Who Do Movie Producers Work For

How much money do movie producers make from a movie?

It varies.  Big time producers like J.J. Abrams and Jerry Bruckheimer can get a huge amount of money upfront, millions, plus a big part of the back end gross profits. Some producers like that opt out of the front end pay days and demand a bigger percentage of the back end, thus taking more ownership of the film.  That's the top one-percenters though.  Most producers work for much less upfront, in the six figure range, or perhaps the low seven figures, and then rely on the back end profits.  One thing to keep in mind is that producers generally don't get paid to develop a slate of projects.  Development is often unpaid.  They may have a "term deal" with a studio, which means that the studio gives them office space and covers certain expenses.  However, producers will most often be working for free until they have a project greenlit by a studio or investors.  Lastly, the "producer" credit is often used as currency itself.  There are times when a person has been attached to a project, but then replaced early on in the development process, but are given a producing credit for their time and contributions.  So it varies for sure.

Ok so I want to be a movie producer ?

Independent film producers typically fall into two categories: those with a lot of money to back a film, or those who know where to get the money to back a film. If you do not fall into either of those two categories, then you need to get an education, start a professional career from the bottom-up, and then make the connections and relationships necessary to really build a career.

For more information on the duties of a film producer, you might want to look at this career profile: http://getinmedia.com/careers/film-produ...

Likewise, here are a couple of others that might interest you:

Producers are the people who facilitate and project and manage the numerous logistical concerns of running a production. In addition to getting funding for the project, the producer must hire the director and senior technical/design staff, buy and negotiate the rights to the script, negotiate contracts with the actors, clear copyrights for products, places, or other items used in filming, secure permits for shooting on locations, approve rentals for equipment and facilities, secure distribution, etc. etc. etc.

Basically, this boils down to having a thorough understanding of how the film industry works. Now, there is definitely an opportunity to work as an indie producer, but if you do now have those two things that I mentioned at the beginning, then you need to consider getting an education in film/TV production so that you can understand the process, and so that you can make the contact necessary to try and start your career off on the right foot.

Is it hard to become drama/movie producer?

Is it hard? Well, I don't see anyone just stepping into the role and doing it. I see lots of people able to work on a checkout till, or in MacDonalds flipping burgers, or making coffee in Starbucks. There aren't as many people who work as movie producers, so yes, I suppose it must be hard. I came up with that answer with almost no thinking time at all. I'm not especially bright so I suspect you could have as well.

What is the role of directors and producers in movies?

In short, the Director is the Creative CEO of a movie and Producer is the Business CEO. In other words, Director heads the creative departments and the producer heads the production & business related departments. While it is pretty clear what a Director does. Quiet often people think Producer is the one who invests money in a movie. But that is not the case. The people who invest may ask for a producer credit but technically they are financiers. A producer is the one who understands the film business and makes sure that the project is greenlit, financed, getting the crew together, getting the project done within budget, package and brand it, look for distribution and other monetisation avenues for the film and also possibly sell the movie rights either in full or may be broadcast rights to channels or OTTs like Netflix etc. These are a few things a producer does among many other things but I guess you get the idea. A director on the other hand is responsible to make sure the movie is executed as planned in the script working with all the departments (which is an incredibly skillful job) and most importantly the story is told effectively and as intended.

What exactly does a movie producer do?

They're with a film from pre-production right through to post-production. They can come up with ideas, and then cast for directors and actors they think would fit the roles. They usually work on the story, changing little bits that they feel could be improved or would be better in another way - then work on the script. They sometimes, but not always, budget for things like the actors, directors, crew members, locations, transport, food and hotels, all whilst advising the director on what they think would be better or may help the story. Once a film is completed, they help with the editing phases, advising there also. They put money towards a project, enabling them to make changes as they see fit - however, how much money they put towards the film equates to how much say they have, and many producers often cancel each other out. When the film is released, they organise the distribution and marketing of the film, and often oversee the final stages when it is released on optical media.

In movies what is difference between producer and director?

producer is the one who pays for it, and the director is the artistic mind behind the direction of the movie.....
