Which Laptop Should I Get For College

What laptop should I get for college?

I would recommend looking for a thin and light laptop. Current ultrabooks can easily handle all your school requirement. With a light laptop, you get more portability to take it any where. Your backpack will get so much more lighter.A good battery life is always helpful. You don’t want to search a seat next to power plugs in class. In terms of configuration, I will definitely buy one with SSD and highest RAM I can afford.

Mac laptop or PC laptop for college?!?!?

I'm not sure which one I should get for college. I grown up using a PC but Macs seem to be very user friendly and I can get to learn how to use it.
If I get a mac laptop, which one should I get? Macbook or Macbook Pro?
Or if I get a pc laptop, which brand would you recommend?

price range: $800-$1000 would be ideal

my major for college: Biochemistry/Cell Biology

What kind of laptop should I get for college?

To me, it comes to two things:does your college have a requirement for a specific type of configuration? some do, most don’t, if yours does, you’ll want to conform with that. Same with departments within the university - some have specific software that you’ll be expected to run, and you’ll want to be able to do that.budget. how much do you have to spend? I mean, you know, the sky’s the limit out there, and the floor seems to be about $300 for a new laptop (in spite of David Ecale’s generally excellent advice, I would not recommend a used laptop, given that you’re asking this question; if you knew enough to be able to deal with upkeep on an older model, you’d know enough to know the answer already). There’s a pretty good review of cheap laptops here -> The Best Cheap Laptops of 2017After that, it’s all about personal preference. Mostly.Owning a Mac will greatly simplify your life in a vast number of ways. Yes, Macbooks are more expensive than other laptops, but odds are good that the new Macbook you buy now will still be rocking strong when you graduate; odds are not in favor of that with plastic-bodied units from other manufacturers, nor Windows laptops in general due to “software bloat”.Screen size is a big deal to some people, less so to others. Same with having versus not having a DVD drive on the laptop. Same with other size factors.Pro tip: lightness matters if you’re taking it everywhere with you.Second pro tip: Don’t Take Notes with a Laptop - use a pad and pen instead. (seriously, read the article, fascinating stuff)Good luck. We live in a time where there are frankly no really bad choices, just varying degrees of optimal for your personal use case.

Which laptop should I get for college (Comp Sci)?

Do you have a very tight budget? Are you planning to run artificial intelligence programs or something that consumes a ton of CPU and memory (simple java programs or web applications don’t count)? If not, go for a Macbook Air. If you are not on a tight budget and you do plan to run some pretty heavyweight code, go for the Macbook Pro.I’ve spent thousands on windows laptops (from all manufacturers - HP, Dell, Lenovo - you name it) that look stunning on paper (I always went with the highest specs too), but I’ve never seen one run well after a year or two. Not to mention the notorious stability of Windows operating systems.Another point to note is that Macs come with a Unixy terminal which is extremely helpful if you are thinking of becoming a programmer. You can install cygwin on a windows PC and do everything possible to make it pretend like a Linux system, but it’s not the same. For a large portion of my life, I’ve been arguing against Macbooks and their costs, but now, I’d buy nothing but a Mac. Money well spent.

What's a good laptop for college?

I'm thinking about getting the Dell XPS 15 9560. Whatever laptop I want to get will likely be the only laptop I will use throughout my college education so I want it to last. I do play some games and this laptop seems to be able to play them. My parents suggest I get the newest MacBook but that's because seemingly everyone has a MacBook in college.

Which laptop should I get for college? Chromebook?

Chromebook would be a perfect fit!

- Thin and sleek. You'd need to pay over $1000 for such a form factor for an Apple.
- Long battery life!
- Simplicity - no apps to install or anti-virus to run.
- Tons of web applications, especially Google Docs (or other similar apps like Microsoft Office 360). The added advantage is, everything's saved online and you don't need to worry about backups. You can access your docs anywhere and from any computer.
- Note though, currently Google Docs has no offline support yet (but is coming). When I go anywhere without wifi, I use the simple ScratchPad application that works offline and syncs to Google Docs.
