White Smoke Coming Out Tailpipe On Bmw X5 Why

I had put excess motor oil into a car. White smoke started coming out of the tailpipe. It has been three days and everything seems to be fine. Could a blown gasket still be an issue?

If you put way to much oil in for the engine, you may well get loads of white smoke. i did this once on a motorcycle which tended to ‘wet sump’ (the oil normally carried outside the engine, leaked into the engine overnight) every time I checked the level before starting it was low, so I topped it up)the oil was actually leaking into the engine and the oil pump happily pumped it back out after a few minutes, but, I had already checked it and added more.Result was one day I started and clouds of white smoke poured out of the exhaust. In fact only the other day this happened (same model of bike) as it had wet sumped so much the oil was hitting the piston skirt.…And in case people say anything, its an aircooled engine….So yeah, loads of white smoke can be caused by too much oilYou HAVE drained out or extracted the excess though… Haven’t you???Garages have a suction device that can draw excess up and out through the dipstick tube… Pop in and have a word….

White smoke coming from my exhaust?

Oil, transmission fluid and antifreeze are the three fluids most likely to be the cause of white smoke coming from your exhaust. Ruptured seals, leaky bolts and blown gaskets can expose oil to hot spots, making it burn. Pinholes or loose lines can cause antifreeze to spray on the engine, while transmission fluid can be sucked into the engine and burn.

White Smoke From Tail pipe, 1995 BMW 525i?

I just bought a 1995 BMW 525i, there is a small but noticeable amount of white smoke coming out of the tail pipe when i drive the car, there is also a liquid dripping, i think it is water but I'm not sure. I know it is not condensation because it is not cold outside and my car is the only car that is doing this on the road. I also just discovered that the fuel line is leaking from underneath the car and needs to be fixed. None of the check engine lights are on and the car is not overheated at all. The rest of the car runs fine, the only other issue is that the A/C and heat aren't working. Why is there white smoke coming out of the exhaust? Why won't the heater or A/C work? How much will fixing this cost?

BMW 325i Smoke from Exhaust?

I have 2002 BMW 325i and when I drive sometimes it smokes from exhaust. It happens only for a minute. When that happens I push the gas pedal that extract all the smoke then it stops smoking. I check the water and oils they are enough. Can anyone tell me what is the problem ?

Thanks...

Why does a car produce smoke in cold weather, but only when it starts and not when the car is hot?

The exhaust fumes of petrol cars contain quite a big amount of water. When you switch off the engine, some water stays behind in the exhaust system. When you start your car, two things happen: 1. The cold exhaust system lets the water condense out of the exhaust fumes (it is the same effect when you breathe in cold weather) 2. The water staying in the exhaust system is converted into steam and blown out of the muffler. You will also notice, that many cars show some liquid dripping out of the exhaust after cold start and during operation. This is mainly condensed water.

Why is antifreeze coming out of the exhaust? What can I do?

First, you're positive that it's coolant? Green and matches the stuff in your radiator? I ask because you will have a certain amount of condensation developing in the exhaust pipe and this increases in cold weather so it may look like a bunch of water is coming out when it's just normal condensation. If you're sure it's coolant, your vehicle should also be running poorly as that means your head gasket is blown and coolant is getting into the cylinder(s). Coolant in the cylinder is very bad and you should stop operating the vehicle immediately or risk further (more expensive) damage.

What does it mean if a diesel engine throws white smoke?

White smoke from a diesel is usually from unburned fuel. When combustion is incomplete, a diesel mist comes from the exhaust. It is very common when starting a diesel in very cold weather. It can occur from bad rings or valves not properly sealing the combustion chamber, an engine running too cool for complete combustion, defective injectors, or bad injector timing. The other possibility is a leaking coolant system. Coolant can enter the combustion chamber from a cracked block or head, a bad injector sleeve, blown head gasket, or even a leaking intercooler. The difference is that coolant smells sweet, and white smoke smells like fuel.

Can a diesel particulate filter cause white smoke from a car\s exhaust?

First thing all of us Mechanics, automotive Diagnosticians, and Gear heads want to know is:. What kind of Vehicle are we talking about. We need year, make, model, engine size, etc. The more info the better. Otherwise, it's like calling up a doctor and asking if the pain you are feeling is kidney stones or not, because someone told you that it could be. There are many different things that can cause your issue. But without more info to go on, you might as well shake a magic 8 ball and ask it.

Can water get into a car engine through the exhaust pipe?

Yes, but not always!Since the exhaust gases are flowing outwards through the tail pipe, Water won't enter into it, even if water get inside the exhaust pipe [silencer] water won't reach the engine since it's mounted far too high for the water to reach. But if the driver suddenly make any changes in the engine speed[while shifting gear or slowing down], water can get sucked into the engine as a result of the back pressure created in the exhaust pipe due to the sudden change in engine speed. So if you happen to drive through a water logged roads, then shift to the lower gear so that engine will run in higher speed and as result more exhaust pressure is produced, which will prevent water from entering the pipe. Maintain a good engine speed, and never change gears or apply clutch until you pass the water logged areaOnce you passes the water logged areas, make sure all the electricals and breaks are working just fine, and continue your drive.. !!
