Why did Germany invade Russia in 1941?
There were lots of reasons to invade it, generally, some of which have been mentioned (living space, hating the Bolsheviks). Why he did it at that particular point in time was because his attempt to invade Britain had just failed, which meant the western front was somewhat less of an active concern (or so he thought). Not only did he hate communism and plan to enslave the Slavic peoples, but more urgent for Hitler at that time was that Russia had enormous oil and other resources that he wanted and needed for his war effort.
What if Hitler didn't invade Russia?
He waited too long, and that's why his army was stuck in Russia in winter 1942-43... The outcome of war could only have changed if Russia had stayed neutral; but since Stalin was extremely shrewd, he would have realized that Hitler had neither the resources nor the industrial potential to counter the U.S., dragged into war by the Japanese... and therefore, at the first possible occasion, he would have probably joined the allies against the Reich- which would anyway represend a too-close threat in the European continent. of course, this is pure speculation- because the search for "vital space" Eastwards and anti-Communist hatred were the main linchpins of nazi ideology---and the invasion of URSS/Russia was the inescapable outcome of the entire Hitlerian design. He even expected to be supported by his Anglo-Saxon racial "kinsmen" against the "inferior" Slavic peoples---- but things went otherwise!

I allow myself to speculate on the topic, but there short imho is YES.If you read about the polish- Russian war of 1920, which today is almost forgotten, you will see a Soviet Union headed by Lenin & co, that wants to spread the “salvation “ of communism to the rest of Europe, under Russian leadership.There is no doubt that had the Soviets conquered the Polish in 1920, the communist would have continued onwards to Berlin & Vienna to support a communist revolution.I really do believe that it was the same intention Stalin had. Germans had a superior army in ww2,they invaded all Europe?
Disagree and Agree At the start of the war Germany did not have a navy (aside a few uboats, however their navy building operation wasn't planned to be finished until 1948) and Britain had a very strong one, I don't see how Germany could had gotten to Britain. HOWEVER if Germany never declare war on the USSR I do not see how the US/Britain could had beaten it - the German troops where NOT tired of war, they beat all of Poland in 12weeks and were able to take the Dutch and Belgians in 6 weeks (then they just skipped over French defenses and took Paris). At that time Britain and retreated and left France to its fate. During the war the German military numbered around 1.5m served I can not see how the US/Britain could can pushed their war unto mainland Europe without Soviet help. Of course when we got the A bomb it may had turned the tables, however it is a fact German scientists also had plans for a Atomic weapon, and if we had used our bomb on them rather then the Japanese god knows how the world would be today. (for example if we used it on them and they had a similar weapon they may would have hit Britain)

Im British, and i have to say, that if Hitler hadn't attacked Russia, then yes, i do think he would have invaded Britain, Britain was on the Brink of invasion for a wile and was barley holding out, im sure that if Hitler hadn't attacked Russia, he could have concentrated his full force on Britain and taken over Britain. After he had taken Britain, he wouldn't have any more hostile enemy's in Europe, so i think he would stop their and build up his army for the Attack on Russia and wait next year so he has more time before the Russian winter closes in, not only will he have more time, he would have more troops and more resources! Hitler wasn't interested in Owning all of Europe, he only wanted "Living space" in the east of Germany, which is why he invaded Poland and attacker Russian, because they are in the east, he wanted this "Living space" so that there was more room for the "Master race". Had Hitler waited, a year or so before he attacked Russian, he would have Invaded Britain, helped Mussolini out in Africa, taken Egypt from the British, gained access to the oil, he then would have more resources, more troops, more time to build a bigger army, and he would have had a few more months before the russian winter closed in then he didn't when he invaded. When the russian winter arrived, Tanks, plains, soldiers all froze. I should add, if Hitler didnt attack Russia, then Hitler wouldnthave declared war on the US, the only reason he did so was in hope the Japanese would attack Russia from the east, causing russia to fight a 2 front war, but the Japanese didnt attack russia from the east. So Hitler wouldnt of gone to war with the US if he wasnt attack Russia. This is my opinion anyways =)
