Which Name Is Best? *Character Name*?

Hello, fellow writer.

Personally, I think Luna is way overused. I hear it in a lot of things, not just Harry Potter, and it is so obviously connected with the moon that will make your story sound very cheesy.
Artemis on the other hand is very unique. I've never heard it before and it will make your story much more original as people won't immediatley notice the moon link.
She could go by Missy for short, which is nice and more feminine, if that suits her personality.

I really hope you choose Artemis, its 10000x more original and interesting! :)

Which name would be best for my character?

I am writing a story about a young military nurse who just got back from Vietnam. She goes back to her hometown in Wyoming for the first time in years and finds that the war has changed many people.

My character is hardened by what she has seen while in Vietnam and is quiet and rarely talks. But, she is generous and kind when she needs to be.

Anyways, I need to find a good name for my character. Here's the choices -

Evelyn
Johanne
Ruth

Those are the 3 I like the best. Now, I just need to know which is the best.

Which name best fits my character?

I'm a bit torn between four names for the main character in my book. It takes place in Elizabethan England, so I'm trying to keep her name elegant and natural yet unique. If you could pick which name and why or if you think there's one name that would fit her perfectly, that would be wonderful :)
She's 16 years old and performs in a circus as a contortionist. She has long brown-ish black hair and gray eyes. Her skin is fair and she's very beautiful. She can be sweet to those she loves and trusts, but she is suspicious and bitter to those outside of her circus "family". She's has an enchanting air about her because of her experience with performing. Her "stage" name is Calypso.

So I was thinking either Victoria, Isabelle(Isa or Belle for nick name; pick your favorite if you would), Emma(Em as a nickname), and Catherine. If you could pick one that would be great! Thanks :)

Which name works best for my character?

I am writing a story idea that I've had for a while, but I'm still stuck on the name for the main female character. The story, in short, is about a future dystopia. It would probably be considered an urban fantasy.

Female: Long, dark red hair cascades down her shoulders framing her oval face set with deep pale blue eyes. She has fair skin, with freckles dotted here and there, and a slight frame.
She has become worn down by the hardships of this future world, causing her to hide her opinions and feelings within herself to the point where she is beginning to forget what her true self is like. She plays it safe, follows the rules, and doesn’t try to draw attention to herself. She has a hard time trusting people, and for good reason because it‘s an “every man for himself” type of world. In order to earn her trust you need to prove yourself. This results in making her seem a bit "cold" and disconnected with the other people around her. But deep down inside a fire still burns, it’s not as strong as it once was, but it’s still there, still fighting to stay aglow. Throughout the course of the book she goes through dramatic changes that help that inner fire come out. She starts out cautious, but still curious, and by the end of the book her rebellious side breaks free and she becomes a leading force in a battle against the evil of the story.

OPTIONS that I am considering, but none of them feel "right": Aria, Fina, Maris, Fallon, or Tessa/Tess?

***Of course, if there is another name that immediately comes to you after reading the description please let me know, but I do NOT want a list. I'm going for something edgy, unique, and slightly futuristic, but still pronounceable/believable name that is not extremely common.

And the main male character's name is Xander.

Which name best fits my character?

Charlotte is okay but in my opinion Cathrine and Isabelle would be a poor choice. To be honest Calypso is a much better sounding name for this girl. If you keep this as her stage name you should consider giving her a better real name. She needs a name that sounds a little more exotic. The names you have picked are too common and too "sweet" sounding. This does not fit the character you describe. She needs a name with more strength and harder sounds. "Kath" or "belle" names are too weak and soft sounding.

For example: In the original version of the book "Gone With the Wind" the character Scarlett O'Hara was originally named "Pansy O'Hara" but the publishers suggested a change. Scarlett was not a common name in those days so it isn't particularly accurate from a historical standpoint BUT it fit the character much better. Pansy might have been the more realistic name but could you picture the name PANSY in this day in age? NO WAY! Scarlett is a strong, beautiful and iconic sounding name that is memorable.

So check out some other names. You can do better than this. The names you picked are too blah sounding. Check out some websites that help parents name babies. They have the meanings of the names and the country of origen so this can help too. Best of luck!

What is the best character name from any book that you've ever read? Why?

Sorry. It’s no good. I tried to avoid it, to think of another one, but for the most part names are just names. I find it hard to get that excited over them. But since I read this question, there’s one name that has been rattling around in my head and won’t go away.It is, naturally, from the man whose approach to naming things is so epic that Space-X have taken to borrowing them.In Iain M Banks’s last book [1], The Hydrogen Sonata, there is sentient spaceship of undeclared capability controlled by a hyperintelligent artificial Mind that is referred to throughout as “Mistake Not…”. It is only at the end of the book that it is revealed that the ship in question is powerful enough to scare off an entire fleet of opponents with a gentle threat, and its full name is:Mistake Not My Current State Of Joshing Gentle Peevishness For The Awesome And Terrible Majesty Of The Towering Seas Of Ire That Are Themselves The Milquetoast Shallows Fringing My Vast Oceans Of WrathIt is a name so ludicrously over the top that it is truly epic. Banks never, as far as I can find revealed the actual origin of the name, but consider this: Banks knew when he wrote The Hydrogen Sonata that his friend Terry Pratchett was slowly dying of a rare form of Alzheimer’s disease. Pratchett, one of the world’s great humorists, was famously angry.Could Mistake Not… be Banks’s tribute to his friend? Does it matter? Even if it’s not true, it deserves to be.[1] as distinct from Iain Banks’s last book, which was written by the the same man but a different author.EDIT: Peter Knutsen has pointed out that Banks’s own terminal cancer diagnosis didn’t come until after The Hydrogen Sonata was published. Edited to correct the sequence of events

Which name is the best for my character? Please HELP!?

okay so I'm writing a story, and the character is....

a sixteen yr old girl, who ends up committing suicide and starts off as a weak character who is usually depressed and doesn't care about life. Although later she ends up falling for two diff guys, (no shes not a slut...), one has always been there for her though she couldn't see him...*literally*...and the other is her best friend who she suddenly finds out she has to kill to save the humanity and stuffs...
anyway, basically she starts off weak and vulnerable, then later she grows into a stronger person and knows what she must do in her "new" life.

so these are the choices for the name...

Kara
Hyne pronounced (hi-n)
Rena
Sana
......yea not much else besides those. hmm...i like some japanese names too and i was trying to mix them with english names but didn't think of any.

so please help! tell me which one you like out of these names for my character, or if you have a good name then tell me! please...im not very good with getting names for my main characters...

At what point did you come up with character names for your novel?

I don't use placeholder names, so, in most cases, I've decided on the names for characters before I start writing, unless they're two-bit minor characters who only appear once or twice. That doesn't mean the names I've chosen will stick, though. I've been known to change names halfway through drafts, or between drafts, for various reasons. In one of my novels, towards the end of a draft, I realized I had a major problem. I had characters of varying importance by these names: Marianna, Malachi, Mara, Matthias, Martin, and Marceline. Obviously, that's way too many similar names, and I didn't realize I had so many until I finished that draft. How did I solve the problem? Marianna became Deirdre. Malachi and Mara stayed Malachi and Mara. Matthias became Brandon… or maybe Peter or Edvin. Matthias was part of a large family that includes siblings by the name of Peter, Brandon, and Edvin, so I'm not sure which one he became. Martin and Marceline wound up being cut from the plot entirely. Now, I've still got some similar names--a Johnathan and a Jonah, as well as Lily, Lyndon, Lenore, and Logan. The latter four are related and are two sets of twins, though, so there's a reason their names all start with L.For me, even though I don't use placeholder names, names are fluid. If I need to change them, they change, no matter how important the character is. Marianna-turned-Deirdre is a main protagonist, and Matthias is so important I don't even know what I changed his name to, but I changed both their names with ease.Usually, I work out any naming issues in early drafts, though, because a problem with a name is a pretty big problem.
