Who Is Diana Nyad Answer

Supporting Diana Nyad and her endurance swim from to Cuba to Florida?

HAVANA — American Diana Nyad endured several jellyfish stings as the 62-year-old endurance athlete sought to become the first person to swim unaided from Cuba to Florida without a wetsuit or a shark cage. A team member posted on Nyad's Twitter account that the American was steadily stroking onward early Sunday despite jellyfish stings to the lips, feet and legs. Her goal: to become the first person to set a record 103-mile (166-kilometer) unaided crossing of the Florida Straits.
Good luck Diana ! Record holder and Swimmer from one of your best fans.

Was Diana Nyad's successful swim from Cuba to Florida truly non-stop?

It wasn't nonstop, but she never got out of the water. She would pause from time to time, treading water or floating on her back. She did have some critical moments where she was having trouble breathing. She has a history of asthma attacks. At one point a doctor jumped into the water next to her and listened to her heard, gave her oxygen and and gave her a hit off an asthma inhaler. She also had a sore shoulder. They had a mix of vitamin waters and things that they would feed to her on a regular basis.

CNN had a great show last night where they followed the entire swim. There were about 25 people in different boats around her at all times. You might find the video in the CNN web site or they might repeat it. What was interesting was that the boats at night couldn't use their lights because they might attract sharks. As it was there were shark spotters in the water near her constantly.

What does the exercise high from a swim like Diana Nyad's Cuba-to-Florida swim feel like?

Well, I've never swam that far or in those kind of conditions, but from doing 7 Ironmans and numerous marathons...I can say the 'exercise high', aka endorphin kick, seems to taper off as you really push yourself closer to the limit. If I do a nice hard training run <13mi, I feel absolutely great immediately after. After each IM I finished, I was pretty well spent and borderline disoriented. I was always well trained, but not to the point where the distance was trivial.I can only imaging the Cuba-Florida swim that Diana did was all about perseverance, focus, etc. The cold water, currents, jellyfish, etc. all add to the mental stress. I doubt she had the typical exercise high just after, although the magnitude of her accomplishment probably gave her something to perk up about.

How did Diana Nyad manage to swim from Bimini to Florida, setting a distance record for non-stop swimming without a wetsuit that still stands as of 2018?

Oh my word. Can o’worms.Marathon swimming in general doesn’t yet have a seriously accepted governing body (though there is a loose organization trying to establish itself as one).By the standards of, say, swimming the English Channel or the Catalina Channel, Nyad’s swim doesn’t have an independent observer or the level of documentation these established swims have. So… the only real answer is:We don’t know.

Should Oprah apologize to atheists after her Diana Nyad interview?

It seems to me you have two questions in one here. Does she owe Atheists an apology? No, she doesn't. People don't have the right to not be offended. Oprah was on her own show, on her own network and stating her own personal views and opinions. Now, as for should Oprah apologise? Well - if she wants any respect from her Atheists fans and viewers, of course, but I doubt she's too bothered. As I understand it, she hasn't shown much respect for Science before now, and if she doesn't mean or understand the apology, she definitely should not. Personally, I don't get why this is a big deal. I think we would be wrong to try to suppress open discussion about the topic (even if it does risk some rather ignorant or naive comments). I think explorative questioning and discussion should be encouraged for sensitive topics like Religion and Gods because that's how we communicate, share ideas and learn. We shouldn't make it taboo. Honestly I'm surprised that Atheists are being so thin-skinned over this. But that's just my opinion.

Why did Diana Nyad not use shark cage when she broke the world record swimming from Cube to Florida?

Because you cannot swim forward inside a cage. That simple.

What is the shortest (useful and correct) Quora answer?

Greg Morrisett's answer to Harvard University: Who will teach computer science 51 during the 2014-2015 academic year?

Are women better long-distance swimmers?

I think that it seems that more women are attempting these long-ocean swims. When you look at competitive swimming that the longest race is a mile, the boys with way out swim the girls. I just think that long distance ocean swimming doesn't have a lot of people doing it so the data is limited. If it every becomes more popular you will be able to see better if there is a difference.
And the BFI thing I would also say that would be an equal because girls and guys can be physically the same to some degree.
Someone said that girls have a higher pain tolerance than guy which I'm just going to say is bias and like elementary school stuff. Pain tolerance is all mental and how you react and teach yourself to push through the pain for the greater reward on the other side.
Hope this helps!
