Does taking Magnesium help with anxiety?

Magnesium does help and so does vitamin D. Best way is to use magnesium oil on our skin or soak in a bath with magnesium chloride salt.

I will take one dose of 10,000 IUs of vitamin D if I think I need something to pick me up. Some folks will take as much as 50,000 IUs at once but you should not do that on a regular basis without medical supervision and without knowing your vitamin D levels.

Is magnesium good for anxiety?

Does Magnesium Work for Anxiety?Well, maybe… as with most natural options, the research is slim. While small in numbers, there are a handful of promising studies suggesting magnesium can help anxiety and stress. For those struggling with a magnesium deficiency, various side-effects are common that can intensify anxiety and stress. The impact of magnesium for anxiety relief isn’t entirely known, but studies suggest a link between magnesium deficiency and anxiety related symptoms.2There have even been case studies of individuals who suffered with depression and severe anxiety who tried common pharmaceuticals (such as Lithium) without success, who then had major improvements by taking a magnesium glycinate supplement. Who would have thought?Magnesium may counter stress by binding to and stimulating GABA receptors 3. GABA (Gamma-aminobutyric acid) is a neurotransmitter that helps send messages between the brain and the nervous system. Its main function is to limit the activity of cells in the nervous system. In other words, it helps keep the brain from getting overexcited. Low GABA levels are commonly associated with the “tired but wired” feeling.Magnesium can lead to better, higher quality sleep 4. Getting poor sleep is a known contributor to anxiety, so if you are having trouble getting to sleep each night, magnesium just may provide the help you need.Magnesium plays a major role in calming the nervous system due to its ability to block brain N-methyl D-aspartate receptors (NMDA), thereby inhibiting excitatory neurotransmission.5 Again this helps keep the brain from getting over stimulated.Another interesting study found that magnesium increased neuroplasticity in rats, leading to eliminating fear related memories without impacting the original memory.Full article and sources here- Magnesium for Anxiety - Does it Work? | Mindful Searching

Magnesium oxide and migraines, anxiety, etc?

I get horrible migraines, have ridiculous anxiety at times, among a few of the other symptoms I read could be due to a magnesium deficiency, so I decided to buy a bottle of supplements to try and see if they helped any. They're 250 mg I believe, so below the recommended daily dosage, but I don't want to go overboard and take too much.

I read also though that it's best to consume it in magnesium citrate form? or something like that.

i read the bottle, and it says it's magnesium oxide form.

would I still get the same benefits from it in this form?

Do you use Magnesium for anxiety and how does it help you?

I have been struggling with a pretty rough bout of anxiety the past few weeks with all of the lovely physical symptoms, racing heart beat, shortness of breath, irritability, lightheadedness etc. I am against taking any kind of SSRI for my anxiety for my own personal reasons and have started going to therapy, but I want a natural supplement that can help as well. My boyfriend takes something called magnesium glycinate and he said it works really well for him. Do any of you use this? Does it actually help you? Any side effects?

Is it ok to take magnesium supplements while taking Zoloft for anxiety?

I've not heard of a contraindication.Folks call me the "Mag Nag," becasue I'm always preaching about this vitally important mineral and how most Americans are deficient. So, you do need magnesium. And if you're deficient, you should address it.  Too much calcium without enough magnesium can cause a host of problems, including stiff muscles, poor sleep, and yes, probably even anxiety. In the sense that magnesium helps you to relax.Magnesium is also thought to be a norepinephrine precursor (building block). And norepinephrine is kissing cousins with serotoinin, the neurochemical we think of most when we think of anxiety (but of course it's more complicated).

Chelated magnesium oxide is effective for anxiety?

hi ive been searching a lot for a magnesium deficiency as a cause of my anxiety

recently i order a chelated magnesium (it states that chelated magnesium are one of the best magnesium types to be absorb and the poorly absorb ones is the magnesium oxide)

but the chelated magnesium that ive order states on its back that its a magnesium oxide as chelated magnesium.

do you think is also same as magnesium oxide the one that is poorly absorb?

How can I know if my anxiety disorder is related to magnesium deficiency without examinations?

There are few people in the world who despise going to the doctor more than I. And I can completely understand that you don’t wish to be poked and prodded over what could simply be just a deficiency that could easily be treated. If this was something as simple as a rash, or being a little tired, or maybe your muscles were more sore than usual, I would tell you to take a supplement that you can get from Walmart - preferably Nature Made (as they are one of the few recommended and noted for having REAL ingredients). However, in this case, you are discussing what could be a mental illness. This could be one of several very common deficiencies - not just magnesium - or it could be a real mental illness. I think your very best option is to go and get a blood test. If it is a deficiency - FANTASTIC - they will prescribe you a pill that comes from a real drug company that is HONESTLY ALL VITAMIN/MINERAL and you can get it treated. There is a reason I don’t take Vitamin D supplements over the counter, and only get it from my doctor. If it is a mental illness, there are a wide variety of options (MANY that are not addictive, that are as gentle and safe - safer actually than taking a Benadryl allergy pill) for treatment. I understand your concern, I do, but in this case I think you should see a physician. If you are determined not to…be sure to use a reputable vitamin/mineral company like Nature Made for supplements. You can always increase the magnesium rich foods you eat, but the majority of humans should already be getting their daily dose of vitamins and minerals in our diets and if you have a deficiency there might be something else causing it. Generally a supplement is needed.
