How do I know if these genes are linked?

To tell if genes are linked by simply looking at progeny, you have to examine whether or not the observed ratios differ from what is expected to that of independent assortment. As autosomal UNLINKED genes with simple dominance relationships via 2 alleles @ 1 locus, depending on the cross, each gene should show basic mendelian inheritance.
For example, lets say 2 flies are crossed that are heterozygous at each locus for each given gene. Set up a punnett square for each gene and you should notice the 1:2:1 genotype and 3:1 phenotype ratio. You can multiply across each locus(and therefor punnett square) to determine the fraction of progeny that should show that combination of genotypes. So if the above said cross was done, you should observe 3/4 gray 3/4 full wing and 3/4 red eyes - so a total fraction of 27/64 should show this combination of phenotype.

However, if G and A are linked, they should be observed in a ratio that deviates from this expected "non-linked" independently assorting ratio. Based on the parental cross, given linked genes, the parental class should *greatly* outnumber the recombinant class- where the alleles of body color and wing type are inherited together more often than expected.

It would be more helpful if you were to include the entire question you are referring to (including progeny count and parental crosses etc), then I can guide you further if needed.

How do you know when you’re in love?

You know you are in love when every time you start to think about the one you love, butterflies start flying in your stomach.

You know you are in love when you fine yourself shopping with that person and you feel like everything is right in the world.

You know you are in love when you can't stop touching that person.

You know you are in love when you feel miserable when you are away from that person.

You know you are in love when you start planning a future in your head.

You know you are in love when can't stop smiling every time you see that person.

I could go on with more examples. For me being in love is wonderful and yet painful. The man I love doesn't know that I do love him. He is my friend and for now that is all he wants because he is about to be deployed. Because I love him I am going to wait. Love is worth any pain and wait.
When you find yourself ignoring your own feelings and focusing on how someone else is feeling your in love. I find myself now looking at maps, tracing the distance between where he is and where I am. I now pray each and every night for him to come back safely to me.

Do insane people know they're insane?

Unfortunately they often do not. But those who do, live with terrible dread about their fate. This is why many choose to end their lives. Mental illness awareness and compassion for the illness continues to elude the public consciousness. It’s really no different from other diseases or illnesses, yet there remains a stigma that hinders those afflicted from getting the help they need. I hope to live long enough to see this pattern change. Life can be better for all if we supported one another rather than casting judgement. If you know someone with mental illness, try learning more, being open to hearing and understanding them, and, above all, treat them with patience and kindness.

Is it true that knowledge is like a drug? The more you know, the more you want to know, and the less happy you become?

I don’t think you become less happy, but you do become more select.I have been asked this question several times and I think it’s a matter of perspective.Human Behavior for example has been more than questionable for many many years. As people we do things that are Not right but hugely immoral. WE continuously contend with the shame and guilt of our forefathers and question where we are today. Have we progressed? Have we regressed? Have we always been the same? Is it just that in a media saturated world we are now more aware of human follies? Social guilt gets compounded with the the impotence to right our social wrongs and we are left defeated. All this plays a part in how we feel and can make us feel very isolated. So from this point of view yes, it can bring unhappiness. However, If you stop and look around you and see our species as a “Whole” … think about how long we have been on this earth vs just about any other species. You will see we are just fledglings still feeling our way around this life. WE are less then a geologic hiccup and even less then a cosmic blink. So by this standard we can look forward to a better world.“We are a young species, that shows much promise” Carl SaganThis quote has always made me smile and given me much hope.Namaste

Should a groomer let you know they r going to shave your dog before they do it?

I always look the dog over and let the owner know if I am going to have to shave the dog down or not before they leave. That way there are no surprises. I take a comb and ask the owner if they can get it down to the skin and through the coat.if not..the dog is getting shaved down (and charged more as well) I also take pictues just in case I have an owner who insists their dog was not matted and decides to make a big stink over it...I have proof that it was matted
.
If the dog was matted, then there was no choice for the groomer but to shave her down. I always have people bringing their dogs in, telling me that their dogs arent matted and they brush them everyday..sure, the top of the coat isnt matted, but down at the skin it is.
Dematting can be painful..especially if it is the whole dog that needs to be dematted. Any good groomer is not going to put a dog through the torture of dematting its whole body just because the owner wants the coat left long..these are the same owners that cannot keep the dog combed out at home and put the dog on a regular once a month grooming schedule in order to keep the dogs coat free of matts.
Don't be so quick to blame the groomer...in most cases it is the owners fault for not keeping the dog combed out properly and the groomer is just doing what is best and humane for the dog, or, it is a mis communication between owner and groomer.
