White Line Along The Sides Of My Tongue

White line along side of tongue?

I have a white line that runs all the way along the edge of my tongue. It makes the edge of my tongue look bumpy. Hard to describe.
My tongue has been looking like this for months.
No pain involved.
What is this??

Lines on sides of tongue?

So, to make it clear, I've been having health anxiety for over a year now, so I get paranoid whenever something seems out of place. Anyways, I've had horizontal lines on the inside of my cheeks for some time now, I saw my dentist about it awhile ago and he said that these are probably caused by my teeth biting on the inside of my cheeks. Today, I noticed the same kind of lines but this time they are on the sides of my tongue. They could have been there since forever, but I just happened to notice them. Btw, those lines on the cheeks are still there. The lines are a little bit raised and seem to be very soft; white, but not REALLY REALLY white, rather whitish. Normal?

Thanks..

Did you ask your dentist when you were there? That is what you need to do..............

Why do I have white lines on my tongue?

This is not easy to answer with out a picture of your tongue. White lines or striations on tongues can have many causes. I’ve included a link that describes various conditions of tongues along with pictures. Look at the description for Herpetic geometric glossitis and the picture, #8, to see if this is similar to what you are experiencing. But the best way to get a diagnosis is to show your tongue to your dentist.Medscape Log In

Why is there white stuff on my tongue's side?

The sides of the tongue is known as the lateral bordersWe all have 2 lateral borders, one left and one right. There are numerous white lesions that may affect the tongue, and some of them need urgent attention as they may be serious conditions,i.e.Malignancies like squamous cell carcinoma may present as a whitish ulcer or a whitish elevated patchLeukoplakia, potentially malignant.Candidiasis, fungal infection which may be a manifestation of a weakened immune systemOral Lichen Planus, autoimmune disorder, potentially malignant.Examples of white lesions that are not life threatening,Frictional keratosis, results in a whitish area usually due to biting or frictional forces acting on soft tissue.Geographic tongue, unknown cause. Please visit a dentist as soon as possible, there is no other way to find out what your white lesion is,don't delay!

Why does my tongue look like this? It hurts. Those white lines don’t brush off. What could I do about it?

If you have it since childhood, one possibility is “ geographic tongue” which is totally harmless. Check the rest of your buccal cavity to see there are similiar lesions elsewhere. If that happens, consider candida infection or lichen planus. These things need to be seen to reach a diagnosis.

How dangerous can it be to have white stuff on my tongue's side?

There are various causes of white lesions of the tongue (leukoplakia). Most of which aren’t particularly dangerous, but it is important to visit your dentist to get it diagnosed.White lesions are usually harmless. It is red lesions or mixed red-white lesions that cause more concern. That isn’t to say that a white lesion cannot be dangerous. Most likely cause is frictional keratosis. Mostly from tooth grinding (bruxism). Its literally just the tongue rubbing against the teeth and causing friction. You will probably notice a scalloped appearance to your tongue.Another likely cause is Lichen Planus. A premalignant autoimmune attack on the tongue. This needs adequate management and monitering as it can change to become cancerous.Another cause can be candida. A yeast infection of the mouth. Some white lesions can be pre-malignant. This means that it may not be cancer, but can turn cancerous if left unattended. The key is to get it diagnosed and monitered.

Why is the tissue at the side of my tongue yellow/white?

Good question, the first thing I can observe, if you don’t mind me asking is that a metal stud in your tongue at the site of discolouration? If so, then it could be possible you have an infection around the site causing abit of inflammation. Now, you mention digestive issues so my first question is what are you eating? How are feeling with what you are eating? If your having digestive issues then something you are putting in your mouth is not agreeing with your body..are you eating alot of sugar? When did you notice the symptom? I could be wrong, however at first look it could be a simple fungal infection and not cancer. The term Candidiasis – also known as “thrush,”. Research a little on Candida Yeast infection. It can occur in the mouth or throat due to high amounts of yeast. The white spots inside the mouth or on the tongue are common symptoms. Have you a sore throat and difficulty swallowing? If so then you can get rid of this easily, I think I read of a supplement called Candex, or Dr Ohiras Probiotics, that were great for this infection, have a look on amazon etc.Now that may deal with the symptoms, however you have to discover the root cause of why this has happened. Review your food choices, your stress levels, your exercise, your water intake, your sleep etc. and hopefully you will be on the road to recovery.Hope that helps,R.
