Which Southern State/city Should I Move To

What are the best Southern states to live in?

Sounds like you've been listening to a lot of country music.
The problem is, a lot of rural Southerners don't care for "outsiders" coming in. They are a bit cliquish and can also be distrustful of those from other areas, since they feel newcomers aren't respectful of their culture and community, or aren't able to care about it as much as they do.
I would say move to a city or suburb first and see how well you adjust to the south in general.Suburban areas of Tennessee are good because thats where the country music scene is and there is enough tourism there where they might be more tolerant of city folks coming in. Like, near Nashville. Knoxville is more eclectic but still a lot of tourism.

Why do so many Northerners move to the Southern States?

I mean this is America so you can move anywhere you want, but they just keep on invading and building more and more cities. Then most (not all) complain most of the time about how its not the same as it was back in there previous city. Lot of them even complain about the heat. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate yankees. I just find it annoying that they move down here, claim to be southerners, build huge houses, and complain. What I would like to know is why do you guys insist on moving down here. Thanks.

I live in sm southern city - women like Stepford wives - how do i survive?

I have never been in such an unfriendly place - very superficial-anywhere else these people would be average income people. I have met some really great sincere people, but there are these others I unfortunately keep encountering that ask: What does your husband do? Who is building your house? Where did you move from? I am a pretty friendly outgoing person have lived everywhere - but this by far is the most unfriendly and we won't be moving anytime soon. I miss my other southern city - at least people were nice in general. People here act suspicious of you, don't smile, don't even say hello - just very cold. This southern town does not live up to that whole southern hospitality motto. And this is the home of a great university! Should I give this time and be patient? I admit I am ultra-sensitive, but I am kind. I haven't felt that here. It's all about how much money you have and what kind of car you drive. To that I say, Sam Walton drove a used pick-up truck. Don't even know me.

Is Missouri considered a southern state?

Today the state is usually considered part of the Midwest, historically Missouri was sometimes considered a Southern state, chiefly because of the settlement of migrants from the South and its status as a slave state before the Civil War. The counties that made up "Little Dixie" were those along the Missouri River in the center of the state, settled by Southern migrants who held the greatest concentration of slaves.

Residents of cities farther north and of the state's large metropolitan areas, including those where most of the state's population resides (Kansas City, St. Louis, and Columbia), typically consider themselves Midwestern. In rural areas and cities farther south, such as (Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff and Springfield), residents typically self-identify as more Southern.

Best states to live down south?

I'm a Yankee in the south, and I kind of know what you mean. What you will find is that racism is no more prevalent here than it is up north, so long as you stay within more urban and culturally established places. All rural areas do not have racism problems, but your odds of running into that in Perry, Florida is much higher than if you are in Tallahassee, which holds the state capitol and more than one university. That is my personal example. Maryland, however, is barely south! If you end up there, you likely won't find any more racism than you will in Chicago or New York.

Hope that helps a little. Have a good move!
