Who Is The Head Of The Protestent Curch

Who is the head of the Protestant church ?

Protestant is a general term that refers to a host of denominations that have disassociated themselves from Roman Catholicism and its claim to be the only true church with direct descent from the Apostles, Peter in particular.
The Bible makes it clear the only head of the Church is Jesus Christ.

"But you are not to be called 'Rabbi,' for you have only one Master and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor are you to be called 'teacher,' for you have one Teacher, the Christ. The greatest among you will be your servant."

Matthew 23:8-11

Of course Catholics address their priests by the title "Father", and the word Pope means literally "Father".

Who's the leader of the Protestant Church?

Each denomination has it's own hierarchy. So, in the Anglican church is would be the ArchBishop of Canterbury. In the LCMS branch of Lutheranism we have a synod president. Other denominations have similar things. Others have no real leadership. But, none of them have anything like the Pope, who is thought to be infallible and the only one with a direct line to God.

Who is the head of the Protestants?

Protestant, I.e. those churches who were protesting, Rome’s rejection of the Augustinian Councils of Carthage, Ephesus and Second Orange? Well that would be the same for any church that is of the one true faith, and that would be Jesus Christ. However, if you are asking which man in any protestant church has taken on the position and authority of the Bishop of Rome, otherwise known as Pope, well the answer to that question would be only one, and that would be the Archbishop of Canterbury. However historically no one Bishop ever laid claim to being the one true head of the Church. In fact, the ancient father’s used to warn the Pope’s all the time, to not forget their position, as merely the greatest of equals, which meant they could ask other Bishops to go investigate another bishop for heresy, if it were requested. They could also ask for church councils and their ratification of a Church council was considered necessary to go through the approval process of obtaining the majority of Bishops worldwide. In Antiquity there were two other Bishops that held the title of greatest of equals , they were Antioch (from the very beginning and later Constantinople, which by the way still retains the title.

What role did Henry VIII appoint himself in the Protestant church?

Henry VIII's 1536 Act of Supremacy made him the head of the Angican church.

Henry VIII became the supreme spiritual authority of Anglicans, the way that the Pope is the supreme spiritual authority for Catholics.

It is because the King of England is the supreme spiritual authority that King James was able to 'authorise' a translation of the Bible in 1611 (ordinarily only God can 'authorise' a Bible).

Protestants who acknowledge the King James Authorised Version accept the King of England as God's representative on earth.

(Very few of them realise that).

....

Henry did not appoint himself 'Defender of the Faith'. Pope Leo X conferred that title on Henry in 1521, in recognition of Henry's continuing persecution of European Protestants.

Is the protestant church unbiblical.?

Here are a few examples.

In Acts whole housholds were baptised and history shows infant baptism, why are protestants being anti-biblical.

Jesus eat my flesh and drink my blood and let all his followers leave him because they couldnt take the literal interpretation - Why do protestants twist the bible to pretend he didnt say this.

Jesus gave the apostles to forgive or keep sins of people - why do protestants not accept this biblical teaching.

Why do protestants worship the heads of their denominations and flock in addoration to them when worship is due to God alone.

Why do protestants ask Pastors, ministers etc to pray for them and intercede to god for them when they could go to god alone.

Why do they use man made concordances to follow the teachings of MEN as applied to the the Holy Bible.

Why do protestants not look at the history of the church to see how far their reality is from the early church - using history not hate filled workshops

Does the protestant church have a head similar to the pope of Rome?

First of all, the head of the Christian church, whether Catholic, Protestant, or Orthodox, is the Christ, Jesus. But many communions of Christians - churches - have a head of communion, a presiding bishop, a patriarch, or some other chief officer. For Catholics, this is the pope. There is no “Protestant Church”. There are many “Protestant” churches and communities. The closest that would be a sort of spokesperson for most of them would be the Secretary General of the World Council of Churches, but that’s a bit like asking if other countries have a president like the U.S. and responding with the Secretary General of the U.N.The Anglican Communion has the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Orthodox Church has the Patriarch of Constantinople, and the Mormons have their president, and these are most similar, but still quite different in application. There is a president of the World Methodist Council, a president of the World Communion of Reformed Churches, a presiding bishop of the Lutheran World Federation, a secretary general of the World Evangelical Alliance, etc. So these would in some ways be parallel - global spokespersons for a movement or denomination - but again significant differences in authority. Most congregational, Pentecostal, and nondenominational churches have no such authority structure. A friend in one protestant church told me the most authoritative people in their denomination were the seminary presidents and the denominational magazine editors!

What is the difference between Protestants and the Church of England?

I beg to differ from the previous reply and as an Ordained Priest in the Church of England I know whom I serve and who I am. The Church of England is a part of the Holy Catholic Church and declares itself as such in its creeds. It did not come out of the Protestant reformation but evolved through Henry VIII from the Roman Catholic Church. Henry became Defender of the Faith and denied the right of the Pope to hold sway in his realm. Within the Church of England we vary greatly from Churches whose vicars style themselves Father and carry out their ministry in an outdated imitation of Roman Catholicism; they have confessions and wear expensive robes but clad themselves in black through the week. They venerate Mary. Through various dilutions we arrive at the other end of the spectrum with Evangelical Clergy who style themselves as Ministers and follow the Evangelical path which branches out into Pentecostal style worship. It is certainly true to say that in this variance we can see the deliberate provision of a wide spectrum of care for all. That is what the Church of England sets out to provide.Protestants are, by definition, those who are engaged in protest against Rome. The Church of England is not, and seeks to work with the Roman Catholic Church along with other Christian denominations towards ecumenical work and ministry. In Liverpool where I worked for many years you will find a small but vocal number of Protestants who steadfastly set themselves against the papacy and anyone who seeks to recognise their legitimacy. They paraded outside the Anglican Cathedral when the Pope visited in 1982 and they paraded when women were ordained into the Anglican priesthood. They are not a part of us and we are not a part of them.

Who was the first head of the church?

Christ is the head of the church. Christ said to Peter, "You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church." Everyone says that Peter is the head of the church, because Peter's name means "rock," however, there are two different words for "rock," and Peter actually means "pebble" whereas the rock that Jesus was speaking of meant "giant bolder" i.e. the mountains that He was standing right beside when He was talking to Peter about this. So... if it is translated CORRECTLY, then Jesus says to Peter, "And I tell you you are Little Pebble, and upon this Great Bolder I will build my church." Other biblical passages (such as in Ephesians and Colossians) confirm that Jesus is the head of the church.
