Fall Out Boy (mentioned above in a post) will not be in Times Square and will be in Hollywood, CA.

The Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift and Lionel Richie will ring in 2009 from Times Square on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve."

They will perform live during the ABC broadcast, joining Clark in New York along with his co-host Ryan Seacrest.

Kellie Pickler also will be on hand in Times Square with live reports on the festivities.

How safe is Times Square on New Year's Eve?

Very safe. There are over 5,000 uniformed officers, 500 undercover officers, and a 500 person Special Response unit on hand.Snipers will be on rooftops, garbage cans removed, manhole covers sealed shut and radiation detectors deployed. All spectators will be searched, required to get into their spot early and stay there. They will also not be allowed to bring in alcohol, large bags or backpacks.Of course that doesn’t guarantee that incidents could not happen but it is very unlikely and Times Square is one of the safest places on earth on New Years Eve.

Why do you go to Times Square on New Year's Eve?

It is terrible. Only tourists do this. And young New Yorkers may try this once if they don’t listen to reason by their friends.People start arriving around 5 pm for a midnight ball drop. I’m not sure what time the live entertainment starts. You are herded into pens by the NYPD. You have to stay where they put you for the entire time. If you leave the pen, you will not be permitted to return. You will be herded into a new pen if you plan to stay and will be separated from your friends. You can not block the sidewalks. There are no portable toilets. If you try to use a restaurant toilet, good luck. I doubt they will let you in—that is for their patrons and they can’t have thousands of people tramping in and out while they are serving diners. No alcohol is permitted. The event FAQ says to bring water to remain hydrated, but since you can’t urinate anywhere…I don’t see the attraction.i forgot to mention how you have no room or personal space as you will be squeezed on all sides by other revelers. Finally, at 1:00 a.m. You will be joining 1,000,000 people trying to get on the subway to return home. There are so many great places to have New Year’s Eve parties in NYC. Many will have the television turned on for the ball drop. There are also places to view fireworks.

How to survive New Year's Eve in Times Square?

My best friend and I are going to be in New York City from December 30th-January 4th...so naturally we want to experience New Year's Eve in Times Square. I've heard there are no bathrooms...but I'll just go ahead of time and be fine. Also I've heard you can't bring bags or purses...is this true? Because we wanted to bring food in our purses cause we heard there really isn't any food.

So anyone who has ever done New Year's Eve in Times Square...please let me in on some advice and what to expect and what to be prepared with. Thanks!

Going to Times Square for New Years Eve?

I'm going to be there also for the first time! There is no fee to go if you're just standing in the street, but you'll have to get there extremely early (like 2 p.m. or earlier). You should also know that there are no bathroom facilities, so try to get a spot near a place that has a bathroom, so you can go in and buy something and stand in line for the bathroom. I've heard that people actually wear adult diapers! Not my cup of tea. There are also parties in TS at Olive Garden and TGI Fridays (like $250-$300 pp, I believe). We are going to one of those. There is unlimited food and drink, and they let you outside for 15 minutes or so before the ball drops.

Is it worth going to times square for new years eve?

If you want to spend that day STANDING in the cold, then knock yourself out. Like other people said, New Yorkers don't bother to go because standing out in the cold isn't our idea of fun. If you're dead set on it, A) don't go alone. You won't be bothered ... probably, but it's just a good idea to have someone else with you, and B) yes, you will have to wait for like 12 hours to get a 'good' spot. And then it will take forever to get home.

Happy New Year.

Are folding chairs allowed in Times Square on New Year's Eve?

NO!

New York City times square ball drop new years eve?

That will probably be too late to get a "good spot" since you wont' get to Times Square until around 7. Usually people start lining up around 4-5.

What some friends of mine have done as an alternative (because no one likes standing in a cattle herd for 7 hours in the wintertime with no access to bathrooms) is buy a NYE ticket at one of the surrounding restaurants. They're a bit pricey, but well worth it for a night of food, drinks, and bathroom-access.

My friend has been to Olive Garden for NYE a few times now. $200 there got him unlimited top shelf bar, food, and when the ball dropped Olive Garden attendees got to stand out in a roped off area of Times Square to watch. It's also got a good view.
