Which Is Better Being Self Employed Or Employed

Which one is better, to be an employee or be self-employed?

It depends on what type of person you are.. working for yourself is the highest paid hard word, but the lowest paid work if you slack. I am 30 years old. Never worked for anyone. Worked WITH a few people, but never got a salary in my lifePros:I wake up when I am ready.I make my own decisions every single minute of every dayI decide what I should earn (as if I ever get to then number… *sad smiley face*)When I change my mind about something I just go ahead with new plans.I can do whatever I want when I wantIf everything went right for you, you can feel it. That satisfaction cannot be accomplished if you work for someone elseConsI hate month end.. instead of getting money, you have to pay out moneyAll those decisions that you made.. you bear the consequencesIf it was a bad month, you can feel it...There is a lot more. But these are the big ones. I had people working for me, and I tried to give them the same freedom as I enjoy so much.. and some of them quit, and decided to get an 8–5 job with an hour lunch break etc.. some people cannot work without structure.. if you are one of them, go get a job, because people like us, need people like you.I cannot work for someone else. I struggle to follow rules for a long time. I like short cuts, you see. So I am very good at what I do, but if I would need to work for someone else, there is a chance that they will tell me I am no good.and that is not true.Or you can start your own business and fail. (most of them do), but you would have made the best whatever 9–5 job you would choose? In short. There is no such thing as better. But can you handle failure? If you can.. try to open your own business.. but have a 9–5 to pay the bills till you’re on your feet.

Are you or have you ever been self-employed?

Well, I was talking to the owner of a pet supplies shop this very afternoon who said that he'd really be far better off if someone took over his business and employed him at min wage as he works 7 days a week and just keeps afloat.

Is it better to get a job being self employed?

It suits some, it does not suit all, mostly I think it’s a personality thing. As a self employed person you still have to get a job, then another, then another…, you have more freedom and some of that is freedom to not have any income. As an employee of someone else you are (to some degree) protected from these problems but as a consequence you have less freedom.Make your choice.

Is self-employment better than job?

Almost impossible to answer that question in general. It would certainly depend on where you live: USA, EU, ect.If you work in a field like IT and have really useful skills then freelance can be good. In the USA self employment means that you have some freedom. But that can mean freedom to starve. No vacation leave, no sick leave, no health insuranceYou have to do all the things that an entire company would do: marketing, bill collecting, customer service, etc.Plus in most cases the freedom can be an illusion. Everyone is a slave to the customer!I did that for about half of my working life in IT and it was fun but not easy.Working for a company means you have freedom but in exchange you get to share the work with others and you get vacation leave and lots of other benefits including health insurance.Like I said it depends.

What does it mean to be self employed?

It means that you work for yourself and and are not employed by a company. That typically means you are paid as an "independent contractor." The major difference between an independent contractor and an employee is that independent contractors don't get benefits (like health insurance) and the company does not withhold income taxes. (However, you are still liable for these taxes, so you may want to make estimated payments.) In addition, the company does not pay the employer's portion of social security. The independent contractor must pay "self-employment" tax which is approximately double the employee portion of social security tax. Self-employment tax is paid on the income tax return.

Do you think it's better to be self-employed or work as an employee, and why?

Michael Shaw says, it is your personal point of view!I am creative, TOO THE MAX!!! Therefore working for others is a LOSS.They want the credit, they want the money, they want the security....... and in 52 yrs. of self employment actions. I marketed my 1st item in 1962 at 4 yrs old.  Been ripped off so much, that I am amused, because if you feel it is WORTH STEALING, it was a GOOD Thing. That I still prefer to work for me, myself and I. We don't steal from each other.I have so little ego and so creative, I just go create something Else NEW. Don't waste time on worrying WHO is stealing. My payment is the joy of the viewers, not a piece of paper, or some metal, that stuff is everywhere. ARTISTS create, society will mass market what it can and tell you the other people are worthless. I know I do stuff that only 2-5% of the population will like because I am not a "mass market artist"But as many of my businesses have shown, I can sell mass market products, and design mass market productsSo follow what you WANT IN LIFE, and the answer to what and how to be employed will answer itself.

Is being self employed better than working at a corporate job?

Anyone who is familiar with both options could defend either of them. Most of the self-employed people I know, while successful, also made their decision because they like having the last word. My two close friends who are sole proprietors are among the highest-performing people in their fields and have good justification that their product/service is better than the competition. Is it efficiently better or is it mostly better because they spend more to provide the product or service? We’ll never know. It’s a big decision to go on your own. Learn as much as you can about the cost structure of businesses like the one(s) you are considering if you go independent. Profitability isn’t easy to achieve. If you missed or misunderstood 20–30% of the cost elements for a business type, you’re going to have a lot of unhappy surprises. If you have a strong desire to have your own business, you may be unhappy until you at least try that. If you can find a way to transition from where you are now to having a business without creating a period of zero-income, that’s better. A typical example: sometimes people in sales take some of their clients with them when they go solo.

What sounds better on an application form - unemployed or self-employed/freelancer?

Ok I need your personal opinions. I'm unemployed and have been since I left university last May, due to personal problems, and I feel kind of nervous about that now I'm ready to get back into the real world and apply for jobs again. However I have been doing a bit of freelance admin work over the net here and there (ok, like one job...), but when I put 'self-employed' or 'freelancer' into my application form it just looks like a pretentious way of saying 'unemployed'. The jobs I'm applying for are pub jobs and similar, ones where they don't want any experience (I don't have any experience) so, idk is it better to be honest and say 'unemployed' rather than 'self-employed'? Cause there's also the fear that they will immediately reject unemployed people, because unemployed people OBVIOUSLY have something wrong with them/are lazy/bad people with a bad work ethic ;)

Is being self employed better than working for others, or vice versa?

This is a awesome question!!!  Thank-you for asking it.It is not that one is better then the other.  The real secret to sucess is finding out what kind of person you are so you can find the right kind of work for yourself.  It is this decision that will bring you true fortune.Let me explain.  There really is nothing like owning your own business.  The sense of accomplishment is incredible, along with the freedom to make your own hours.  Feeling that everyday is limitless.  But remember there is an old saying that goes with self-employment.  “If working for yourself was easy, everyone would do it.”  Self-employment leaves you holding the bag, you are responsible for your own future, good or bad.  Not only that, the livelihoods of your employee(s), if you are lucky enough to have grown your little business to that level.  The higher you make it up the food chain, the more responsibly you must shoulder.Or you could work for someone.  You don't have to worry about sales or what the currency values are.  Or whether you buy from outside the county looking for cheaper suppliers, or you sell to other companies outside your country and now you must lay people off to cover the cost of the losing dollar.  When you choose to work for another, you simply have to clock in and clock out and enjoy your weekend with your family.  But remember, if you do go this path your very livelihood, as well as your family, will be left to the whim of suit types that are only concerned about how much money the shareholders are going to make next quarter. Now check this out. If a “self employed guy” takes a job for someone else, it will truly drive them insane. They will go crazy at the fact they cannot run with any idea and slowly they will start to shut down in job as well as in their life. Now if a “guy punching a clock” hits the lotto and buys his old factory for shits and giggles also just to the see the look on his bosses face…this individual will not last a minute in the spot light of running a company, with everyone looking to him for answers. The presser is incredible.Long and the short is there are  so many factors in the question.  All I can help you with is showing you the different paths and allowing you to pick the right one based on your personality.Beware, this is not an easy choice.
