here are some ideas of what to do to give those unique students a chance.In my history as a student, I never liked being in a classroom. I felt like I should be doing something else. I felt like I was being tossed into a machine to be packaged. I was too "big" for my packaging, though. No matter how the plastic lessons were stretched, I didn't fit. It was unimaginably frustrating to my parents that I was such a hard student to teach to.Being "that kid," learning how to learn, and making better grades is what has made me an excellent tutor. I'm not just patting myself on the back. I am accredited and awarded for my tutoring techniques. Unfortunately, it's been awhile since I was a teenager and I remember how much public High Schools suck in every imaginable way. The administration are sensitive, politically correct, and extremely paranoid of everything.Allot of High Schools across the US have adopted a program that lets students who have credits to make up take those courses at their own pace in a computer lab. Those types of tutoring centers have tutors of various strengths who come and help students to do learn concepts and do coursework on an individual basis. I have found that students of these courses learn new material at nearly three times faster than they would in a classroom. Plus, they can take even more classes.I wouldn't recommend this for every student because schools don't have the resources to do that. They do, however, have the resources to do that for those exceptions. The thing is, those exceptions can be truly exceptional students, too. Most of them are just not very productive in the classroom, or their home lives prevent them from having the time to accomplish homework, or their home lives are actually too stressful.For everyone with the willingness to learn, there is a method of teaching them.What positive effects, if any, do educators and child development specialists feel children gain from time spent playing Minecraft?You see, even video games can be used to teach. You just have to know what you are teaching students is what will help them learn to be better students.

You should do what will create the overall best situation for you. If you drop the summer tutoring gig, do you have enough money to live on without another job until you start the translation? If yes, follow your heart and prepare for Mandarin translation.If not, you will need to find some other job to support you until you launch your translation career. How good are you at tutoring? If your students are successfully learning, why not use an online website like WyzAnt or the Knowledge Roundtable who will market your services for you to get you students. While WyzAnt takes a commission from you, the Knowledge Roundtable does not. Maybe there are other similar quality websites in your area worth comparing. You can charge a rate that is comparable to your skill and experience. I started out at $35/hr a little over 4 years ago. I'm now up to $50/hr with references and experience, as well as quite a following. You would also control your schedule and your time. That way, you would make more money and still have time to study your Mandarin. Even if you only saw 5 students a week, you would make more than $200/month. Probably double that if you had to pay commission, or almost 4 times that if you didn't. It would be easy money for so few students.Or, find another job that would be easy for you to do 2–3 days a week that would pay around the same amount. Just to fuel you financially, while you study the Mandarin, and get your translation business up and running.The key is to do in the short run, what it takes to make you happy in the long run.
