Why Am I Still Scared Of The Dentist Even Though I Can Get Laugh Gas

Do you get laughing gas when you go to the dentist?

Yes, even for cleanings. I'm an anxious patient with sensitive teeth and inflamed, recessed gums; nitrous helps with the discomfort, calms me down, and makes the time in the chair go by much faster. Without it, it's a white-knuckle ordeal. Nitrous makes the experience much more tolerable for me and for the hygienist (since I'm not tense as a board, yelping in pain, etc.).Insurance doesn't cover it, but it's worth the extra $40–50. It wears off pretty fast (except the time they really cranked it up at my request and didn't leave me on oxygen long enough afterwards; then I sat on a bench outside and waited it out until I felt OK to drive).

Why do dentists use laughing gas?

Nitrogenous oxide is a safe and effective sedative agent that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose to help you relax. Nitrogenous oxide, sometimes called “laughing gas,” is one option your dentist may offer to help make you more comfortable during certain oral procedures.

What is laughing gas like at the dentist?

I am getting some teeth pulled and I am scared to death! They won't knock me out but want to give me laughing gas. Will it hurt? Will I know whats goinf on? Please help it scares me!

Do dentists still use laughing gas? please answer quickly!?

Yes many dentists use it. the main benefit is to relax a person and is mostly used along with a local anesthetic and makes the shot go much easier. However some people can get along and have fillings done using just the gas, especially if the cavities are small. She can try it and see what happens.

Getting a cavity filled without laughing gas?

Well i have had so many done without laughing gas and it never bothers me. Of course you will feel the shot in the gum but trust me it's worth it... You should take some aspirin before you have it done, since that will help relax you. You should be ok, trust me i love the dentist and i work in dental so i know first hand on this stuff... Most of the patients i see can't get the shot but then in the long run they bare off the pain... good luck sweetie...

Laughing Gas is scary for me. What should I do?

Sounds like you were given a little too much happy juice!
Can you try to go without it? Most dentists are trying to do away with Nitrous because of side effects and other obvious reasons.
If you are that nervous about going to the dentist, may I suggest asking for a prescription for a muscle relaxer, such as diazapam.
I'm sure that your dentist noted in your chart that you were incoherent for a few moments.
I'm sure if you do opt for the gas that he/she will not give you that much.
There should always be more oxygen than nitrous. Someone should be checking the levels as well.
Having work done on your teeth is not as bad as it may sound.
If I were in your shoes, I would try to do without. You can always ask for nitrous if you feel as though you can't deal any longer!!! :)
I wish you the best!

Can you control what you do when you take laughing gas at the dentist?

I have to go to the dentist tomorrow and I am terrified with pain, so I thought about taking laughing gas, but I don't want to say something and my mom finds out...can you controller yourself???

Is it cruel to deny laughing gas for a teen getting a tooth filled?

No, cruel would be not using local anesthetic to do your filling.Nitrous oxide is an adjunct used only if a patient truely has severe dental anxiety/fear/phobia.It does not replace local anesthetic.I am not just going to give you nitrous because you ask for it. There has to be a valid reason and I would have to assess whether it is a good idea or not.It is not something that is routinely used for filling in the majority of patients.I had teeth extracted at the age of 10 for orthodontic reasons. No nitrous oxide. Went back to school afterwards.Being a teen is irrelevant.
