Why Am I So Popular Here

Why is anime so popular in Japan?

It's pervasive but I wouldn't call it "popular".  Here's how it worksAnime (but mostly the written form, "Manga") is everywhere and not just in the form of comic books. It's used to explain how to sort your garbage, it's used to tell you not to harass people in trains, it's used to make a product more cute (kawaii). WHY?I could argue that the Japanese are masters of design and have learned that images convey meaning faster than text.I could take an art-historical perspective and say that it goes back to ukyo-e  wood block prints that became popular in the 16th century.  I could go logical and say people spend a LOT of times on trains and comics are an easy form of entertainmentI could go anthropological and say that it's because japanese think it's always been that way and are pretty in to the whole "I do this because everyone does this" mentality. That being said, let's talk about "popular". It's not, and you're not if you're really into it.I think this is the biggest shock for foreigners who go to Japan.  Anime is not cool.  Being an "otaku" is not cool, not even in the ironic sense.  Most people I knew in the US who were in to anime weren't exactly the popular kids (myself included) and assumed that going to japan everything would change.  Like, magically, you'd be in this world where everyone had the same interests and you'd have all these people to talk to who totally get you and think you're cool. That's. Not. How.  It. Works. The reality is that being into anime in Japan is just as frowned upon as being into anime anywhere else.  The major difference is that it IS everywhere so, if you want to get lost in anime, you totally can and a lot of people do (so maybe this is the popular part?) but, doing so is not something to aspire to, and not something that's well viewed by the majority of native Japanese, or foreign ex-pats.

Nursing? Why is it so popular?

I am curious to know why it is that everyone wants to go to college to take nursing and become a nurse? A lot of people my mom knows alot of people (at least three) who have kids or know relatives who they have sent to a college out of state to take nursing (because there is no waiting list in those states). In my state (California) there is at least a 2-year waiting list to get into that program, and there are alot of people I know at my college I go to who say they are just taking classes to stay on that waiting list for the nursing program. My question is why do so many people go into the nursing program and why is nursing so popular? Someone I know who is a nurse told me that hospitals are cutting back on nurses now because of the economy and because there are TOO MANY nurses, so it seems like it would be difficult and there would be a lot of competition for someone to get a job in that field once they complete the nursing program.
BTW I am NOT interested in nursing at all, nor do I want to take nursing. I am just wondering why everyone seems to want to go to school to do nursing? Is it because it is easy money or is it because it is some kind of FAD now or something? Why is it all of a sudden a flood of students who want to take nursing?

Why is karate so popular yet so lame ?

Karate is so popular because of the introductions it made on some movies during 1960's and 1970's, yet up to moment it is being existed as one of the respected arts traditionally.

But due to its popularity, it had been ruined by some mcdojo's that existed through their own personal interest and purposes, some put their own club and name it with co-existing words mentioning Karate, the techniques had been declined and quality of arts are not following the procedure of correct step by step teachings, exact methods and its applications.

Poor conduct and manner are the students that they can produce, which bringing the name of said art into wrong recognition, and this is the result of what you have seen, some of them had just been easily beat by some street fighters, so improper judgment bring this style into ridiculous insight, what you seen is a product of those Instructor who promoted things through their own personal pursuance.

Good luck

Why am I suddenly so popular with girls?

I asked this question back in September, but I'm still not sure what's up, so please help. All answers are greatly apreciated

I just moved and got to my new school, for some reason alot of girls seem interested in me. Back in my last school nobody really payed much attention to me, asside from my small group (there were 4 of us) of friends. I'm really shy, and I'm kind of a nerd. I don't really talk very much, but I am very friendly. I've never had a girlfriend or anything and so far I only know one guy at the school. Now, for some reason, girls seem attracted to me. I get complimented about my looks alot (I am not really good looking), girls are always trying to talk to me, alot of girls stare at me from across the room, and there's alot more that could go on this list, but you get the idea. Why are girls suddenly attracted to me? I'm an unathletic, unattractive, uncharming (is that a word?), unconfident, quiet, shy, nerd. I really want to know what's up with this! There has only been 1 other girl who has liked me like that in my life, and I didn't know that until the day I was moving (that was about 3 years ago). I haven't changed very much in the past 3 years, I've just gotten a bigger knack for computers, I became closer with my old friends, I got a little more shy, and that's about it. Do you think they just like the new blood in the small town, or just decided to mess with the new guy?

What're your thoughts on this? I'm not really mysterious. Just by talking to me for 5 minutes you can tell that I'm a really shy guy who knows quite a bit about computer coding. I'm really an open book if you can get me to talk to you.

My boyfriend's popular and I'm not?

Yeah, I guess it's kind of stupid to ask this question on here, but what do I do? He's one of those people that I guess is labled as "popular". And I'm not, you know, up there in the high standards yet. And since he's so "popular", it's been making me feel.. Both mad and insecure. The mad part comes from how he ALWAYS has his friends on our dates. It's always. It's mostly 80% of the time that he brings his 'boys'. But once in a great while, he'll have mabye one or two girls there, also. And I hate it. It makes it so awkward for me, because his friends are popular, too? And I'm not good at making new friends. And then he asks me why I'm so quiet and boring when we go on dates? I don't even bother to sit next to him at lunch, because he's surrounded by people. All the time. I've never seen him alone. Now, the insecure part is kind of a different story. The whole reason I get insecure is because he's always talking to girls. I'm not talking about "talking" to them, like a dating thing. Just chatting with them in the halls. He always has girls surrounding him, and always going to their parties and hang-outs and stuff, and I'm not invited, since I'm not 'popular?' So I get kind of worried / jealous. And it's not that I don't trust him, because I do. It's just that I don't trust those girls he hangs around with. Yes, I've talked to him about this, and he just tells me not to worry. "They're only friends", he tells me. But I'm making it sound like he's the total one to blame. It's not ALL his fault. I am the very jealous type, so I guess that could be it? I don't know what to do with him. He's too social. And I have tried to become friends with his friends, too. But I don't think they like me, because I'm shy.. What should I do? Should I tell him how I feel?

Why are tank tops not so popular among Indian women?

Tank tops are one of the greatest of the inventions. Period. They are optimal if you wear them during the scorching heat. I live in Delhi and its freaking 45 degrees here. I’m itching to wear a tank top. But I won’t.I stopped wearing tank tops 2 years ago. Reason:People stared at my breasts shamelessly. They undress you with their disgusting stare. Right from a 16 year old teenage boy to a 60 year old man.You cannot travel in a public transport wearing a tank top. Once I was sitting in a local bus, and a man was standing besides me with mobile in his hands. Yes, you guessed it right. He was recording my cleavage. He was caught. He was beaten. But still, it disgusts you to the core. He was a middle aged man, he was a married man.You get out of your house in a jolly mood to meet up with your friends and go to Chandni Chowk to savor all the delicacies. So far so good. Suddenly you’re being catcalled by some perverts. Because I was wearing a tank top, the strips of my bra were visible on my shoulder area. That was demeaning. My father didn’t like me wearing sleeveless dresses.Thousands of such incidents. Yes you should wear the outfits in which you are comfortable. But here, at least in Delhi, you have to pay a price for it.Message to all the perverts:How would you feel if your own mother or sister had to go through such an ordeal.
