Which Make Better Apartment Pets

Will I get caught with pets in my apartment?

The apartment I am looking into allows pets, but they charge outrageous deposits and extra rent per month. I have two cats. I am wondering if when I sign the lease I say I don't have pets to avoid paying the deposit and extra rent. It's an apartment complex run by a corporation so the only people coming into my apartment will be maintenance and how are they supposed to know I said I don't have pets on my lease? Will this work? Anyone get away with it before?

Cats versus Dogs as Apartment Pets?

Definitely get a cat. It is not fair to keep a dog cooped up in an apartment, even if you do take him for walks. Cats are very independent animals, so if you're at work or school all day it won't get too upset. But they still do greet you when you get home, like dogs do. They're very loving animals.

Please consider getting a cat from an animal shelter. There are a lot of them and they need a good home. You can find kittens there, too, if that's what you're looking for - but remember, the older the cat is, the less likely he'll be adopted. So if you don't mind getting one that's a few years old, that'd be a great thing to do. Cats live quite a while, so make sure you three are prepared to take care of him for years. I have a 14 year old cat right now, and I know some live up to 20 years.

Remember moving to a new home can be stressful, so whenever you do get the cat make sure there's a place for him to hide. It's nothing personal, but he'll feel much safer if he has a box to hide in or else he'll probably dash under your couch for a few hours. Soon enough he'll come out, explore, and meet you. It shouldn't take him long to be running around and playing.

Also, wherever you do get it - ask them what type of food they give them. Some cats are picky and will only eat certain brands. This is at least important when he's getting used to his new home...you don't want to stress him out unnecessarily!

If you're worried about the furniture, try stopping by Walmart or Target and looking in the pet aisle. We bought this corrugated cardboard scratching pad (it lies on the floor, instead of being a post) for my cat and she LOVES it. Probably because it has catnip inside, lol. She's never scratched the furniture.

If you're getting the cat to help aid the mouse problem, just be aware that you might wake up with a decapitated mouse outside your bedroom door. Gross, but true. They'll think of it as a "gift" to you. Your cat might not actually kill the mice, though. My cat never hurts a mouse, she just plays with them. She'll pick them up and carry them around, but soon enough it'll squirm out of her mouth and she'll chase it again! It's good though if you can get her to bring it to you so you could put it in a box and transport it outside. Much nicer than waking up to a dead mouse on the floor.

Are ferrets good pets for small apartments?

No, sorry.Firstly, you’ll need more than one ferret. They’re social creatures, and need the companionship of their own.Secondly, those ferrets will need a run. You won’t house-train them. The best you can hope for is that you can persuade them to use a litter tray placed where they decide to poo. More likely, they’ll eschew it, and find somewhere better to poo instead. Rinse (the carpet) and repeat, indefinitely. So a run is needed. And it’s got to be big. There are some ideas on this page. To my mind, they’re a little on the small side for a pair of ferrets, but these are definitely a minimum. Depending upon how small the apartment is, it might not be practical at all. Finally, the elephant (poo) in the room…smell. There’s no getting around it, if you keep ferrets indoors, you’re going to have to get used to a pretty powerful pong. It’s not so much the ferrets themselves—they smell anything from honey-nut cornflakes through to not-unpleasantly musky—it’s their poo. And when I say there’s no getting around it, I mean it. The smell will pervade your apartment. Friends will walk in, look increasingly uncomfortable, and eventually suggest eating out. As soon as you’ve cleaned their run, and removed the source of the smell, they’ll provide more. The best you can hope for is to avoid it getting out of control and having the neighbours call Environmental Services, assuming someone’s passed away a month ago.Ferrets are best kept outdoors. If not outdoors, then somewhere with enough volume to keep the pong to manageable levels.

Which one is better for apartments, cats or dogs?

There are many dogs who can happily live in an apartment. That being said, there is also no doubt that, generally speaking, cats are much more adaptable to apartment life. Unless you are living in New York City in an apartment the size of a normal person’s closet, a cat is able to get plenty of exercise, and find plenty to amuse itself, without going outside.Litter boxes. Cats don’t have to be taken outside to deal with bodily necessities. Dogs, even small dogs, do.If you leave sufficient food and fresh water, you can leave cats home alone for a weekend. Dogs…. no.

Do sugar gliders make good apartment pets?

Hello :)
My boyfriend and I live in a very pet friendly apartment, and already have a couple of pets. However, I have been researching and wanting a pair of suger gliders for a few years now.
We have an extra room in our apartment where we'd have plenty of space to set up a gaint cage for them.
My boyfriend is worried that they will keep us or the people in the downstairs apartment up at night even with the doors closed.
Does anyone have them for pets and live in an apartment? Are they okay apartment pets, or should I wait a few more years untill we get a house to get them?
Oh and please, I don't need anyone to write me a novel on how to take care of them - I already know :) I've done tons of research and also took care of a pair at an animal shelter before.
Basically I just want experience on how they do living in this kind of setting, and if people think they would be to loud to keep in an apartment.
Thanks!

Do Guinea pigs make good apartment pets?

I think they make great apartment pets, we have one (and i 3 growing up) you CAN keep males and females together (in the wild they would live in packs, 1 male with up to 9 females) you can keep a male with a female but have the male nutered so you dont get any unwanted pregnancies. They dont smell (mine dont and niether do any of my friends guinea pigs, in total i know 12 guinea pigs in 8 different homes and none of these homes smell) the main smell is the Hay but its not strong and its not a bad smell at all, just a pet smell. People often think guinea pigs smell, this is just a bad rumour and some people will get unlucky and maybe get a rare one that smells stronger than others (but actually a strong bad smell is a sign of ill health and it needs to be taken to a vet) i clean my guinea pigs cage once a week (unless he had made a bigger mess than normal i will clean it more, but once a week is the norm) they get plenty of excersize in an apartment when you let them out (and they are better inside as they are small and the cold effects them and so does the heat, so its best for them inside) and no you can most certainly get just 1 at a time, i have just 1 and he is not depressed at all, they are sociable creatures so they do need to be played with everyday, but while your at work or whatever they are just fine in their cage with a few toys. they do like their cuddles and it may take a few months for them to get truely comfortable with you but this is normal, just be gentle and patient and you will gain their trust. good luck i think you will be very happy with your guinea pig :D

Will pet rats make my apartment smell bad??

First of all, good bedding can make all the difference, I use Soft-Sorbant, which comes in naturally scented versions, Lavender and Mint, but Carefresh is also a good bedding, and comes in lots of pretty colors :) Also, rats do not smell bad if you clean the cage regularly, but females are less likely to smell as much, as they do not mark their territories as much as males, and eat less, thus producing less waste. Second of all, ventilation is key, wire cages are best, and to rid cages of smell after cleaning, use a 1 part bleach to 10 parts water cleaning solution, or 1 part apple cider vinegar, 3 parts water, it works quite well :) Good luck, and I hope you choose rats, as they are awesome pets, very smart and cuddly :D

Why are cats considered the best apartment pets?

They make better use of the space provided, are less likely to wake the neighbours, and require less excercise. This is compared to dogs, though, and assuming that what you’re talking about is a city apartment, and the setting is one with not too much time on your hands.I live in a small apartment, and though I have access to nearby parks and mountain trails I don’t know if keeping a dog here would be nice for it. The walls are relatively thin too, so if I had a loud animal chances are my neighbours would be bothered (I have zero discipline where pets are concerned, so training a dog to be silent is beyond my abilities). In addition I have a loft with ladder access. Cat loves climbing up there and sitting on the beam judging me. Because he’s a cat he can use whatever extra crevices are in my apartment to his leisure, which a dog could not.

What is the best apartment pet for no pet apartments?

I live in a college apartment that does not allow pets at all but the girlfriend and I are going to break the rules anyway. What would be a great pet that is cuddly and fun but won't make so much noise that we will get caught? We were looking into a Sugar Glider but I read they make really loud noises and you have to get them in pairs or they get depressed easily. Are they loud enough to make the neighbors hear? Basically we don't want a big animal such as a cat or a dog and we don't want a small one such as some fish, a turtle, or a bird. Thanks in advance. We don't get our apartment checked without a 24 hour notice because it isnt run by the college (such as a dorm or something), we are more worried about the animal not making a bunch of noise.

What are the rules for pets in apartments in Bangalore?

Well there is no law which says you can not own a pet in an apartment but most of the times these apartment association put such notice on the board and ask you not to have a pet in the house. Since its your own house, they have no right to ask you to get rid of your pet. Just go and file a complain, give them a copy of it and just ask them to mind their business, You can google about the pet rules in an apartment and hand over them a copy of it as well. They can not force you in any way. Its a very common situation we face on daily basis, Some people are just assholes, you cant make them understand so better to go and give a complain, please make sure you right that there is no rule/law which says you can not own a pet in an apartment, and these people are harrasing your parents, mention that if something happens to the pet in future, those people (who are asking you to get rid of your dog) will be held responsible. Now some people might suggest you some other ways to handle this situation, i have seen a lot of cases, have tried almost all the possible ways but nothing works better then a written complain. Plesae google about the AWBI rules and regulations.
