Which Is Better Public School Or Homeschool

What's better homeschool or public school?

Hewwo ^_^ I'm Janie and I am in the 8th grade.
For every school year up until this year, I was homeschooled my whole life, I didn't mind it because I could wake up any time I wanted, Get dressed whenever I wanted, Less projects, and less hours of school every day (Hehe, makes me sound spoiled, I promise im not snotty D;! XD)
The downside to homeschool is not being to see your friends as often as in public school, which wasnt a problem for me because I kept up with visiting my friends regularly, but I don't know, everybodies schedule is different.
As long as you have a parent to help you with your work when needed, homeschool is a great choice ^^ (sorry if i worded that weird, im not sure if your a parent looking to put your kid in homeschool or public school or just a kid asking which is better) My mom used to work at nights so i had plenty of help from her, but now shes in college trying hard to own her own preschool so I'm now in public school. Public school is pretty fun though, the only thing is, i'm still getting used to sitting in classrooms 8 hours a day with so many kids being distracting @_@.. I'm used to no distractions at all and just getting stuff over with xD Anyways, I guess homeschool if your looking for getting things done without being distracted and public school if you like to hangout and talk to friends lots :D

So if you like to socialize and don't mind a few distractions, totally public school

and if you have friends you can visit often with at the movies or just whatever to keep in contact, and you like to get passed homework in the silence and on your own, (or maybe a parent to help) homeschool :P

Is public school better than homeschooling?

No. The education system is so so soooo messed up. It's made to brainwash you. Who cares if you have fewer friends as a homeschooler. Perhaps it's just the small, insignificant price to pay to escape becoming one of the governments pawns.
When you become an adult, your situation will be just as it would if you went to public school only you'll have more of a future to look towards. That is, if you actually "get it done" at home.
School isn't about friends and social life. It's about growing your knowledge and wisdom. Learning to become a critical thinker.
I enrolled into a charter school for 8th and 9th grades and it was terrible. I was given the same sort of work I would've been given at a public school. In 8th grade I quite reading books outside of school work since i hadn't the time. In 9th grade the workload increased and I quite drawing and skating too. I got this weird condition from inactivity even though i did the required exercise for P.E. My only escape was on the weekends. I got super anxious and depressed sensations on sunday nights cause I realized heaven was over.
I could've gotten more A's if I didn't turn stuff in late and/or incomplete. I even had to drop foreign language since I didn't put in the required hours. I was like "Screw that!" But over all I still some how managed to get A's and B's on my report card.

Im homeschooled. Ive made some memories, had some fun, have some friends, etc.. Ive gotten to stand on the iron guts of a piano, take part in house flipping, been snowboarding multiple times on week days, gone to a skate park in the mountains with my older brother and his friends getting back around 1 am since I didn't need to be at school the next day, been camping with friends, stayed out until 5:30 am, playing roller hockey on sunday nights, and handful of other events. Though I'll admit, the previously listed are only the highlights of my 1st year of highschool, this summer, and a month into my second year of hs.

You can have a heck lot of fun as a homeschooler. You just got to look for it. And surprisingly, for me, it was within a group of friends at church 0.o …If you're looking for fun, then look everywhere. Be social and get involved.

How is home schooling better than a public school?

Not necessarily.

In the United States, homeschooling can be an option for parents who wish to provide their children with a quality of education they believe is unattainable in schools. At present, however, most children are institutionally schooled.

Families that homeschool in the USA are quite different demographically. 94% are non-Hispanic whites (compared to 71% nationwide). 97% of parents are currently married. (compared to 72%) 62% have 3 or more children (compared to 20%). Nearly all the mothers are stay-at-home housewives. 58% are Fundamentalist in religion (compared to about 10%) 64% of fathers have college or postgraduate degrees (compared to 24%) Average income was $52,000 in 1997, (compared to $36,000)

Thus the profile is a group of well educated, high income white parents with several children and a possible strong commitment to fundamentalist religion.

Opposition to home education comes from varied sources, including organizations of teachers and school districts. One example is the National Education Association, a teachers' union, which is the largest labor union in the United States. They are on record as opposing homeschooling outright; though, in recent years they have not been as outspoken in this opposition. Opponents state concerns falling into several broad categories, including: academic quality and completeness; reduced government money for the publicly-run schools; socialization of children with peers of different ethnic and religious backgrounds; and fear of religious or social extremism. Gallup polls of American voters have shown a significant change in attitude in the last twenty years, from 73% opposed to home education in 1985 to 54% opposed in 2001 [10].

Opponents view home-educating parents as sheltering their children and denying them opportunities that are their children's right, reducing the amount of government funds publicly-run schools would receive if more children were attending the publicly-run school, and providing an unfair advantage to home-educated children over students whose parents lack the time or money for home education. With regard to the latter point, however, parents choosing to homeschool often intend that to be the case.

Is public school or homeschooling better for you and why?

I am a high schooler who has been have been homeschooled my whole life-That being said life couldn't get any better for me! You may be thinking "Oh, so she doesn't know anything about public school ". Well, I know PLENTY of public schoolers, most of whom go on and on about hating school, you don't hear much of that from homeschoolers! My one friend in particular, who went to public school then became homeschooled last year, once stated How her teachers would curse at her, her teachers do not explain anything thoroughly,How much time is wasted in the classroom waiting for other students to catch up, and how many bullies there were and teachers not doing anything about them etc.  So anyway here is my list of  why I believe Homechooling is the better choice over public school:1. You are not exposed to cursing and bullies each and everyday.2. You work at your own pace.3.Studies show homeschoolers have a better understanding of the material/get higher grades than the average public schooler4. You have more family time and bonding (being in the same house all day with eachother)5. For everyone who thinks homeschoolers are "unsocialized" I, along with most homeschoolers participate in a homeschool Co-op, as well as sports, clubs and theater, scouts, etc,  So I would definetly not call homeschoolers "unsocial".6. You don't have to take God out of everything like the pledge of allegiance for example (really?). Whatever religion you are you can include that in your day. 7. Homeschoolers get more work done in a shorter amount of time than public schoolers, who waste so much time in a school day.8. Homechool schooldays are more flexible which means We can have a part time job and still do our schoolwork later in the afternoon. I for one babysit and petsit, for a lot of people cause they don't know many others who can help them out in the morning hours. So we get lot of jobs and make alot of money (Ka-ching!), while still getting a good education.9. And last, people may say "Homeschoolers are cut off from the world." I believe it is actually the other way around, the public schoolers who sit in classrooms 8hrs a day 5 days a week. Since when did one classroom become the "real world" How much more cut off could you get!The list just goes on and on but I didn't come here to write a book! lol

Should I go to a public school or homeschool?

I can't make this decision for you, so I'm not going to pretend to.  What I am going to do is lay out the two sides of your dilemma:Public school You would be in a large group of peopleYou would have lots of class optionsBUTYou would enter school mid-semester, where it's more difficult to make friendsYou would be entering classes that may not be on the same topics as your old classes (either ahead or behind)HomeschoolYou would no longer be stuck with the same two classmatesYou would have space to study when and how you learn bestBUTIt can be pretty lonely to homeschool without joining an established groupYou may fall behind without someone personally keeping you accountable for your studiesStaying at your current schoolYou would keep your studies consistentYou get personal attention from your small school's teachers and peersBUTYou will probably hate going to school everyday You might regret staying as long as you have

Homeschool vs Public School?

@ Donnie Porko- yes, many homeschoolers are socially awkward BUT many of them are not. We have computers, tv, magazines, friends from church and other places. We are not socially awkward at all. My oldest brother has a great job where he has tons of friends, he is taking college classes where he jas a bunch of friends and he has a very serious relationship with his GF. I hav a part time waitressing j job where I interact with very many types of people. I'm a very small girl and I get picked on a lot about my size lol.... Homeschoolers DO get bullied esp by people who are ignorant about homeschool. We have jobs, we help with groceries, we pay our phone bills, we run errands, we know how to do everyday chores. Everyday is another day to learn an essential life skill and homeschoolers have a ton of time to learn it and use it. We are very prepared for the "real world"

Which is better? Homeschooling or Public Schooling?

I think all parents early on should have a plan as to what their goals are as parents. In my opinion the two best things I can provide my children is good health and a good education. It kills me when people just expect the government to provide these things for them. What greater gift can you give a kid than at 18 to have options?

I homeschool but I do not recommend that all people should. It works for us. I know lots of kids who have gotten an amazing education through public schools from teachers who loved their jobs and genuinely cared about the kids. The main difference in that the parents took an active role in their upbringing and provided a lot of supervision and support. It is not a teacher’s job to educate your child. They have them for 9 months and then pass them on. You are the consistent force in their education.

I personally went to private school and received an amazing education. I felt like I had to reprogram some of my beliefs after high school. I totally had a superiority complex that I was smarter then public schooled kids. What a shocker when I got to college. I think it was partially my parents influence. I see this problem with homeschool kids as well. If you shelter kids to where they are always in the same peer group, you are doing your kids a great disservice. What happens when they are competing in the job market with people who are different then them? For that reason, I keep my kids involved in lots of different social groups. I heavily monitor them so I remain the number one force in their belief system.

I don’t think the question in my mind is if homeschooling is better. I have seen kids that have gotten a lousy education because their parents never should have attempted homeschooling. I think the main issue is what influence a parent is in a child’s life. We should always put what is best for the kid in front of our motives. If I can maintain a relationship with my kids that they respect me so much they will do their best not to disappoint me then I have succeeded. If my kids feel I am the one they should turn to no matter how bad of situation they are in then I have succeeded.

Do you think public school or homeschool is better for your children?

Public school definitely. I dont think home schooling is really good for kids both academically and in socal development. Homeschooli1ng is usually taught by a parent. Is the parent a teacher? Probably not. People sometimes think they can teach their child as well as a professional teacher. They aren't trained in instructional strategies. Middle and high school teaching requires a person to really know content area like algebra physics etc. Most lay people don't know subjects like algebra and physics at all let alone to the level of expertise reqired to teach them. Also especially with elementary age kids social skills are very important. Kids learn to socialize by interacting with kids their own age and people besides parents and siblings. They cant do that being homeschooled.

Should I go to school or be homeschooled? Which is better?

Going to school will consume more time than homeschooling but if you get stuck in any subject you have may people to ask for help especially teachers. But homeschooling will consume less time and you would have enough time to learn according to your own routine.I would recommend going to school because that would keep you physically and mentally active and you can ask for help from more people this way plus when you come home you can revise and learn the things explained at school.
