What's the significance of the "Don't tread on me" flags I see put up around my neighborhood?

These flags are known as Gadsden Flags.Gadsden flag This flag's history is rooted in Ben Franklin's political cartoon (the first-ever political cartoon, so one of many firsts by Ben) of a snake cut into pieces. The snake was meant to symbolize the colonies. It was during the Revolutionary war and the meaning was to join under a strong government, or perish (or, become British subjects).Today (according to the wikipedia article I link to above), it is used as a symbol by Libertarians and Tea Party members-- folks that do not want a strong Central National Federal Government. Why do they use this symbol today? I don't know. That's why I wrote this Quora question:Why do Libertarians and Tea Party members often use the "Don't Tread on Me" Snake as a symbol? Wasn't that a call to join under a strong Government?

What is the meaning behind the official video for "Wake Me Up" by Avicii?

Before answering, can I just say that I love how Avicii's "AV" logo, which is tattooed on the arms of the heroines in this video, looks like the original Quora upvote/downvote buttons. There, on her shoulder^My interpretation of "Wake Me Up" is that there is a place for everyone in life. The two heroines are outcasts in their rural home town because of their appearance. Everyone else in town dresses quaintly, while the heroines dress like fashionable city kids. The people in town give them disapproving looks when they walk the streets. The older of the two eventually makes a horseback journey to the city, searching for life. She ends up in Los Angeles, where the streets are empty. The scene is reminiscent of the pilot of episode of The Walking Dead, when Deputy Grimes goes into Atlanta on a horse, also searching for life. Wake Me Up videoWalking Dead The heroine enters the L.A. Fashion District, where she discovers a fashionably-dressed woman. The woman also has a AV tattoo. The woman leads her to a party, full of similarly dressed, modern party people. Our heroine returns to the town, wakes the young one, and tells her that they will go to a place where they belong. In the final shot, they leave the small town, heading to the city.   The video places a high emphasis on fashion (clothing making a statement about you, finding yourself in the Fashion District, etc) because it was cross promoted by Ralph Lauren's Denim & Supply. I would not be surprised if everyone in the video is wearing something out of the Ralph Lauren catalog. Macy's| Introducing Denim & Supply At the 1:30 mark in the video, you will notice that the writing on the saddle says "Denim & Supply - Ralph Lauren." It's not exactly subtle.

One of my favorite songs is Don Henley - The Boys Of Summer.

What is the meaning behind Fix You by Coldplay?

FIX YOU, X&Y, 2005.Blythe Danner, the mother of  Gwyneth Paltrow, and former mother-in-law of Chris Martin, stated in an interview that Martin 'wrote the song for Gwyneth when her father died and I weep every time I hear it'.When writing the song, vocalist Chris originally intended to use a church-style organ for the track. Unable to gain access to the instrument, Martin instead used an old keyboard that his late father-in-law, Bruce Paltrow, to whom the song is dedicated, gave to his daughter. Line by line interpretation."When you try your best, but you don't succeed When you get what you want, but not what you need When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep" refers to a huge struggle for attention, to be understood and really seen by the other is could be your lover. The difficulty where lots of couples get in to after a time. Expectations which did not come true."Stuck in reverse" means that when everything in your life is backwards and you feel like you're drowning in failure. When everything is opposite of how it should be.Gwyneth was really sad when she returned home to Martin. She was crying. When Martin asked her what he could do for her, she told him to hold her because his love would make her feel better. "Lights will guide you home and ignite your bones" means the lights will guide Gwyneth back home and back to happiness, that she will eventually move on from her father's death."When you're too in love to let it go But if you never try you'll never know Just what you're worth" meant that Gwenyth was too in love with her dad to let go of his death, and if she never tries to move on with it, she'll never know what she's worth. If she doesn't move on she'll always be in this dark pit of sadness over her father."I will try to fix you" meant that Martin will try to help her accept the pain she was feeling after the loss by being there for them, allowing them to vent or scream and shout and cry. Letting them get out the emotions that they are feeling.Martin said "Fix You is probably the most important song we've ever written". Martin's word is gold.

What is the meaning behind "What is the sound of one hand clapping?"?

Dear Friend,All our life, only that has happened to us, which has a cause and an effect. All our life, only that has happened to us, which is dualistic. When the Zen Master is saying that, “Go and listen to the sound of one hand clapping”, he is challenging you.He is saying that “Now, for once, can anything happen in your life which is un-caused, which is non-dual?”Two hands are required to clap, which means that in your life everything is dualistic, that everything depends on past and future, everything is cause and effect, everything is material. Now the Master is asking, “Can you find out that which is and yet is not caused?” The sound is, surely, because he is saying, “Go, listen to that sound.” But it cannot be a caused sound. For the sound to be caused, there must be two hands.Master is saying, “Now, can you listen to the silent music, to the un-caused sound?” He is challenging him to go and listen to Anhad. And when you start living in that, which is unreasonable, which has nothing behind it, which is not coming from your own past actions, then you are fit to be initiated. You can even be called Enlightened. That is about the Koan of ‘Sound of one hand clapping’.‘Can you be touched by the non-dual?’ – that is the mission of the student. For more content, you may search for my blog ‘Words into Silence’ on the web!

What is the meaning behind removing someones name from their Birthday Cake?

Recently I attended a birthday party, and the mother of the boy, removed his name from the birthday cake prior to cutting the cake. When asked why, all she said was "the ladies at the office do it"....when pressed for a real answer, she seemed upset.
So, other than the obvious "follower" comment, has anyone any clue as to the meaning of this ??? Where did it come from? Whats the meaning and or purpose?

What is the meaning behind the song go to sleep you little baby (didn't leave nobody but the baby)?

I have read some of what others say this song means. As you know, it was in the movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou. It was sung by the Sirens (women by the water).

1.some say it is a song about temptation and how the women are trying to get the men to do things with them.

2. Some say it is a song sung by an older woman who is telling the baby that his mother has gone away (with her red shoes on-meaning to be a Harlot or Prostitute) and daddy has died. The older person is planning on poisoning the baby by putting something in its bottle (honey in the rock and the sugar don't stop-gonna bring a bottle to the baby). Also "come lay your bones on the alabaster stones" could mean the grave for the baby. Also, "you and me and the Devil makes three" this person knows that they are doing something horrible and that is why they believe that the Devil is with them during this time.

3. Most say that it is a slave-style song about a mammy/grandmother person caring for the child since the mother has left to have another child and the father is presumably dead. But this person is trying to care for it and give it bottles and nurture the baby.
