Soccer Is Most Popular game in the world i have a great soccer team we bought Soccer accessories Online Online shop http://www.aztecasoccer.com

The most famous sports in the world?

1) Soccer - 128 countries considered this sport as their national pasttime.

2) Cricket - extremely popular in Central America, West Asia, Oceania and Africa countries)

3.) Basketball - with more international players playing in the NBA, popularity in this sports is increasing.

4) Field Hockey - surprise? but India, Pakistan, and other West Asia countries along with Austalia and some European countries like UK, Germany, Holland and Spain are playing this sports.

5.) Baseball - the Americas, East Asia countries has their own professional league

10.) Table tennis - being the national sport of the world's most populous nation China, this sport is also being played in East Asian and European countries.

Norwegians view Norway as a skiing nation, but fame does not come with that. In fact, Norway is the greatest winter sports nation of all time. The most prominent individual is Magnus Carlsen, the world chess champion.Next I would pick Thor Hushovd as a previous cycling star and Ole(gend) Gunnar Solskjær on Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.Karsten Warholm is the most prominent athlete right now.The best cyclists are Alxander Kristoff and Edvald Boasson Hagen right now.Women’s handball is not well known. It is like skiing not a world wide sport. Few have heard of Vegard Ulvang, Bjørn Dæhlie, Thomas Alsgaard, Petter Northug, Marit Bjørgen, Therese Johaug, and the fresh star Johannes H. Klæbo.Ole Einar Bjørndalen may be the most famous skier (biathlon).

Definitely Football is more famous than Cricket.Football beats cricket in many aspects.Number of member nations: FIFA cirrently has 209 (more than UN) members while ICC has 106, which is nearly half of that of FIFA. Apart from the difference in numbers what actually matters is the reach of the sport. Out of 106 members of ICC it is really hard to predict how many nations try to develop the the resources for cricket.Leagues: Most of FIFA members have their national league (though popularity and quality of league are different for each nation). FIFA has a great structure defined in the form of confederation wide champions league or champions cup which really helps the sport grow. I hardly see such effort from ICC.The world cup: It's actually very funny to compare ICC world cup with FIFA world cup. First FIFA world cup took place in 1930 while first ICC world cup was held in 1975. FIFA world cup is one of the biggest sports events in the world. The qualification process starts nearly 3 years prior to actual world cup and generally all the member nations take part in it. While ICC world cup qualifications run with same duration and merely 12/20 participants (I am not sure of ICC world cup qualification process. Please correct me if I am wrong). So there is no way Cricket is more popular than Football.

It depends on how you define "most popular". But by most measures, the answer seems to be football. If you mean which sport has the most participants, the answer is easily football. Estimates are that football is played by 250 million people around the world. To put that number in perspective, cricket is the second most participated sport in the world with 120 million participants, less than half than that of soccer. If you mean which sport has the most attendance, the answer is either baseball or American football, depending on which measure you use. Over the past year, Major League Baseball has by far the top attendance with 74 million fans. Another baseball league is in second place, Nippon Professional Baseball at 24 million. Basketball, ice hockey, and American football take the 3rd thru 5th spots on the list, respectively. The most attended football league is the Premier League with a mere 14 million. Even if you combined the attendance of the top 5 football leagues (Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, Football League Championship, and Serie A) they would total 56 million, still less than Major League Baseball. But this is skewed by the number of games in a season for each sport. Major League Baseball has 162 regular season games, while Premier League has only 38. If we instead consider average attendance per event, American football comes out on top with 69,000. Football comes in at 2nd with 44,000, and baseball slips to 5th at 30,000.If you mean which sport is the most watched on TV, the answer is again football. TV audiences are difficult to accurately estimate due to the way statistics are gathered, but even by rough estimates football comes out on top. The 2014 FIFA World Cup had a total TV audience of 3.5 billion (No, this does not mean that half of the population of the entire planet watched the World Cup). Number 2 on the list would be cycling, with 2.2 billion viewers of the Tour De France. Out of the top 10 most viewed sporting events in the world, half of them are either football or cycling. But this number is also skewed because it favours sports that are popular in technologically advanced countries, which have greater access to TV.

Soccer/Football, because its so basic, all you need is a ball of no specific size, you could use tennis balls or basketballs if you had nothing else (tennis ball is fun:), and no other equipment. Its quick to set up, like if you play cricket, you need bats, balls a large space. If you play basketball you need raised hoops. If you play tennis you need rackets. Ice hockey needs ice, so on so on. And its sort of like a vicious, or nonvicious, circle, the more people like it the more other people are curious why it is so popular, they watch, they like it, so on. Every single country in the world has some form of proffesional or semi-professional competition, and I think there are only 2 or 3 countries without a national team. Although the top players are very coordinated and skilled, you can still have fun with mates even if you have limited skill. Its the first sport i played and enjoyed at school, I could barely kick straight to start with but I still thought it was fun, coz even if you screw up a bit it still seems like you've achieved something, like the ball's closer to goals etc, whereas if you're playing tennis, you hit the net and you've lost, if you play cricket, you miss the ball and its frustrating (talking for kids) etc. Theres no special strength or speed needed, so anyone can play ok. And because it was an early sport in Europe it was popular 100s of years ago, and even when new sports are introduced the old ones already have more fans, many who blindly refuse to like another sport more.

What are the most popular sports in the world?

Soccer is first
It is played on every continent except Antarctica (obviously)
There is even a church in Argentina that worships soccer as a religion.

Cricket is second
Cricket is played worldwide. America doesn't seem to do anything with it, but the truth is that there are leagues everywhere! It is more popular in Europe and Asia.

Gymnastics is third
Gymnastics probably has the most athletes in the world, it's just soccer is more popular to follow and watch. There are millions of gymnasts worldwide.

Hope this helps!

In the Olympics I'd say from an American's perspective it would be women's gymnastics. Gymnastics is not a sport we dominate (basketball, soccer/futbol) but we always have a competitive team or at least very talented individual competitors that are marketed very heavily by national sports and news providers.Globally in non olympic years its likely soccer/futbol, same for men just not in the states where we have higher scoring faster paced sports, namely football and basketball where most media attention is focused.
