If you're independently wealthy and don't need to rely on Uber income go for it. Otherwise buy a 2 year old Lincoln MKZ hybrid. Believe me, I know the numbers. Forget about a Tesla as much as I love them.Btw: It's actually enjoyable driving people around and having interesting conversations.But if you really calculate total costs you'll be lucky to net $15–20/hr depending on incentives in SLC.I drive a Lincoln MKZ hybrid in San Francisco, arguably one of the strongest markets in the US for ride share, and do ok but I'm retired and don't depend on Uber for more than a bit of extra $$. Typically around $500/week driving MWF for around 6 hours per day.Subtract car payments/depreciation/insurance/gas etc… of around $600/month and I net $1,400/month.If I worked 5days per week and 9–10 hrs perhaps I'd double that because of driver incentives based on # of trips.But that's in San Francisco where you essentially have passengers in your car continually. Also, I live in the center of SF and don't commute in from 30 -40 miles away as do so many drivers.I estimate Uber Select contributes an additional 25–30% to my per trip net.Do people use it much in SLC?But… if you can get a good deal on a used Tesla w transferable warranty it does have a 8 year UNLIMITED battery/ drivetrain warranty so if you can drive 5–6 days / week during the AM and PM rush hours I suppose you could make perhaps $40–45k after expenses.You also might be able to develop a clientele as well since many passengers will get a kick out of being driven around in such a neat car.I have a few Uber Select passengers who call me to arrange trips. The main reason they do not interbreed is mainly because they occupy different niches. The Alligators primarily live in freshwater swamplands while the crocodiles prefer to live in waters with high salinity. The crocodiles will sometimes travel up river and into swamplands where they could interact with alligators, but their behavior is what ultimately keeps them apart.

From the experiences of other solo Uber travelers, do you sit in the front passenger seat or in the back?
I have yet to have a single UBER passenger ride in the front and like other responders my car is extremely clean. As a matter of fact one of the first things passengers remark on is how nice the interior is, how clean it is, side camera, leather etc etc..."What kind of car is this? Was it expensive?" Now LYFT is a totally different story. Many of my passengers feel very comfortable riding in front. This most likely because the advertising for LYFT comes across less formal and serious. However, I have noticed a culture/ethnicity difference with LYFT. Passengers from India more than any other ethnicity almost always sit in the front and they seem to enjoy conversation as much as I enjoy talking to them. One passenger last week wasn't sure where to sit and I explained I was happy and comfortable either way and it was really his choice. He smiled and got in the front, explaining that many drivers had asked him to sit in the back. For LYFT that felt weird but I can see other UBER drivers doing this even though I wouldn't.In my car you can literally sit wherever you want. Even if it's two passengers from India one of them always sits in the front vs every other ethnicity. This is not because of space as one of the comments I get from passengers is how extremely roomy my car is. Sorry to compare the two main services as that's not what you asked me for but I just thought I would point that out.
