Who Is Better Usb Hdd

What is better, HARD DRIVE or FLASH DRIVE?

really depends how much data you want to store. flash drives are quicker but in the higher memory end they tend to cost more per gb then hard drives. and if you want to go over 300gb a hard drive is the way to go as flash drives only store up to 256gb currently (costs around AU$500 off ebay) for smaller memory sizes of under about 100gb flash drives would be the way to go. hope i could help

What's better to use USB stick or External Hard Drive?

My family is trying to clean out our computer so we can have more memory (RAM) and i wanted to know where could we save our music/photos/videos. Whats better to buy on a USB stick or External Hard Drive? Anyone have a idea?

This computer is HP Desktop Compute Windows Vista from 2008 started with 289GB and now has 127GB and is being used by 4 family members. And we have over 1,0000 songs, and family photos, and i like to make videos useing windows movie maker.

External hard drive or usb flash drive?

It depends on how much free hard drive space you have. If your hard drive has less then 20% free space, then I would invest in an external hard drive or even burn them to CD or DVD too. When your hard drive becomes low on space your system will run slower due to the fact that there is not much space available for the windows swap file (an area of your hard drive that windows uses to swap out data and applications). If you have plenty of free hard drive space, then I would look at investing in adding additional memory. If you do decide to move your pictures to an external source, I would not rely on a flash drive, as they are not reliable and have a short life span. Whatever media you choose to store your pictures on, do back them up also, just in case of a failure of the storage media.

Which is the best External Hard drive?

In most cases you won't notice a difference in quality between brands. I tend to use WD because they are the cheapest.

If you need fast access speeds though, you may want to pay a bit extra and get a 7200RPM or more drive. I don't usually bother though as the normal drives are plenty fast enough for my purposes.

I don't care about reliability because I use Time Machine to back everything up (no chance of significant data loss) and HD space is cheap as chips these days so, if one dies, I'll just buy a new one. None have so far though (except for the one my wife dropped) :-(

External usb hard drive (usb powered) vs external usb hard drive (ac powered)?

usually usb powered external hard drives are 2.5" hard drives
and ac powered hard drives are 3.5"

to figure out which is better you have to look at a number of things
-cache size
-rpms
-and the actual formated size of the drive( how many Gigabytes
higher is better

3.5" drives are usually have a cheaper price to size ratio
also have larger capacities

2.5" drives are portable if you plan on travelling with it
and as you mentioned no need for external power source

either one is good but if you need to save space on your desk or need to travel with it than a usb powered external hard drive is best.

Which is the best 2tb external hard disk?

WD produces the best external hard drives, considering its price a good value for money. Western Digital would always be known for their hard drives and portable storagesWestern Digital My Passport UltraFeatures  Ultra-fast transfer rates – if you have a USB 3.0 port on your laptop or PC, you could enjoy the blazing speed (three times faster compared to USB 2.0 port), the WD My Passport Ultra can offer. But factors such as your hardware and system configuration of course could affect its performance.Automatic continuous back-up software – WD My Passport Ultra comes with WD SmartWare Pro (I think you need to pay for this software). You could choose from instant backup or scheduled backup for your files.  Local and cloud backup – the WD SmartWare Pro lets you choose whether you will use your My Passport Ultra, or the Dropbox storage (needs a Dropbox account).  Works great with Windows 8 – I don't have a Windows 8 PC or laptop but it makes it easy to discover the digital media stored on your My Passport Ultra drive with your Windows 8 computer. Your content is automatically displayed and organized so you can easily locate and enjoy your photos, videos, and music.  Ultra sleek design with high capacity – At 12.8 mm, this portable storage device is one device you could bring anywhere, and it's four times larger the capacity of my laptop's hard drive. USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 compatibility – With a USB 3.0 port you can enjoy the full speed the My Passport Ultra, and yes, it is backward compatible with USB 2.0 ports so no worries for users who still have this ports, including me.  WD Security Software – with this software that comes with this device, you can set up a password and encrypt hardware so that no one wthout your permission could access it.Here you can check the price and find more info: Best External Hard Drives 2017External Hard Drives

USB vs MicroSD - Which is faster and more reliable?

USB is not a storage type, it's just a way of transferring it. Sure, it does limit the speed, but nowadays no storage method is as fast as USB 3.1 so the speed is limited by the storage itself. MicroSD cards use Flash storage, and the regular USB keys which you probably see being used everywhere, also use Flash storage. So theorically their speeds should be exual. However, it depends on the SD card and on the USB stick. SD cards havd classes from 2 to 10, 2 being the slowest and 10 the fastest. There is also SSD storage (not to confuse with SD) which is faster than Flash. SSD drives are much bigger, something like a smartphone in size, and they're usuay put inside laptops or connected externally with a (usually short) USB cable.TL;DR each USB device or SD card has different speed

What causes a computer to recognize some ext. drives with USB but not others. The old comp recognizes drives that the new machine won't.?

some usb devices are old and need More power(in fact some need a usb splitter to provide power from TWO ports, and ports are in pairs so that may mean one from each of two pairs whilst the other one of each pair has nothing connected). most laptops these days have several usb ports, some are high power some are low power. maybe you need to be a bit more careful what devices are plugged into what ports. Thus an external device might NOT START cos it aint getting enough amps.

Which one of these 3 will last longer: an external hard disk, a USB flash/pen drive, or a micro SD card?

Micro SD card and USB drive use SSD-Flash memory chips while external hard disk uses magnetic disk. Both the storage options are non-volatile meaning they retain the data even if the power is turned off.Flash memories have certain limitations on the number of times you can write on them, while magnetic disk has no such limitations.Flash memories have no movable parts and so even if you drop them from any non-physical damaging height even 1000 times they work perfectly, whereas magnetic disk has many moving parts and even a drop from 1 feet while will damage it and may and can render the disk useless.Flash memories are not affected by any electro-magnetic waves as logic devices store the data, while magnetic disk gets damaged by them. So if you store both of them near a speaker/woofer, the latter has a much better to get corrupted. (Happened to me twice.)Both the storages are susceptible to electric pulses in their connection. While magnetic disk do have a small chip that gets damaged (and can be replaced), flash memories will be burnt. So in all this is the order of their longevity in two scenarios of usage (1 being the longest)Used as backup of continuously changing data under safety conditionsExternal hard-driveUSB flash drive & SD cardsUsed just to fill data once and retrieve it many times under safety conditionsUSB flash drive & SD cards & External hard-drive
