Which Is Better To Achieve Growing Hair Out Longer

If you are aiming to grow your hair out longer, should you still get a haircut and what is the purpose of doing so?

I had just experienced that this winter.  I was growing out my hair but when I asked for a trim at the salon, my stylist cuts off inches away which was 3-months worth of growth.  When you're growing your hair out, you'll still need to trim it.  Most people cannot do it by themselves, but if you're confident in your ability, trim it.  If not, still get someone professional to do it.  But you'll specially need to ask for a trim, not a cut.  Tell them you only want half an inch or a quarter inch.  The thing is, once you get a trim, it's very subtle to notice, but it's worth it.  Otherwise, your hair is just gonna look like a mob which isn't a problem if you can hide it with a hat or something.  That's what I did in this past winter, I hid my hair in a hat for months.

How to make my hair grow longer, faster?

About a year, maybe even two, ago I had LONG hair but for some reason I cut it to my shoulders. I am 14 now and its only like 4 inches longer than when I got it cut a year ago. I get my hair trimmed regularly though. I've read that exercise and healthy foods help hair growth. I am in a strength && conditioning class for school that I go to every morning at 6 so the exercise part is covered but I love junk food. I have a high matabalism (sp?) so I only weigh about 105 and I can eat all the junk food I want. I want to know what kinds of food to get (fruits, veggies, meat) But I HATE fish so don't worry about putting that. I have vitamin e pills and prenatal vitamins that i've heard help keep nutrients in your body. I want to know which one works best for healthy hair. I haven't been taking any cause I keep forgetting but I don't want to take both, only one. So the questions I need answered are "Which kinds of food should I get for healthy hair?" && "Which pill is best for healthy hair, vitamin e or prenatal.?"

How can I grow my hair longer, NOT thicker?

Hi XD,

Sorry to hear of your frustration. Also sorry to say that you are not much going to like the answer. Hair is a fairly exact science called trichology. Hair grows almost exactly half an inch per month, and a little slower if there are health, medication, or nutritional issues present.

So do make sure you are taking an inexpensive daily vitamin such as Flintstones or One A Day. Don't waste your money on super vitamins. They will not do a better job. You can't put 20 gallons in a ten gallon tank, and too many vitamins can even be toxic and dangerous. Do make sure your vitamin contains zinc and biotin. These promote hair growth, but not beyond what nature will allow.

As to length, hair only grows as long as genetically possible. The thicker your hair shaft is, the longer the hair can grow before it breaks off. Once it hits its maximum length, that's it.

Please save yourself money and do not waste it on products that do not, and cannot work.

Lastly, avoid tight things in or on your hair, such as rubber bands, hats, and so on, or braiding hair. These all create hair breakage, and that is the last thing you want or need.

Growing hair out?

I have thick hair and I am trying to grow it out at present.

My hair has a tendency to get very bushy and I end up cutting it short again,
What is the best way to make it look less bushy as I would really like to give it a go this time around.
My hair is about 3" long all over and I would like to grow it so that I can get it bobbed eventually

How often should you trim your hair if you're growing it out long?

The correct answer depends on how well you take care of your hair. If you don't put alot of color on your hair you can go 6 months without trimming it. Your correct. In order to really grow your hair out you need to give it time to grow. It's true healthy hair is important but most people make the mistake of "trimming" it way to often thus no growth and it never will at a rate of ever 6 weeks or so. I deal with this everyday being a stylist who specializes in long hair. Another thing is try not to blow dry your hair and that will help the condition of your hair as well. Most of my clients will go at least 4-6 months some even longer without a trim (trim meaning no more than an inch) and their hair always looks great. Funny because people who fall under the 6 week trim rule will ask them how does your hair grow so fast and they will respond "I don't cut it". LOL!!!!! Good luck!

How long does it take to grow long hair?

Depends on what kind of hair we're talking about. You'll have stubble in a day or two. Head hair will take a month or so to grow back out to a short length, and most likely years to grow out long. For body hair, it'll be undetectable that it was ever shaved in three to four weeks.Hair Usually grows approximately 6 inches a year, so in a week, it would be about an 8th of an inch, a half inch in a month and 6 inches in a year. Other variables would also be that hair grows more in the summer than the winter in the colder regions.A few things that you can do to ensure that your hair follicle remains healthy and your hair is undamaged so it grows the quickest it can, are:Take an inexpensive daily multi vitamin such as ‘ One-A-Day’ or even ‘Flintstones.’ Your hair likes zinc and biotin and both of the above mentioned vitamins contain ample amounts of these. Don’t waste your hard earned money on ‘Super Vitamins.’ Your body only requires so many vitamins per day and simply discharges the excess. You can’t put twenty gallons in a ten gallon tank. In some instances, over dosing on supplements can actually be fatal.Do not brush your hair. With every stroke you damage your hair more. Brush only as much as you need to style your hair, then stop.Buy a good quality brush or comb without a sharp plastic or metal ridges. This is one of the common factors leading to split ends. as is over brushing.Don’t be penny foolish. Buy good quality salon products. The chemicals used in many if not most over the counter shampoos and conditioners, contain very harsh ingredients such as ‘ammonuim laurel sulfate’ which can actually dry your hair out, and cause breakage and split ends. Even worse, many contain a form of silicon, and that can be very bad for your hair.Don’t consist your hair with tight bands, hats, braids and the like. These also lead to split ends and hair breakage. You can find out more, see this blog.

How to grow your hair faster! ?

This may seem gross but trust me it works. This is especially good if you don't want to pay a ridiculous amount for store bought products. You want to take a big bowl and mix the following:
Milk (provides Vitamin D)
Orange Juice ( Vitamin C)
Flour ( Vitamin E)
Mayonnaise (Essential nutrients)
Peanut butter

After you have mixed this you want to apply it to your hair and let it sit for a good 15 minutes. You want to make sure you rub the mixture into your scalp. Make sure you follow all of the ingredients, this is legitimate. I used it on my daughter and her hair is down past her waist. It grew from her shoulders to her waist in about a week.
Good luck, Hope it helps.
