Why Am I Waking Up Starving In The Middle Of The Night

Hungry in the middle of the night?

Ok......so, I have horrible morning sickness 24/7. I was only having it at night, and then it went to all night and all day. I couldnt even take a shower without becoming nauseated. I am still having problems with the nausea......but some of the vomitting has subsided. Not all of it, but I can eat at certain times now. So, here is my question. I am waking up in the middle of the night starving to death......seems to be one of the only times I can keep food down right now. Is it bad for me to be eating in the middle of the night? I know this causes more severe weight gain...... So, I was just wondering if anyone else experiences this. I would appreciate any answers. Also, I have a lot of problems eating early during the day. I find that I am never hungry before 1 or 2 pm....but then when I do eat it just makes me violently ill. What should I do?? Anyone else pregnant experience this?? I am due 1-02-09 with my fourth child!!

Waking up in the middle of the night hungry? 7 wks pregnant.?

Hey everyone! Since I've gotten pregnant I've really noticed a difference in my sleep pattern which I know is normal... But what I really can't understand is how I can eat a complete and fulfilling dinner, go to bed a few hours later, and wake up at about 3:30 - 4 am EVERY SINGLE MORNING and have the WORST hunger pains I've ever felt in my life! It's so hard to get back to sleep when I literally feel like I'm starving to death (even though I know that couldn't happen). The pains I get in my tummy are so intense that I almost feel as though I could throw up but I know there's nothing in my stomach which is why I must feel so famished! It really breaks up my night to have to get up and make something small to eat just to satisfy my hunger and it is becoming very annoying. Once my feet hit the floor I can't go back to sleep for an hour or more sometimes and I feel that it is ridiculous that I can't make it through the night anymore without eating!
Does this happen to anybody else and what do you do about it? Should i be eating different things for dinner to hold me over or is there nothing I can do? please HELP!!

Why do we get really hungry in the middle of the night?

There are probably a bunch of possibilities. For me, if my dinner was high in carbohydrates, I tend to wake up hungry. I have no idea why, but it happens any time I have that high carb meal. If I eat a dinner that is heavier in protein and fats, I have no night time hunger. The other reasons could be you are pregnant (I was always starving in the night when I was pregnant.) Another possibility is that you are working out a lot and not eating enough to sustain that. If you are weight lifting, you really need extra food. The last reason I can think of is that you are eating your last meal too early in the day. My kids used to eat a “last snack” right before bed so they wouldn’t wake up hungry. Needless to say, they both had amazing metabolisms.

Why do I wake up and binge eat in the middle of the night?

There’s not really enough details to say much, but 45kg is very low: if you’re about 150cm it’s on the low side of ok, but if you’re 160cm, 45kg is definitely less than healthy. So, my advise would be to A) eat more during dinner (I get you’re not hungry when going to bed, but clearly you’re hungry a few hours later!), and B) discuss this with a doctor to rule out any medical issues.Oh and of course: when you get up at 2am, don’t eat snacks and such, but something more healthy like a peanutbutter sandwhich (preferably wholegrain).

When I wake up I feel like I'm going to starve to death?

It's been happening lately, it doesn't matter if its early like 6 or like 10 in the morning but I always wake up with this extremely intense hunger like I haven't eaten in years. It hurts so bad and I feel really weak. Lol usually what I do is I eat what ever I can eat right away. Like maybe a yogurt or some fruit. So I can stall my hunger enough to make myself a nice, big, delicious breakfast. But sometimes a littles snack isn't enough or it only calms my hunger down for a bit. Like right now I made myself some eggs and bacon it took me around 25 min. Before I was done cooking I was already getting hungry again & I had a kinda big peach before hand. Oh and idk if my age matters, I'm 16 almost 17 c: . & im a girl. I've been getting hungry more often throughout the day too. I eat three times a day but I have at least a few snacks here and there you know. And I don't think its cus I'm over weight or anything cus some ppl say I'm skinny. I weigh like less than 100 pounds and I'm really short. Like idk if I'm eating the wrong foods or something, why is this happening to me???

Why do I feel so hungry after waking up?

There could be a couple reasons why. I’ll go through some of them.Note; I, too, feel hungry after I wake up so it’s not just you.You haven’t eaten in 12 hours. Assuming you only had dinner at 6 pm yesterday evening (or even at 7 or 8), it’s been nearly 12 hours since the last time you ate. This is also why a bunch of people I know eat more than 3 meals a day and in the middle of the night. You ate to little. This one climbs off the last one but is still a valid point. For example, if I only eat a pop tart for breakfast, then I’m going to be hungry within a couple hours because I’ve already digested it. BUT, if I go to Perkins and finish a “Tremendous Twelve” (3 eggs, 2 hash browns, 3 pieces of bacon, and 4 pancakes), then I won’t be hungry for hours. You sleep too much/too little. My brother does this too so I’m basically an expert on it. Anyways… My brother (on weekends) stays up until around 2 in the morning and then goes to sleep. Then the next day we all wake up and eat breakfast and by around 11–12ish, he FINALLY wakes up and begins eating lunch. Whenever he does this he is ALWAYS starving and asks for a ham sandwich, eggs, and the occasional pancakes. So yeah. I hoped this helps you. I don’t recommend anything I said above except maybe the midnight snack thing.-B C

Why do I keep waking up hungry?

Because you are eating a lot of simple carbs for dinner... pasta, white rice, potatoes, etc... I'm guessing here, but try mixing in complex carbs, Brown rice, Quinoa, Sweet potato, whole wheat, etc... If you already do that and still wake up hungry, try taking a casein protein shake before bed.Best ACwww.myfitness-first.com

No matter how much I eat right before bed I end up waking up so hungry it actually hurts; what can I do to diminish this pain?

I'm not a doctor nor a professional. I only share my experience:Some people genetically have faster metabolism. It means even if their thyroid and rest of body are performing well, they burn and digest foods faster. I'm one of them. When I'm at my minimum weight, my metabolism is rocket high. But when I'm fatter, I am more normal. When my metabolism is at high speed, I get severely hungry at the middle of the night. If I try to ignore it, my sugar drops and and I see sparkles of light inside my eyes. I know it's the time to get up and eat or I pass out. It's a pain in the butt to be forced to get up at 2-3 AM and look for food. So I, too have to eat sth before bed.I usually eat one meal at 7:00 AM, and one at 11. If I skip my 11 am meal, it's possible hunger keep me awake the whole night. Or I see those “sparkles”.When I exercise it's even worse. My body shifts into super-speed food consuming, like I eat a huge meal at noon and three hours later, not only I'm dizzy but my stomach is empty, and gurgling. If I ignore my stomach call for an out-of-time meal, my sugar loss process takes over.I should mention I'm mostly thin. I'm an thin-always-hungry. If you are a fat-always hungry, the story and remedy is all different. If you are a teenager, you are growing and it'll make your metabolism fast by itself.I personally found protein foods (meats and eggs) the most satisfying foods ever. They keep you satisfied for longer hours and it gives you real energy and you won't gain weight. So I keep some already-cooked protein foods in access (if I can), in case I need them at midnight or at 3 am, I can just grab them out of fridge and eat them fast. Though many times I have to settle only to cheese! Not very satisfying, but better than hunger and enough to put me to sleep.“Eating immediately before bed isn't a good idea”.This quote works for normal people. But for fast-metabolic people, staying hungry and struggling all night, is worse. So I personally just ignore the quotes! ;-)When your body needs food, it needs food. No logic or arguing will change you stomach’s mind! Cause it has it's own logic and beliefs! Lol

Why do I wake up really hungry when I eat a lot the night before ?

Various reasons. Most Americans tend to have a high carbohydrate intake. When you eat a lot of carbs, your insulin levels will follow the rise and start shunting the carbs to the liver or other regions for managing. We were not evolved with said megacarb intakes, so the process here is clumsy. You wind up with an eventual dip of blood sugar below normal by the time you wake up and that kicks in carb craving. Try this. Do strict protein for a night time binge and see if there's a difference in the morning. We handle protein with more of a steady state protocol instead of roller coaster like reactions. See if you don't notice a difference. Besides, night time heavy eating leads to obesity since your BMR (look it up) is lower then and you shunt calories over to depot fat.
