White Vapor Coming From Hood Of Car Help

Steam/smoke coming from car hood in rain?

cold water on a hot hood = steam

toss some cold water in a pot pan on the stove = steam

same thing. just more prevalent on cooler days with rain and high humidity.

Steam comes off my car hood when it rains/snows while I am driving? How come? Windshield also fogs up badly.?

No one smokes. Regular mechanic says water is coming in through the tail lights hence causing the fogging up of the winshield. Mechanic says steam coming off the car hood is normal.

Not a radiator problem as the engine is not overheating. I can literally see steam come off the hood and only when it gets wet while driving.

Dealer says water coming in the tail lights but not enough to cause the level of fogging up that is happening (it is really bad) Dealer says probably water somewhere in the dash. 1988 Prelude.

(I know to use a/c, clean windshield etc.)
Thoughts?

Car overheating...White smoke?

I think you have a water pump problem mayby, your coolant is going somewhere, and likely last yime you overheated, you did not work the air bubbles out of the system, anytime your car pukes all the coolant, There are going to be pockets of air, you start the vehicle up, with the radiator cap off, let it warm up untill the thermostat kicks in, and keep an eye on the coolant level.as it warms up and gets hot, rev the engine several times with the radiator cap still off, make sure radiator is full close it up, drive it for five minutes or so and park it, and let it cool all the way off, making sure the overflow is full, then some fluid should get sucked in as the hot air cools. the next morning when its cool, pop the cap and see if the radiator is full ( this tells you vacum system is working. ) BUT YOU DID NOT DO THAT
so your second trip, you may have had air bubbles in the system, and as you can tell it does not work right. park the car. and go back to the beginning of what I wrote here. I would buy a new radiator cap too, and for now, use water until you find your leak, most american cars, have a weep hole on the bottom of the water pump, this is a hole with a seal that breaks, if the bearing goes bad. and it dumps coolant, how we tell is look at the hole with a flashlight, if its leaking hot coolant it will be very clean around the hole.
leave the heater open when messing with this for now until you find the problem, and that fan? that is going to burn up if its direct wired all the time, fix the dang thing right, and get the temp sensor back online like its supposed too. or its the next thing that will melt.

Thin white smoke coming from hood?

Sounds like it may be overheating. Watch your temp gauge on your dash board, if it spikes up real high, shut the car off as quick as possible as you may cause serious engine damage. Overheating can be caused by several issues, ie. faulty thermostat, water pump failure and even low coolant levels.

I had put excess motor oil into a car. White smoke started coming out of the tailpipe. It has been three days and everything seems to be fine. Could a blown gasket still be an issue?

If you put way to much oil in for the engine, you may well get loads of white smoke. i did this once on a motorcycle which tended to ‘wet sump’ (the oil normally carried outside the engine, leaked into the engine overnight) every time I checked the level before starting it was low, so I topped it up)the oil was actually leaking into the engine and the oil pump happily pumped it back out after a few minutes, but, I had already checked it and added more.Result was one day I started and clouds of white smoke poured out of the exhaust. In fact only the other day this happened (same model of bike) as it had wet sumped so much the oil was hitting the piston skirt.…And in case people say anything, its an aircooled engine….So yeah, loads of white smoke can be caused by too much oilYou HAVE drained out or extracted the excess though… Haven’t you???Garages have a suction device that can draw excess up and out through the dipstick tube… Pop in and have a word….

Why is the coolant in my car's radiator boiling with white smoke coming out of it?

The smoke is steam. When you have the radiator cap off the radiator the water is not under pressure, and will often come to a boil. You probably do not have a problem unless this continues with the cap in place. Once the cap is in place with full coolant levels, look at your temp gauge, or the warning lights on your dash. If neither indicate overheating you are probably good to go.There are conditions such as a blown head gasket or a cracked water passage/jacket or a bad thermostat that can also result in what seems to be boiling coolant and white smoke. If your car is running oddly, has steam/white smoke coming from it in normal operation, or is consuming coolant you should get a mechanic to look at it ASAP.

Car is smoking under hood. What could it be?

Many things can be the cause. Something burning, like a combustible touching a hot exhaust pipe. Excessive blow by from the engine could be emitting oil vapor. Running hot causing coolant recovery tank overflow are also possibilities to consider.

What if my car is not overheating, but white smoke and gas are coming out the tail pipe?

Gasses will always exit your tailpipe while the car is running, that’s what the exhaust is, gases. However, smoke can be a sign of problems. The color and smell of the smoke can be a good indication of what might be wrong.Sweet smelling white smoke can be caused by antifreeze getting into the combustion chamber. This would almost certainly be due to a failing head gasket. If this is your problem you will notice the level of antifreeze declining as it exits through your combustion chamber and out your exhaust. The prognosis for an engine with this problem is not good. You need a head gasket. Depending on the engine this can be quite expensive. If the smoke is blueish and smells like oil, this is a sign that oil is making its way into the combustion chamber through one of a few different ways. The two most common are:Oil making its way from the crankcase by your piston to the combustion chamber because the rings are worn.orOil getting by your valves due to worn valve seals.Prognosis for an engine in this condition is also not great but the latter is more fixable than the former.

White smoke coming out of air conditioner vents?

I have a '96 Honda Accord that has had no major problems with about 115,000 miles on it. Just recently there has been white smoke coming out of the air conditioner when the air conditioner is on only. It doesn't smell like smoke. I was thinking it was just condensation but it hasn't gone away. What could it be?!
