Who was the original singer of the 50's song Runaround Sue?

Dion.

It was co-written by Ernie Maresca, and was a hit in 1961.

Not his normal band, the Belmonts here - it was The Del Satins who backed him up.

In the liner notes of Dion's box set King Of The New York Streets, he wrote:

"It came about by partying in a schoolyard. We were jamming, hitting tops of boxes. I gave everyone parts like the horn parts we'd hear in the Apollo Theater and it became a jam that we kept up for 45 minutes. I came up with all kinds of stuff. But when I actually wrote the song and brought it into the studio to record it, well, her name wasn't actually Sue. It was about, you know, some girl who loved to be worshipped but as soon as you want a commitment and express your love for her, she's gone. So the song was a reaction to that kind of woman."

Who is the original singer to umbrella?

"Umbrella" was not originally written for Rihanna. Christopher "Tricky" Stewart composed the song in 2007, with American pop singer Britney Spears in mind. Her label rejected the song, claiming to have a suitable amount of songs to work with for her future album Blackout, while also Spears having professional difficulties at the time.[7]

Who is the original singer of the song "Sweet Dreams"?

There are two songs that immediately spring to mind. One being “Sweet Dreams (are made of this)” written and recorded by The Eurythmics in 1983.Obviously the title does not match precisely. The only song I can think of with a title of just “Sweet Dreams” would be the one originally written and recorded by Don Gibson (1955).It was also recorded by Faron Young in 1956,but the seminal version is considered to be Patsy Cline’s 1963 version. It has been covered by several others since including Emmylou Harris,Reba McEntire,Tammy Wynette, and even Elvis Costello & The Attractions

Who is the original singer of this love has taken it's toll on me?

Im pretty sure the Original was FOREIGNER on their 1978 album "DOUBLE VISION"

Some girls you meet seem so complete
Like they don't need nothin' from you
They're out to show you they don't want to know you
When deep inside they do

Well, this girl didn't want me or anyone else
She was alone, thought I'd give it a try
I was a young bull stompin' in the field
I saw red when she walked by

Love has taken its toll, love has
Love has taken, taken its toll, oh yeah

I had to think fast, I watched her walk past
I knew I would have my way
So I swaggered up, I mean I staggered up
But I didn't have a damn thing to say

Now, two handed strategy always works well for me
So I slipped my hands around her waist
I swore it was the right move, feelin' so smooth
Till she backhanded me 'cross my face

Love has taken its toll, love has
Love has taken, taken its toll, oh yeah

To make a long story short, she finally got caught
I had to tell her enough is enough
She said, "You're just what I needed", and boy
She nearly pleaded with me not to be too rough

Love has taken its toll, love has
Love has taken, taken its toll, oh yeah

Love has taken, taken its toll, love has
Love has taken, taken its toll, oh yeah

Love has taken, taken its toll, love has
Love has taken, taken its toll, oh yeah

Who is the original singer of the song the rose sung by bette midler?

This was written by Los Angeles singer/songwriter Amanda McBroom. Midler recorded it for the 1980 movie of the same name, which she starred in.
McBroom: "A song came on the radio. It was "Magdalena" by Danny OKeefe, sung by Leo Sayer. I liked it immediately. My favorite line was, 'You're love is like a razor. My heart is just a scar.' I thought, 'Ooh, I love that lyric, but don't agree with the sentiment that love is a razor.' As I continued to drive down the road the thought came, "What, then, do I think love is." Suddenly, it was as if someone had opened a window in the top of my head. Words came pouring in. I had to keep reciting them to myself as I drove faster and faster towards home, so I wouldnt forget them. I screeched into my driveway, ran into the house, past various bewildered dogs and cats and husbands, and sat down at the piano. Ten minutes later, The Rose was there. A year or so later, a professional songwriter friend of mine said, 'Listen, there is this movie coming out called The Rose, based on the life of Janis Joplin. They are looking for a title tune. Do you want me to submit this to them? I had never really tried to submit a song to anyone. I didn't consider myself a songwriter at the time. So I said, 'Sure.' The producers hated it. They thought it was dull and not Rock And Roll and totally wrong. They put it in the reject box. But Paul Rothchild, who had been Janis Joplin's producer, and now the music supervisor on the film, hauled it out and asked them to reconsider. They again said no. So he mailed it to Bette Midler, the star of the movie. She liked it, lobbied in favor of it; and that's how it got into the film and changed my life forever."

Who is the original creator and the singer for the song "Hallelujah"?

Leonard Cohen. And he wrote about ten other verses for it which he would sometimes switch out at various concerts. He died last November. He was a very respected poet/songwriter and he sang also (tongue in cheek). He was a tenor back in the sixties but his voice dropped to a very solid bass in his final years. Go Youtube and listen to a few of his renditions. My favorite is “Jazz Police”.

Who was the originaly singer/songwriter of Delta Dawn?

"Delta Dawn" was a song written by former child rockabilly star Larry Collins and songwriter Alex Harvey, and recorded by a number of artists, most notably Helen Reddy and Tanya Tucker. Tucker's version went to number 6 on the country music charts, and Reddy's topped the Billboard charts. Included on Tucker's first album, the song was released as a single, and it became the thirteen-year old's first hit. Reddy cut the song shortly after Tucker's version became a hit, and her version became the seventh-highest selling single for the year 1973 on the pop charts, hitting number one on the week ending September 15.

Sa-a-a-d movies always make me cry

He said he had to work so I went to the show alone
They turned down the lights and turned the projector on
And just as the news of the world started to begin
I saw my darlin' and my best friend walk in

Though I was sittin' there they didn't see
And so they sat right down in front of me
When he kissed her lips I almost died
And in the middle of the color cartoon I started to cry.

Oh-oh-oh sa-a-a-d movies always make me cry
Oh-oh-oh sa-a-a-d movies always make me cry

And so I got up and slowly walked on home
And mama saw the tears and said “what's wrong?”
And so to keep from telling her a lie
I just said “sa-a-a-d movies make me cry”

Oh-oh-oh sa-a-a-d movies always make me cry
Oh-oh-oh sa-a-a-d movies always make me cry

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Sa-a-a-d movies make me cry-y-y
