Who Should Be On The Radio For This Emergency Incident

Do you have an Emergency Plan?

Without sounding too dismal, it is beyond our imagination as to what human beings are capable of today. In the past, it was usually known as to what to expect in an emergency situation and most were prepared, materially and mentally, if that doesn't sound too contradictory..today is much different. This would certainly be true for some natural disasters, as they can usually be predicted ahead of time and allow people to act accordingly. The worst case scenario would undoubtedly be a nuclear disaster, where one would be better off at ground zero rather than to survive, albeit for short period of time. There would be little time to prepare and the chaos would rival the worst confusion in Hell, itself. The human mind would not be capable of handling such an incident, were it to unfold. I have seen this panic once before in my lifetime, and was astounded at the actions that humans commit in the moments that they believe will be their last. One can really only be prepared to die and be accepting of such a fact. Our Lord Jesus Christ tells us not to worry about the "future" for we know not what the future holds. There are no emergency plans for the soul. That is a lifelong drill.

What are 5 things you should do in an emergency?

Your question is very general. There are many kinds of emergencies, and the response to one may not be appropriate for a different one. In all my years, I have never been on two identical incidents.

First, remove yourself and others from eminent harm. If the emergency is a fire or chemical leak, evacuate the area.

Second, call for help. Stay on the line with the 911 personnel and give them as much information as possible. Be clear about the nature and location of the emergency.

Third, If there are injured people, render first aid.

Fourth, stay on or near the scene until professional help arrives. Direct them to the location of the incident, unless it is obvious.

After the incident is over, write down everything that you did or saw. If there is an investigation, your record will help you if called as a witness.

What all incidents took place during the emergency in India during Indra Gandhi's government?

On 25th of June 3AM major oppostion leader JP was taken under remand at unknown location.Morning of 25th June, Mrs Gandhi announced Emergency on radio and appealed people there isn't any issue of being panic.By evening all the other major opposition leaders were taken in remand.Police were given full power, and with no accountability, they can put anyone in jail at anytime. All the local RSS workers were jailed without any reasons.Jails were fully filled and absolutely no room, with no basic facilities being made available in them. There were no free media, everything went through censorship, hence there were no reporting of the crimes done by the police and government.Anyone who had earlier criticised government had to penalty. Example: Dev Anand’s movies were banned.Vasectomy programme, dream program of Sanjay Gandhi, was done blindly, in order to complete the tagert, authorities kidnapped males and even young and unmarried males were made impotent.21st march 1977, emergency was lifted, and Mrs Gandhi had to face huge defeat in Lok sabha election.

As an Emergency Manager / Incident Response Leader / EOC Commander, what would be the top 5 things you'd want to see on a dashboard monitoring the situation as it progresses?

Let's keep it straightforward and reference fundamental principles of National Incident Management System (NIMS) and ICS. Operations. Status of operation. Includes weather and environment and any urgent changes in conditions. Logistics. Availability and location of human and physical resources- on scene, in staging, downtime in base, en route with ETA. Planning. Plans, objectives and tasks for the upcoming operational period. Maps, charts and blueprints of the incident area as applicable. Access to Incident Action Plan and completed and fillable ICS 200-series forms.Communications. Access to text, photo/video, voice (emergency radio) and external online information regarding the incident. Useful to operations, information officer and IC. I think that about covers it.

What is the best incident logging software for emergency response?

Great questions with so many possible answers! - Disclaimer I work for D4H ;-)The outcome of your incident, crisis, or emergency is often determined by the capability of those who respond.  Making good decisions requires up to date information; and information has never before been available in such quantity. Important to note that information is only as good as its source; and without managing it correctly, it rapidly loses quality and reliability over time. Communication channels become flooded, information is lost, and your facts quickly turn stale. In a pressurized situation, data will inevitably be shared inconsistently, resulting in a challenging situation when trying to analyze it. When so much is at risk, it’s critical to maintain a single source of truth. It is essential to make gathering structured information simple, to be selforganizing when moving fast, and for information to be held in such a way as to be intuitive when you need to use it for decision making. D4H  set out to entirely reimagine organizational information gathering and collaboration during a response. They set themselves the goal to be as simple and ubiquitous for data as a 2-way radio is for voice. D4H built a solution that keeps personnel in touch with the "right information when things go wrong". The result is a high quality information source, that knows the difference between your good information and your important information. A solution that combines your knowledge with automated feeds and processes to give you foresight, perspective, and better judgment. .............check it out here D4H™ LIVE - Real-Time Operations Platform

How do codes help in emergency situations?

You are probably referring to “10 codes” used in radio transmissions, such as the famous “10-4” to acknowledge receipt of a message. 10 codes are used to keep radio communications as brief as possible so that the radio frequency in use will remain open as much as possible. If an emergency worker calls in “10-57” instead of “hey, I think that I just heard a gun shot”, the frequency will be available for other transmissions sooner. This is especially important during a disaster when there is more radio traffic than usual. However, there are problems with using 10 codes. One is that they sometimes have different meanings in different jurisdictions. For example, “10-79″ refers to a dead body in some jurisdictions, but a bomb in some others.Second, a code used in a single jurisdiction may mean different things to members of different agencies within that jurisdiction. For example, “10-40” could mean scene secure to police, but for EMS it could refer to a non-emergency transport call.To prevent this confusion, attempts have been made to eliminate 10 codes entirely and use “clear speach communication” instead. But 10 codes are so deeply embedded in emergency service culture that these attempts have generally failed. So, the U. S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have promulgated a universal code system for all incident command called “1010 ICS”. You can read about that here:FEMA & DHS to mandate new national level 10-code useTime will tell whether agencies throughout the U. S. will abandon years of tradition and switch to 1010 ECS, but frankly, I have my doubts.

Pilots *Would you consider an alternator failure an emergency for a small aircraft in-flight?

The only alternator "failure" I have had was when my direct drive generator at the back of my engine on my old plane blew its seal in mid flight and started spraying oil. That was the bad part. The good part was the fact that I was only about 5 miles from the airport and after slowing the engine to almost idle, I was able to glide in and taxi off the runway without incident. I did not declare an emergency as at that point as I was on the CTAF (uncontrolled airport) and not on with ATC and I figured I had the airport made anyway. If there would have been anyone else in the pattern I would have insisted on landing first but that's about it. And as Dave has stated, boy did I have to get my wallet out. I figured it was time to switch to an alternator from a generator. After examining the whole mess, the plane lost less than a quart of oil.
As others have said, shut down everything you can get by without and land at the nearest airport. And, investing in a handheld radio for just such an occasion ain't a bad idea either.
