These are all pictures of me taken last summer and recently. I am wondering if you find me attractive or pretty. Am I just cute? Am I ugly? Am I gorgeous? If you are a guy would you date me? What things can I do to improve my look? Which picture do you like the best>

Why do some things look better in real life than in pictures?

Perspective. Your eyes (well, your brain, actually, but more on that in a moment) see in three dimensions. We experience delight in patterns and symmetry, bright colours and… motion.Cameras and eyes deliver these things in fundamentally different ways. A good photographer/cameraman knows how to manipulate the composition of an image to make it look nice to you.But things that look nice in the frame are not the same as things that look nice to the eye. A number of quite famous models look a little weird in person, because their features are quite exaggerated. Put those same features into a photo frame, though, and they look stunning, arresting.People think of photos and video as ‘real’, but they’re not. They are specifically designed to play tricks with the visual cortex and to create a particular impression, accompanied by a particular response.People have been doing this trickery deliberately for over a century now, but with the advent of new technologies that allow us to measure brain activity, they’ve begun to develop these approaches into formal theories. Here’s a quick beginner’s overview.

Are these pictures pretty? can you even see them?

Who's prettier? (pics)?

brunette has more of a girl next door look
and blonde has more of an odd pretty look
you both are very pretty
but in different ways

Do you think it is fair to use a picture of a pretty girl on social media, as long as you look similiar?

So I actually did something like this as an experiment. It had… mixed results.Basically let’s say that it was fun while it lasted and not fun after. So earlier this year I produced an album for a band called Dorja. They look like this:Needless to say, they look good. Very, very good. I however, look like this:So when they asked me to cover a few tour dates this summer I figured it would be probably be a bit of a ticket sales killer for my chunky, hairy visage to show up instead of the regular bassist (the wonderful Becky Baldwin: OG rock goddess, check her many bands!).So in my place, Olivia Joss Lee was temporarily born:10/10 if I do say so myself…For about a month coming up to the gig I switched over my entire profile to female and created an Instagram (not to mention a lasting sense of gender dysphoria). Basically a combination of stock pics, FaceApp and my not-inconsiderable photoshop skills.-Girls night out watching the Jacksons -What started out as a bit of a laugh (and a small experiment in my eyes) rapidly turned into a total clusterf*ck of dick pics, unsolicited sexual advances and #metoo. It also got me a surprising amount of work offers. Turns out female bassists and producers are very much in demand!Which is why it actually f*cked up my chances at a couple of other jobs. Not to mention the audience confusion and reaction. I spent most of the signing time after gigs explaining away my ‘twin sister’. I even had a proper falling out with another musician who wouldn’t book me because of my ‘lack of respect for the female musician’ (not strictly deserved I feel, but still kind of true).Because I played fast and loose with the truth, I disappointed everyone around me, lost work and got sexually assaulted (and threatened with rape no less) online by rando-pervs.So yeah. Don’t do that. It’s not fair to anyone. Especially you.

"You look much better in real life than in pictures."?

If someone told you that you were much better-looking in real life than in your pictures, how would you feel?

A girl recently told me that I was sooo much better-looking in real life and joked that I should never take pictures. But I didn't think the photos of me were that bad or that different from the real-life me. I felt a bit confused.

Do you think a nose job can make someone prettier? (pics)?

I've been wanting a nose job, and I think it will help me to become prettier. What do you think of the people in these pics, did their nose jobs make them more attractive?

Why do I think I'm beautiful in the mirror but not beautiful in pictures?

This is a well known phenomenon. In a mirror you are reversed, but in a photo you are not. The photo is how others see you, but almost all the time you see your mirror image. So you get used to how your mirror image looks. We prefer the look of familiar things. When you see a photo, it looks a bit ‘off’ to your brain.

Do you think people look better in real life than photos?

As a photographer, I found some people look better in person, than in pictures, and some look better in pictures than in person.

Not sure why, and I saw no reason for it.

I guess it is some people are better one way or the other.

And I did find some that looked good in person and in pictures as well.

Do you think you look a lot better in real life than on smart phone camera pictures?

(When this answer was written, the question had been changed toDoes a person look a lot better in real life than on smart phone camera pictures? This is the question I answered. It has since been changed back to what is apparently its original form.)Often they look better in real life. Smart phone cameras tend to have lenses with relatively short (wide-angle) focal lengths. Wide angle lenses make objects closer to the camera look comparatively larger than they are, they “emphasize perspective.”In an arm’s-length selfie, this means you have a choice of improbably big eyes, an improbably big nose, or an improbably big chin.Back in the old days, we were warned against using wide-angle lenses for portraits, except if we did it precisely for these effects. One normally used a lens with a focal length between 85 and 100 mm for people shots. For comparison, the lens on the iPhone 5 and 6 has an effective “35-mm equivalent” focal length of 30 mm.
